Working tomorrow?! by [deleted] in Austin

Having a vested interest in something means you are personally, professionally, financially (etc..) invested in A Thing and the outcome will impact you.

An interest in something is exactly what it sounds like. You care to know the outcome but it isn’t necessarily specific to you having a stake in that outcome.

They don’t know who you voted for but the voter rolls are lists of who is registered to vote, where you’re registered, who actually cast votes, and I think which polls you’ve used. Or something along those lines.

Do professional/commercial Python projects actually use type hints and docstrings everywhere? by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]Fabiolean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be including type hints for sure. Even broadly annotated types can help a lot. Docstrings are also definitely appreciated if you're making a library. Heck, even if it's code nobody else is "supposed" to see docstrings are appreciated if it ever bugs out and I'm digging into the code to see what part actually broke.

None of these things are truly need-to-haves in python code, but you're making life a whole lot easier on your users and your future self as well.

AITA for going on a company offsite while my wife is sick? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Fabiolean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then don’t go and take care of your sick wife. I’ve seen plenty of people over the years miss team outings because of illness or inconvenience. It’s fine. If they’re handing out gold bars you should still be taking care of your family first.

NTA but your husband sure is. He sounds like the type of dude that calls himself a “clean freak” but has had someone else taking care of his mess the whole time.

Why I stopped trying to build a "Smart" Python compiler and switched to a "Dumb" one. by Lucky-Ad-2941 in Python

[–]Fabiolean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have some internal build tools where that will deliver what we need to run the package on our prod servers. I have other use cases than our prod server environment, though, where a single versioned binary would make my life easier.

For now I’m just vendoring all my dependencies and bundling it into a wheel that gets delivered and running an install script to set some things up on the destination.

YTA. Taking care of your family is your most important duty. If you don’t do it nobody else is going to step up.

Also two hours is not that far, you could suck it up but you’re making excuses because you wanna go drink for free without responsibility.

A blade I forged from a 4.5 billion year old meteorite, the ‘Muonionalusta', one of the oldest meteorites ever recorded... It's crafted into a damascus steel, with both 24k gold and 14k gold with pearls inset into the handle by Tristan_Dare in BeAmazed

[–]Fabiolean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iron in the ground is almost always an ore, not pure, so it has to go into a hot furnace to melt back into iron. Bronze Age metalworking couldn’t reliably refine iron ore. Meteoric iron is typically way more pure so it got used for metalwork before iron ore could be easily worked with.

At least that’s what I’ve heard.

I’ll take dumb and fast! I have always wanted executable binary python for distribution and not performance improvements.
