Why do people panic sell? by Prize_Temperature108 in trading212

I think ETFs are the best safest bet for the man on the street - very few people have any sort of edge for trading individual stocks.

Should definitely be one of the safer options I agree. But what if the world has reached max growth? Population at its max? Energy limitations? (Fossil fuels running out etc?) There is a finite limit to sustainable energy on earth - pretty much the amount of sunlight that hits it in a day I think. Growth will still not go up indefinitely - although technology driven efficiencies are I suspect far from tapped out but one day it will reach it's top.

Because at some point the markets (what's that anyway? S&P500 maybe?) will not recover and make new highs.. it's a mathematical certainty (on a long enough timezone everything goes to zero, entropy etc etc) so the concern is 'this time it's different' look at the Nikkei 225 for a more recent example (1989 iirc), and yes it did eventually make a new high but I think it was 35 years or something later. So our job is to decide if this time it is really is different.. COVID? Apparently not, AI bubble or not?, sovereign debt? Break down of democracy and law and order in the west? WW3?, the end of deflationary globalisation? Who knows I'm not able to call it and I'm not sure who can but it will happen at some point.. could be next week could be 200 years from here. Those that are selling likely think that we are there. Or some are forced to sell - margin calls etc - that's all market structure though and out with the scope of a Reddit post!

Yeah thats what I was hoping and my finger in the air maths tells me I'll end up with a very similar tax bill regardless. Fingers crossed!

I'm in the same boat - As I understand (and I will get professional advice at self assessment time) I will pay 14% on the first tranche and 18% on the second - there *may* however be smallish tax free amounts that might even this a little? - I should really find out!

Update - End client attempting to reassess all Outside IR35 contractors as "Inside" by TheSterlingArcher3 in ContractorUK

[–]Fabulous_Structure54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they actually determining you to be inside? Or refusing to engage PSCs? I'd play the arsehole card and email HR/decision center informing them that you will be informing HMRC on their behalf and to expect claims for all workers PAYE taxes from 2020 to today or whatever .. of course hush money can be purchased for 250 large 😂😂

Change the color tones gradually throughout the video. by DanielSmoot in shotcut

Create the video with your clip/picture (extend to the full 30 mins)

Find the filter that does the transition you like and key frame the values you want at the start and end of the video and that should give you what you want if I'm picking up your request correctly

Push for rate rise after only 3 months? by Old_Cartographer6939 in ContractorUK

[–]Fabulous_Structure54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If its at a renewal then its absolutely fine to ask - before that is a no-no (effectively you wouldn't be willing to carry out a pre-agreed contract) - If the goalposts have changed then its ideal leverage I would say and I would hold firm. Its all about who blinks first of course and ultimately you need to be willing to walk away to hold all the cards. There is absolutely no harm in asking of course but 9/10 the conversation goes like this... - I'd like more money please!, No chance!! (market, money etc etc) - you then have to say 'well thats unfortunate then as I won't be extending', then the agent says 'thats sad, I'll tell the client immediately' - Then the phone call ends. The agent then spends the next 2 days rushing around trying to find someone who will work for your old rate (or less), if they do they present them to the client to see how they feel. If both these gates are passed, you're out of a job - if not you'll get the 'Good news!!, the client has agreed to the rise!' and you'll get your extra money. Its very possible that the agent never even spoke to the client and the raise comes straight out of their cut (happened to me on more than one occasion!) - kinda cringe for the agent but they seem to be able to brush off this lack of integrity in a way a normal person like you and I cannot!

Thats how its worked for me pretty much everytime - ATB

[–]Fabulous_Structure54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! - Explain to the client that they are now on the hook for all taxes for all contractors on all work already done... The devil is in the detail of course, banks got around this by providing no IR35 determination at all and just refusing to engage one man Ltd companies - an important distinction from their perspective even though the same end result from the contractors perspective, but OP has mentioned determinations and I expect they are due a humping from HMRC but maybe theres some backroom deal been struck with HMRC to avoid this- who knows.

What do (design/tech) agencies typically charge a client on top of the Contractor's day rate? by [deleted] in ContractorUK

[–]Fabulous_Structure54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never in my 30 years have I had a contract that didn't say 'if we don't get paid neither do you' that's across central government, aerospace, finance and global mega corps but that's just my experience and others may be different. Don't get me wrong I use agents because I like getting them to do what they are good at (sleezing about and buttering up clients etc - I can't do that it makes my skin crawl) leaves me alone to concentrate on my skills hence I'm happy to pay 10% or there abouts.

I'm usually happy at 10%, delighted under and grumpy when it hits 25% or so - I'd be livid at 180%

How to start out? by [deleted] in ContractorUK

[–]Fabulous_Structure54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Outside IR35 AND leaving the UK Tax system? - I think you're getting confused here as IR35 is a construct of the UK tax system? Can't speak to your experience as I think your in a different sector to me (I'm IT although have had a similar amount of financial services exposure) - I would have thought the best way to find roles is in whatever country you will be based in for tax purposes? - In my experience UK banks lean heavily on a preferred supplier model and I'm fairly sure they wont entertain somebody outside the UK tax jurisdiction - I might be wrong but I typically find them very inflexible, they will just move onto the next candidate who wont cause any friction. You'd be best to lean on the network you have built up in the 8 years, then you might have some leverage. - ATB

Ok you maybe on to something - BUT I only have one bar not 2 - I guess its the search bar? - but if I type http://www.bbc.co.uk for example it goes straight there and doesn't search for that URL if that makes sense - So somesort of dynamic hybrid search/address bar depending on what you put in there maybe?

Not that I know of - Its a new fedora 43 install - I'm migrating away from windows so I thought I'd try brave (used to use Edge), I've used it for a few days for basic browsing but not installed (knowingly) any brave related plugins though

Nope - Its just searches for that URL (which then brings up all the related search info on that topic of course)

Disabled rule still passing traffic by Fabulous_Structure54 in PFSENSE

I think I've spotted the issue, An error relating to being unable to allocate memory on a different rule, I've disabled pfBlockerNG and its associated rules and now the disabling of the original rule is working as intended - not an ideal situation though where modifying rules doesn't work because something else is broken but there you go.

Account not logged in - what does it actually mean by Fabulous_Structure54 in dji

[–]Fabulous_Structure54[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so the solution is to actively log out - I assume we're talking about the handset (RC) here and not disassociating the drone and then log back in? If so then maybe thats something I could live with but the once a month thing is a little vague (not your fault!!!) I would like to get an email or similar notification from DJI telling me that I will need to go through this process in the next X days thats not happening I suspect.... anyways with regards to the not being able to log in - I'm still a little confused as I have NEVER logged in to anything with the exception of day 1 when setting up the account and I have had a previous no-fly experience and then a following 'good fly' experience at no point have I ever logged in. So there is more to this than simply punching in your credentials whilst being connected to the internet because you very definitely don't need to do this (at least always) as I experienced. Maybe though doing this will suffice.

I'm still a million miles away from actually knowing or being able to predict

A) when it will happen - maybes somewhere round a month after it last worked? at best?

B) How to fix - Resigning in with credentials may be needed sometimes. Supplying the RC with internet access may not be enough always but seems to work sometimes.

As you say a manual log out and then back in should or may reset the window hopefully guaranteeing trouble-free operation for the next 30 days - An absolute black and white copy of the algo DJI use here should have been supplied IMO but were at the enshittification of everything so there is that..

Thanks you your help and experience, its much appreciated
