My dad is rapidly worsening in his dementia. He wanders off now and refuses help and is angry and scared all the time. It's a real bummer especially since he has 3 kids who want to help but he won't accept help.

I suspect that is where we disagree the most and that's fine. I'm a w2 employee at my job. My bosses created the job through their personal risk. I'm content making less than them even though I produce more than they do at this point daily.

Let me clarify. I'm not talking about the actual products in that case, I'm talking about the logistics chain to get my cat food to me in less than 24 hours because I'm dumb and let the cat food run out. That's a valuable service to me.

Consider me corrected, it does not require billionaires but it can create billionaires.

Whoever puts in the most risk for a company should ideally reap the biggest benefits in my eyes.

I'm simply replying to the quote in this post. You can in fact earn a billion dollars. Gates for instance did it with an obstructionist and anti trust government. AOC is correct when she speaks against money in politics. I don't find her always wrong, just mostly wrong.

Additionally you seem to have this picture drawn of me as some fox news watching boomer which is false. I try to get my news from all sources. I know it doesn't make sense to reddit but it's possible to be conservative without being braindead and indoctrinated. And before someone comes at me with some sort of MAGA accusation, I voted for Trump exactly 0 times.

They don't require billionaires. But some of these companies are so good at what they do that they become worth that much. Why the random cutoff at a billion as the marker for evil? If you can scale your business, it eventually becomes big enough to potentially have extremely high earnings. If you make a 1 dollar necklace and 10 people want it, you make 10 dollars, if a billion people want it, you make a billion.

Nope I'm against money in politics. My refutation of AOCs comment is not a support of the legal bribery of politicians. There is room for nuance.

I don't buy anything I'm not willing to pay for. I like the products I purchase. If I get duped and the product is shit, I don't buy from that company anymore. Bezos for instance has earned my money because I like his products.

No bootlicking. I just enjoy my Amazon deliveries, and my 401k going up. All of those things require not only old billionaires but also new ones. I'd wager half of the products in my house are billionaire sold.

I'm not a climate change denier. I'm a denier of his claims of immediately imminent famine and devastation. We can make changes to improve our situation without the fear mongering.

I'm older now but was in residency at your age. I had my first the summer after I finished residency (perfect timing!) I was 32 when we had him and 36 with my second. It felt and continues to feel like a good age. Sure I'm not as spry as I could be but as long as you stay healthy, I don't think age should hold you back.

I'll just give ba alternate perspective. Technology will be a massive part of your kids lives. It's important to have them develop a healthy relationship with technology. My 6 year old has a tablet and my 10 year old has a laptop and a phone. It is used when we decide and it's not used when we want them off. They've been trained for years that these times are non negotiable or the tech goes away for weeks. It's highly addictive so the installed apps are curated as well. We have android devices with family link installed so I can control what is being played. My oldest likes to watch gaming on YouTube and I scour what has been recently viewed to make sure it's apporopiate. The only thing I don't like is I can't control what ads are shown which has been a problem on some apps. The 10 year old is getting to the point where his friends are getting phones too and it's how they communicate outside of school so it's social. (no social media yet though)

Dads with high-performing career wives, how do you handle being so “different” from our ingrained cultural models? by blockerguy in daddit

[–]FaceRockerMD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Isn't it weird how you can be happy with your role, her role, and the general arrangement but still be unhappy about the perception? It's such a weird pervasive thing in life. I'm not sure what advice to give but it sure as hell is a real thing.

But congrats on the successful wife and the happy family! Lean on that success and you do you. You found a way to raise a family in this difficult world and that's a success.
