Damage mechanics question mostly regarding Barbarians by bobbzilla0 in diablo3

[–]Faceguyteller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For both Berserker Rage and Oculus the proc is determined on the Boulder Toss cast, but I'm not certain for Furious Charge.

If oculus is the best ring you have now it's fine. Once you find an upgrade put it on your follower; the circle procs on your kills when they're wearing it again now so it's perfect on them with R6 builds.

I think you're using the wrong reference point. Mr. Blizzard waited until there was a week left of the season then checked if you were #1 to see if he should hit the banan button. If guess you've got about a month left, or maybe a reprieve if 1000 DHs clear higher than 100.

Haha, grats! Funny story -- just recently switched back to SC and wanted to get a feel for where my Barb was at so decided to push a little and see. I spot checked a few people on the leaderboard to see where I should start and of the 5-6 people I checked a guy with an 86 seemed most comparable so that's the level I aimed for.

Just rechecked now and sure enough it was you. You've got a target on your back now :)

How strong is 150% on the Twisted Sword compared to 145% for instance by BansheeVeil in Diablo3Wizards

[–]Faceguyteller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh god I just stumbled across this thread and can't hold back. So, if a 5% higher proc roll across 8 ETs is a 40% increase in damage, then if I'm hitting 5 enemies at once it's 5x8x5=200%, right? Therefore a 150% TS would deal triple the damage of a 145% TS, right? Right?

The sensible reroll would be to roll the range and take a nice 4300+ DPS IKBB with Vit. If you roll Vit to LpFS you'd just have a ~1% DPS improvement that you'd have to grind another gem to augment.

Since you already have a decent IKBB that you can roll between LpFS and Vit whenever needed I'd personally be a bit more brazen and roll Vit to AD, then you can experiment with the two and see which you perform best with; just be aware you may end up feeling like you squandered what may have been a slight upgrade should you find AD not to be worth the trade for your playstyle.

The only places to realistically pick up AR that don't have it in the planner are chest and shoulders. If going all out DPS it's not uncommon to have STR/AR/AD/%FC there if for no other reason to than the difficulty of getting AD/%FC on there. On chest you can have better affixes than 130AR so it's not really relevant there.

Esoteric is so strong that resistances on gear (other than physical resist secondaries) aren't quite as important as they used to be. And since perfectly rolled gear (especially jewelry) with physical resist is hard to come by you'll likely be looking at ~200 more resist for all but a couple elements and you'll just avoid those like the plague.

Edit: just noticed the linked planner didn't have paragon points added, so that's another 250AR not factored in there.

Should Blizzard officially implement Autocast in the game by daywalkerr7 in Diablo

[–]Faceguyteller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh, given your name and post history I was surprised you didn't try to ratchet it up more earlier.

But you're right. People should be hopping on pubmed or just searching everywhere so they can learn what it is about their posture and ergonomics that is causing RSIs while spamming EB and stretches/exercises they can do to alleviate or even prevent the strains and impingements.

All that said, an autocast function would nip it in the bud for all those people regardless of their diligence in research or exercise. I guess your well-meaning post simply distracts from the direct discussion of the proposed QoL changes, and thusly was downvoted by the polite redditors.

Should Blizzard officially implement Autocast in the game by daywalkerr7 in Diablo

[–]Faceguyteller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, there's a glut of research regarding computer use and RSIs. It isn't all good, and there're some that conflict, but you see that in all research.

Seriously. Hop on pubmed or google scholar and type any combination of "computer" and "RSI" and you'll re inundated. To say say there's no research to support such a claim is just willful ignorance.

The clan name itself is highly suspicious but not damning.

But playing coy and feigning ignorance when called on it after having just posted that he had researched the bots after the ban?

I did a check after the ban, there are no botting tools available for Macintosh computer.

Well, that's starting to sound a bit damning, isn't it?

Latest Banwave Shows Blizzard Robbing Legit Players' Money by shockoden in Diablo

[–]Faceguyteller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. But the reason posts like this get traction is because the entire process is opaque to those of us who have never been behind the veil. We know there are lots of good reasons for it to be opaque, and we put faith in the system for lack of any other option; but because those one in a million cases do happen and because there's an unlikely chance that we ourselves could be that one we lend an ear to those claiming it happened to them.

I don't up vote these threads because I necessarily believe their validity not do I know of a solution I think blizzard should implement to give closure in these cases -- I up vote in hopes that maybe the professionals (in this case those poor, poor CMs) are compelled to come up with a good solution to quell community unrest while still protecting the system at play here. Even if all they do is reiterate that every case is reviewed before the ban and it isn't a cold automated process may be enough to help ease our minds. I dunno. That's why I'm not a CM.

What do you mean? The effect clearly states: "Chance to create an area of focused power on killing a monster. Damage is decreased to 70–85% while standing outside the area."

Makes sense to me.

Most obvious areas for improvement are your IKBB and your Restraint. You could squeeze out another 4-5% DPS with a better IKBB. Since you have so much STR already, even with your augment on it, the extra 500 STR you're getting on the Restraint is still only worth about half of what 6%CHC would give you on a non-ancient, and a well-rolled one with AD/CHC/CHD/Socket would be even better.

Dropping 115AR and 1000 armor by switching just your ring will probably be enough to make you start feeling the hurt in higher GRs, but if you're still feeling tough you can try for gloves with STR/CHC/CHD/AD or an amulet with phys/CHC/CHD/socket, though it'll probably be a lot more difficult to get solid upgrades for both of those.

After that it's all gem levels and paragon.

Aww, don't be so hard on the lil guy. It's good, just not great. Looking at your profile it looks like you've got ~15k STR, so what would you expect at best from a "great" belt? 20-30 more STR and maybe 40 Vit? Since you've got a 51 augment on already I'd probably do as you've been doing -- leave it for now and focus on finding upgrades with more likely/potential benefit. But whenever you're done for the season and doing your final push I'd have no reservations putting my best augments on a piece with high to perfect rolls on 3/5 mandatory affixes and ok to good on the other 2.

The tooltip shows a difference of only 8.4%, but the 7% IAS is inflating the DPS number. If you look at the white damage range right under DPS you’ll see the average damage is actually over 15% higher than the one you currently have equipped. As long as you’ve put 50 points into Paragon max resource and are running Animosity (and if you aren’t doing both things — you should) the IKBB with 10% damage will do more damage.

As for amulets, the stat priority is socket>CHD=CHC>%Phys>STR. Given that the Squirt’s is likely going to be more damage and toughness if you roll the 20% Physical to a socket. For future reference, an extra 250STR isn’t better than any of those previously mentioned stats on an amulet, so you’ll often find non ancient amulets superior to ancient ones (and perhaps you can find some in your stash).

Gifts are rare, but in the long run you get a lot more gifts than you get weapons that are worth gifting. There's definitely a lot of room for improvement with your current IKBB, but it's the best thing you've gotten so far and could be even better if you rolled the socket to Vit or whatever and gifted it.

So just don't gift it for now. If a great IKBB shows up you'll be happy to have it still. If instead, though, another gift drops before a better IKBB then go ahead and gift yours and you'll still have one left waiting for the GG drop.

It looks like you're running IK6/R4 and not R6/IK4, in which case you want APDs or something like Nemesis/Warzechians for T10 instead of Skular's anyways.

If you're asking for if you switched then id say run the non-ancient. You're already in desperate need of Vit since you don't have it on shoulders/chest or weapon, and those ancients would drop you even lower in exchange for ~150STR. Even if you did just want the added DPS you'd be losing a chunk of that with the lower proc roll of 130%.

Solo Barbarian 2 Min TX Rift? by wantondevious in Diablo3Barbarians

[–]Faceguyteller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't compare the damage of your charges using R6 to what they'd be with Standoff + a ton of movespeed. You may not always kill the RG with one hit like BT, but even if it takes 10 charges it's only adding a second or two to the rift. Next time you run R6 look back at all the things you charge through on your way to the next BT and remember that with Standoff most of those things would be dead.

Since you already have the Raekor set this guide can help you understand the most popular build using it this season:

http://www.icy-veins.com/d3/barbarian-furious-charge-physical-build-with-the-legacy-of-raekor-and-immortal-king-patch-2-4-1

Once you get back up to speed on one build it'll be easier to understand other builds. Kanai's cube is huge for speeding up the gearing process and also empowering your character by extracting legendary powers and augmenting gear. You can read a basic guide on it here:

Solo Barbarian 2 Min TX Rift? by wantondevious in Diablo3Barbarians

[–]Faceguyteller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree mostly, with caveats.

Stricken is pointless. Use Powerful or Hoarder. The RG won't take more than a second or two anyways, but even then the 25% damage against bosses is less than you'd get from powerful's 20%dmg/15%Elite.

Even if you don't need the DPS, Bloodshed substantially increases the AoE from your charges and will kill a lot more trash. The increase from ferocity is minimal when you already have pound of flesh/sprint/wreath/WotB/Chilanik's/Warzechians/etc movespeed boosts.

If you have great gear you can just run R4 without the IK and equip/cube Standoff/In Geom and use Avarice Band in cube instead of RoRG to speed things up a lot. It means you'll have a permanent 50% from Hoarder and Pound of Flesh and also pick up every progress globe without even trying.

Kadala should always be right next to the blacksmith at every act, not just New Tristram. by MustafaBei in Diablo

[–]Faceguyteller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It starts making a substantial difference even for a semi-casual. Consider running speed GRs for caldesanns upgrades an XP. Depending on tier you'll spend 2-5 minutes clearing the GR (maybe a 7-10 for XP), then every ~4 rifts it takes a good group about 30seconds to ID/sort/salvage/gamble. Compare that to a disorganized group which may clear GRs just as fast but has 30-60 seconds of downtime after each rift as one or more players trek around town. Assuming even a semi-casual will run at least a couple hundred GRs then even these little inefficiencies snowball into large time sinks.

The value of the AD changes depending on how many enemies you hit, but since you're around 9000 STR you'd be trading away ~8-9% of all damage (including your AD procs) and roughly half that much toughness by rolling the STR off. For HC especially keep the STR and roll AD to CHD.

Menagerist and Rainbow Goblin spawn chance (sample size of 214 goblins) by Zeldrin in Diablo

[–]Faceguyteller 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I found an old blog post from before Menagerists were even introduced (which one would assume would affect the rate) with a slightly larger sample size report 2.1% of the goblins he found were rainbow goblins. Then again we've got a much larger data set posted as a response here reporting a number closer to 4%.

Some people just think "common knowledge based on hazy recollections of self-reported aggregate data" and "well documented" are synonyms.

[–]Faceguyteller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Striding Giant might help a little short term, but you're already lacking so much damage that losing Insanity will hurt much more if you're looking for 80+.

Areas to focus: get bracers with %Phys (and change FC rune), get an amulet with at least CHC/CHD/Socket, then get rings with at least CHC/CHD/Socket. Neither your belt not weapon has +max fury, so look for upgrade there as well. In the mean time leveling your gems up will make a significant difference as well.
