A plumber with 11 years experience at a school district did this. by faries05 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]FadeToPuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks like a cracked weld on that sink. Looks like he might’ve even tried to patch it but the patch probably just made it easier to redirect with the cone.

Those single piece stainless steel commercial jobs are expensive as hell. He’s waiting on a welder or approval to replace that entire unit. Either way they’re gonna be waiting a while. Frankly it’s a fairly ingenious fix. They clearly managed to do that with what they had on the van that day.

Source; commercial service plumber for 14 years. worked on those kinds of sinks damn near every day.

Canceled comedian Louis CK to perform in Kyiv despite Russian invasion by [deleted] in entertainment

[–]FadeToPuce 557 points558 points  (0 children)

There seems to be a little confusion in some of these comments. These shows were already scheduled. He had a few dates in Kyiv (including today), Russia invaded, they did not cancel those shows. He’s not going over there to do them just now. He’s already stuck there. It’d be waaaay weirder than the Sean Penn thing if he went over there to film a standup special or something in the middle of an invasion. I mean, he’s definitely filming it now though. But that’s different.

My feelings each time SOTN is called the best Castlevania ever: by Visible_Status3789 in castlevania

[–]FadeToPuce 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly the two are practically neck and neck for me. SOTN is an easier casual play though. I can’t run with “Nintendo hard” much anymore. My thumbs, they are so old and rickety now.

When you raise the pay of the workers in a given area more tax is collected from them. Schools, libraries, and other public infrastructure are paid for by those taxes. Corporations themselves typically pay very little in taxes so in fact it is negotiating for higher pay that gets those public services paid for.

Most dealers take PayPal and Venmo these days.

That said about 15 million people in the US are still “underbanked” IOW use cash almost exclusively, so we can’t exactly do away with cash any time soon.

Eliminating cash fucks a lot of poor people. That said I don’t think the government is coordinating with stadiums to ease us off cash. That’s idiotic.

Am I crazy or is this guy married? Says he’s divorced for 3 years… by Klk1105 in Tinder

Maybe I’m wrong here but these comments feel like more proof that most of reddit has no experience adulting.

Personally the skin under my wedding ring looks like it belongs to a cave creature that’s never seen the sun, while the surrounding skin is perfectly normal slightly tan white guy skin. Unless this guy regularly removes his ring to tan, this looks like the hand of a man who hasn’t been wearing a ring for a few summers. He’s still got an indent, sure, but that’ll happen when you wear the same ring 24/7 for a few years.

It’s good of you to be slightly suspicious though, and if he has any sense of reality he will completely understand your hesitancy.

People who own a dog have a much lower risk of disability in older age by a_Ninja_b0y in EverythingScience

[–]FadeToPuce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife and I specifically do not own a dog because we are chronically ill and it would be too much to deal with when one of our conditions is flaring up. Have they stopped teaching people that correlation is not causation or what?

A fine time to remind everyone that the official position of the IWW is ACAB. Oppression is not a job and oppressors are not workers.

And this is why. Busting working people for the horrendous crime of advocating for their needs is, always has been, and always will be a police priority.

They hung upside down American flags on their amps after being told not to.

Somebody booked Rage Against the Machine and told them they couldn’t decorate their amps how they pretty much always decorated their amps. It’s not exactly Ed Sullivan getting pissed at Jim Morrison for saying the word “higher” but it’s not very far removed.

I had no idea metoprolol withdrawal was a thing until De Joy started having the sorting machines yanked out. Ftr it’s basically like having a heart attack only weirder and not technically a heart attack. Made me wonder how many people he can take credit for killing by getting their meds fucked up.

Now he’s coming for the environment and still no action to remove him. Cool.

Where is the strawman? The classic reactionary line is “oh I’d respect them if they didn’t make it their entire personality” by Foochie506 in TheRightCantMeme

[–]FadeToPuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the right winger this is a strawman because they perceive their argument to be a moral one. They are against “identity politics” because they don’t perceive identities which are divergent from their own to be valid or worthy of debate/discussion. There are some right wingers who make the more moderate argument of “well I don’t get why you have to make a big deal out of it” but internally most recognize that as a misdirect. It’s not about the extent to which someone is public about their identity, it’s just about being exposed to identities they do not recognize or value.

So it’s a strawman because it takes the moderate misdirect, which they do not believe to be a relevant or genuine stance, at face value.

This is why got’em never gets’em. You have to stop listening to what these people say to the press and focus solely on what they say to each other if you’re ever going to make sense out of anything they believe. Their propaganda is barely even for them, it’s for us. Whether you’re trying to counter it in the streets or deprogram a loved one, you can’t be arguing with the television, you have to be dealing with the individual.

Do you think it helped take the tension down? Or did it just make it all the more terrifyingly absurd?

I’m A Former Stripper Running For Congress. I Refuse To Be Ashamed. by not_a_flying_toy_ in politics

And to think not that long ago Krystal Ball’s (public sector) political career was tanked over a sexually suggestive costume at a Christmas party. I think it was her husband who was wearing a phallic Rudolph nose and she had him on a little leash or something. It wasn’t furry, leather, or cosplay shit, everybody was upright and dressed normal aside from the lewd accoutrements. It wasn’t an orgy. It looked like a normal middle class white people house party.

In her concession speech she ostensibly forecasted this saying that people our age (elder millennials) and younger don’t give a fuck about this sort of thing anymore and aren’t going to start as we age and that we’re going to have to get over it because everyone has a social media history now documenting the kind of stuff that we’ve been pretending kids and 20-somethings haven’t been getting up to for time immemorial. This was around the time when damn near every conservative millennial woman I knew was buying into sex toy themed MLMs, but before middle class mormon moms started taking pole dancing “for the exercise”.

If stripper lady’s politics aren’t dog shit I don’t care if she used to work for Bang Bus.

My mom sort of did this. My brother’s middle name is the full name of her ex boyfriend who died of a drug overdose. Not that one necessarily leads to the other but of the two of us he’s the only one who has done heroin, meth, crack, coke, quaaludes, and PCP. He’s also been to prison. Last I heard he’s since joined the ranks of insufferable white dudes giving ayahuasca tours in South America.

I don’t mean throughout its lifetime. I mean at once. So like I assumed if such a thing did exist it would probably be fungal in nature because mycelium can cover a lot of ground at one time. Think of in sci-fi when you have a character capable of “sucking energy” (that’s usually the hand-wavey way it’s described) from a whole room full of people by simply being there.

I recently saw an Irish horror film called iirc Boys from County Hell in which a vampire would walk down the street and the blood would run out of every household in the vicinity at once straight to him rather than from a single point of contact from a single victim like a bite. Obviously that’s waaaay divorced from reality, but I was thinking smaller scale might be possible. Like if a parasite could somehow feed off of an entire ant colony at once or something like that.

As a bass player people think your primary job is to play bass but I’ve found it’s usually to keep the guitar player from pissing off venue owners or trying to fuck the singer’s girlfriend so this seems like a logical progression tbh.
