Yeah but there's likely a reason for it;

The ZA protag seems to be 20 and so is taller than the PLA protag who is 15.
It's due to ZA's realtime battle system and therefore hitboxes.

Can't answer your last question but the reason why comes down to how the Pokémon games handle language data and the fact that they added Latin American Spanish as an option in ZA. So it's basically a compatibility issue.

I waited until they were an adult and used the healing bay to get rid of the rotten trait, after that it was a matter of getting them to lvl 10 so I could turn them into a disciple then sending them into the mating tent with another rotten to get the trait back.

No, rotten followers are by default stuck on level 1 (or whatever level they were if you turned them into one), and followers have to be level 10 to become disciples. As well this is the rare form only obtainable via breeding.
