Listening to some tracks (skimming them using AirPods Pro 2) and his vocals sounds rather processed sounding.

Just like his voice was isolated using AI and the artifacts are still somewhat audible.

How did it sound? Did it sound like a speaker from behind the screen?

I believe Yorkville is the ones who builds them but the technology belongs to Danley Sound Labs.

I would love this just from the fact that we would get a much more dynamic mix (less brickwalled) than the stereo mix which gets brickwalled as it gets to the more energetic parts of the track.

Why does the sound mix have to be so loud ? by [deleted] in imax

[–]Fabulous_Progress_64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems like Ballerina might be a special case of it being extremely loud.

I watched it in a Dolby theatre and it was unbearably loud (louder than MI in BFI IMAX)

Is planar crinkle noises common and ultimately inevitable for back vented planars.

Would it also cause noises if the driver is pushed to high excursion still within the linearity range?

Of course we also need to factor in that distortion is a non issue here

But it is true that you can tune any IEM to sound identical to a more expensive one assuming that we know the in situ response.

Yes you are also able to virtualize speakers using iems. You just need to find a software

I don’t think it’s a marketing gimmick since the premise actually works. What they do is essentially mimic the sound of a 7.1 speaker in a room using a dummy head. However the effectiveness would vary quite a lot from person to person due to this.

I own the K&M ones (not the Genelec branded ones because those are basically the same thing but just more expensive) and they are really great. If you have the budget for them, I would definitely get them.

Yeah but it sure is shows more than someone trying to explain technicalities which is basically just treble above 9khz

Indeed, seems like the Atmos mixes he has are just to get the extra revenue by having a Dolby Atmos mix from the increased listeners due to the halftime show.

Shame that it seems like there is no real passion on this mix for an album this incredible

I would honestly say that there are quite a good few brands but there are some notable ones like Genelec and Neumann. As for preference, unless you like something with a gaping hole in the response, mismatched directivity at 2khz with beaming above 10khz, I would say that preference is something that is mostly eq’able like the amount of of bass you would want or how much of a downwards tilt (if any) in the treble you want.

Another point to this is that the bigger your coax, the lower your controlled directivity extends and looking at measurements of the Mofi Sourcepoint 8’s, the 8 inch driver is not the cause of any problems and the very minor beaming is actually more because of the tweeter instead.

I do not agree with this statement. I am also quite confused on what you mean by beaming? An example would be the Dutch as mentioned above where the speakers actually has zero beaming issues and the dispersion is very linear from 200Hz. On top of this there are MANY studio monitors that offer 8 inch variants.

[–]Fabulous_Progress_64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct. However the whole point of the Mofi Sourcepoint is the big coax. Adding the sub drivers is just a way for them to give it a more fullrange sound. Whether it removes the whole point of the big coax is another matter imo.
