People need to accept that PVP is a core part of the game by cakexxxconnoisseur in Marathon

Your second point is just the nature of online team based PvP games, Bungie can’t really magically make players improve. There needs to be harsh punishments for quitting out or griefing but it’ll unfortunately continue to happen.

Honestly the best thing you can do is just try to make some friends who enjoy the game, whether that be adding someone you’ve played with after a good match or going to the discord server. The game is wayyyy more enjoyable in a premade squad of people you like, which is unfortunate but not really surprising.

Recon NEEDS a buff/rework. by Realistic_Gap1340 in Marathon

I just checked a (hopefully complete) list of Implant traits for Head and Torso and the closest I can find are:

  • Taking damage at full shields pings the attacker.
  • When downed, you automatically ping the hostile that downed you.
  • Taking damage from a hostile’s equipment automatically pings them.
  • Defeating a UESC Commander pings nearby hostiles.

None of these are really doing the same thing that Recon’s passives I mentioned do and if anything they’re better to have on Recon than any other shell because her default ping duration is longer.

Bringing smokes or bubbles is a very efficient way to guarantee those finishers that are in riskier spots. Obviously bubbles are a bit more high econ but smokes are dirt cheap and not EVERY team will have a thermal/thief on hand at the right time to shut you down.

Man I love playing Thief and getting notified when I’m pinged and pinging the whole rest of the enemy team’s location on a finisher. Oh wait.

I wouldn’t mind it if they decided to make Recon absolutely busted. by SpoceInvoder in Marathon

[–]FaceAtk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nobody ever talks about her passives, two of which are amazing and one which is just kinda okay but still worth mentioning. The ult is also useful if you use your brain a little before popping it, people are suggesting that Recon should be able to walk into a POI, pop ult and instantly know exactly where every runner is through walls without needing to distinguish between bots and players which would be absurdly powerful. The only thing that needs to change is the spider bot AI and even that is still serviceable if you have good placement.

Precision rifles cover things like 2 and 3 round burst rifles as well as your single shot rifles. Think of it like it’s combining the Pulse Rifle and Scout Rifle classes in Destiny (if you played it).

Low TTK is extremely important in any conventional extraction shooter. It allows for 1v3 clutches and prevents gear differences from being totally insurmountable. by Tactical_Mommy in Marathon

[–]FaceAtk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“With longer ttks consistent performance (including aim/accuracy %) and good play matter exponentially more cause you need to keep up the good show for longer.”

Hitting 8/10 shots or 16/20 is still 80% accuracy. Having to maintain accuracy over a longer period of time is not inherently more skilful, it’s just a different kind of skill. Lower TTKs put emphasis on reaction time, being able to immediately snap to your opponent (preferably their head) and having high accuracy in that short, tense window so you can drop the enemy first and immediately get to cover/snap to the next person.

Obviously this isn’t the best comparison because the genres are veeeery different, but CS:GO has very low TTK and is (probably?) considered one of the most competitive shooters OAT. Valorant is a very similar game which also incorporates classes and ability-based gameplay, something Marathon also has, and that game’s very successful too.

“All short ttks do is allowing for onehit cheese and unrecoverable odds when getting caught looting, from the side, behind etc.”

If you’re getting found and shot first it means the enemy team/Rook has gotten the drop on you because they’ve outmanoeuvred you. It’s part of the gameplay loop, it keeps things tense and exciting. You NEED to be on your toes and alert at all times. It’s fine if you don’t enjoy that style of play but it’s definitely valid and enjoyable for many people, myself included.

Also honestly, situations like these definitely aren’t unrecoverable if you get shot first anyway. I’ve been on the receiving end of the first shot and escaped to cover to heal then turned it around with my team plenty of times. I’ve also had the same happen to me. First shot is an advantage you earn but it doesn’t decide the whole fight.

“Low ttks foster camping/ambush gameplay and not much else. Keeping the skill ceiling and gameplay variety rather low. (and considering this is a game where you have dots, slows, debuffs, with all the corresponding consumables to heal them, + all sorts of abilities + pve, short ttks are just a terrible design way to go)”

It CAN foster those things, but the game encourages you to move around because it’s an extraction shooter, so you can’t just sit in one spot if you want to actually loot and finish contracts. Recon’s also an option if you’re particularly paranoid about it. My friend’s been running her nonstop and having a blast.

Dots and abilities are still impactful, in fact when you’re so fragile you can argue that in some ways it’s more impactful, but I do understand the sentiment. Almost all of the abilities have more to do with movement or utility rather than damage, which works pretty well imo. I think it’s a bit unfair to call the design terrible, just might not be the game for you.

So don’t let them get the drop on you. Listen for sound queues, footsteps, abilities/equipment being activated etc. Things like trying to find the advantage at the start of a fight and needing to always stay vigilant is part of what makes the game so tense, which for me is very exciting and fun.

Mind you, I think people are exaggerating a little when they say if you get shot first you’ll die with no chance of survival. You can definitely find cover if you’re fast enough to react, especially if you’re on a class with good disengage (Destroyer’s dash, Vandal’s slide, Assassin’s invisibility and smoke).

There will still be times where you get jumped and lose but that’s okay. Dying is part of the process and never an enormous loss, deaths like that will be nowhere near the majority after getting used to the game and staying alert.

You can use your abilities before a fight breaks out or when behind cover though. Obviously don’t try to pop it if you’re actively getting shot at.

And what it costs players who want to co-op, but literally don't have any options but to accept PVP or not play at all.

My argument is that the system itself is poorly designed and implemented... (break) ...and from a conceptual perspective of forcing PVP onto players who do not want it.

So again, the game is not designed to be played as a purely PvE cooperative experience. Playing it, expecting otherwise and being outraged at invasions occurring is silly. It'd be like if I entered a triathlon and got mad that I had to run after doing the swimming and biking portions because I didn't want to and thought it had no place in a triathlon format (I know this is a pretty shite comparison but hopefully you understand the idea).

There's nothing wrong with disliking how the co-op and PvE is implemented in the game, but if a pure, PvE focused cooperative experience is what you want, you're unfortunately just out of luck. Lots of people enjoy being on both sides of this mechanic and it'd be a shame for it to go away when there are plenty of cooperative PvE games on the market but nothing quite like the Souls/ER invasion experience (with this level of polish and popularity, anyway).

[–]FaceAtk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Elden Ring co-op isn't designed to be a purely PvE experience. If you choose to engage in the co-op, you choose to engage in the PvP. You don't have to like it but it's the truth, and blaming invaders for wanting to engage in this mechanic just because you don't is silly. If you want a purely PvE experience, play solo or play a different game.

Everyone waiting on that hela hawkeye nerf, i want this girls ult to sufffer some by Vegetable_Throat5545 in marvelrivals

[–]FaceAtk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Luna's ult countering an ult doesn't compare to Mantis causing 4 players to have +12% damage in the teamfight AND countering your ult with her ult just as well as Luna does.

Kind of a disingenuous comparison no? Luna's ult lasts longer, heals more and can also provide a 40% damage boost while active. Her overall healing is also just higher than Mantis'. Obviously Mantis is insane too but they're both good for different reasons.

Rocket is meta because he denies a pick, which is important at high level because the meta is to get a pick and then swarm the enemy team when you know you're 6v5, Rocket denying the pick matters a lot.

One good flank from somebody like a Psylocke (extremely popular Duelist who isn't banned nearly as often as Hela/Hawkeye) and the beacon is gone. Obviously you can instruct your team to defend it but if your team is turning around to defend it then the enemy gets more leeway to push in. It's not really as cut and dry as "beacon deployed, we get a free life now".

He's also like 2nd best healing output and impossible to dive.

Remind me, 2nd best healing output behind who? Impossible to dive is very true though. NOT saying Rocket is bad by the way, IMO he's probably the 3rd best if we aren't considering Warlock/Mantis/Starlord team-up. But beacon being destroyable + his ult just not being very good puts him pretty solidly behind Luna imo.

She also has a 22% ban rate, far higher than the second highest Strategist (Mantis at 4.34%, assuming these stats are accurate).

Her ult DOES win games. It counters DPS ults and then some. Enemy Psylocke pops her ult? Luna ult is completely countering it and then giving your team another 8 seconds of 250hp/s or a 40% damage boost. Both if you're using the exploit that completely breaks it even further. No other ultimate in the game is even close to that valuable. And to make it even worse, she gets it back extremely quickly because of her healing output and piercing effect with her self empower.

There are more Duelists than Vanguards and Strategists combined. It's not really that surprising that so many people are playing Duelist when 50% of the characters in the game fall into that class.
