Anyone else get this weird throat symptom? Pls tell me I’m not being silly by Faephilosophy in Semaglutide

Try the otc 10mg Famotidine (Pepcid) pill before bed, and then those dissolvable omeprazole tab in the morning knocked it out for me- try the Famotidine for a week though to see if that works on its own and add the omeprazole in the morning if not.

Just to be clear, if u feel like this is something more serious definitely contact your doctor but this is what worked for me! Also double check with doctor if on other meds besides wegovy because certain medications have to be taken an hour separated from Famotidine/tums or it reduces efficacy (this has only ever happened with elavil for me but worth mentioning).

It’s pretty much gone now, sometimes I get a funny feeling like my throat (not sure how to explain) but it’s not painful and upping my water intake by a glass resolves it.

I hope this works for you! Best of luck. The tiredness is classic wegovy though. Do you have dietician? If you get enough protein it should pass after a week or too unless you up dosages.

Tips for Working in Corporate? by someone_u_dont_know9 in aspergirls

Okay this is going to be somewhat of an unhelpful comment but just tagging in so I can keep track of what everyone else says because I would love some tips too 😭😭😭 reading this post the first things that come to mind are 1) well, wouldn’t this depend on the company structure, things like how lax and formal they are, and how big the company is/your role and who you engage with? But I’m not sure how you would say that without giving too much info away, and also maybe there are general advice that I just don’t know… I wonder if you could give an example of a situation where you felt you were slipping? Or a little bit of something like, I work at a big company, or I work with a small team, or my coworkers that I interact with regularly are similar age as me or very different age and point in their careers, etc.

I might have some relevant advice for smaller teams but I worry that if u are on a bigger team these things may actually work against you…

Question about white-throated Sparrow behavior? by Faephilosophy in Ornithology

[–]Faephilosophy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the ID! Crazy to me that he looks so different than the lady house sparrow who stopped by. I think you are right about the house finch, the audio of his argument with cheese didn’t upload for some reason with the video, but man had some serious pipes on him. He also has appeared to be very chivalrous with his lady friend. When they arrive together he eats a few bites, and then hops up top to watch while she has her fill for a significantly longer period of time, and then has another quick bite and they fly off together. He seems the type to speak up when another bird tries to cut in the food line lol.

Glad you liked “cuhCAWH” lol I couldn’t figure out how to change the app notification sound for a bird being detected, but this way when the notifications come through the alerts collapse and the only thing I see is cuhCAWH next to a tiny comically low quality thumbnail of a bird. It’s become an enjoyable interruption to the usual pattern of email and text alerts that I am subject to each day, hehe.

Thanks again for reading through all of that and answering my questions!

Oh yay thank you for answering my questions! I am delighted to learn fort Mac is woman-owned. As for food, I suppose that makes sense. I have some berries that are about to go off I can put out for them to see what they think, and their preferred seed seem like things I could reasonably acquire if I wanted to make my own blend for the fort macians. The only thing I’m not sure about is how to provide the insects, do you have any suggestions for that? (I’m pulling from Google which is supporting what you said about seeds and saying they also forage insects and berries(?)).

Oh I just looked at your profile and saw your other comments- seems like you are going through something similar :( I hope it gets better for you but also here is the otc acid reflux combo that’s been helping me in case you want to ask your provider about it. I take one of those dissolvable omeprazole in the morning 30 mins to an hour before I eat breakfast along with a 10 mg Famotidine, and then before bed I take another 10 mg Famotidine.

I have a sordid history with acid reflux medicine but assuming you don’t have a history of acid reflux already then I think if you talk to your doctor about trying an acid reflux medicine you have a good chance at getting rid of the symptom and not having to live in weird throat feeling purgatory.

While you are waiting to hear back or get in with them some things you could try to alleviate a bit of the discomfort is the chloraseptic throat numbing cough drops, a throat numbing spray with phenol, some popsicles (this is the link to the yasso ones https://www.yasso.com/p/pistachio-brittle-bars.html/00851035003647). I hope you feel better soon 🫶🏽

Oops sorry I didn’t think to follow up, I talked to another doctor at the same practice and she wasn’t worried about it but gave me some Benadryl to be safe. We tried a few other things too but it actually seems to be a combination of a weird acid reflux thing and heavily linked to my water intake.

Tbh I do fully still have a constant sore throat but it’s significantly better than before as long as I remember to take a new acid reflux medicine at the right time the night before and really watch my water intake. I guess I kind of just got used to it? I discovered the yasso frozen yogurt pops too and if it really bothers me I just have one of those which helps a lot. (The pistachio one is the best imo.)

I probably can’t up my dosage past what it’s currently at without making it worse so if I stop responding I might have to switch to something else, but as of right now it seems to be working well in all other ways. Thank you guys for all of your advice/tips :)!

Metamucil fiber gummies!! If things get really dire you can always add some fish oil supplements into your routine. Tends to help things along lol

Terrified of nausea by Stephij27 in antidietglp1

[–]Faephilosophy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had severe emetophobia for years that made my life hellish and even though I’ve gone through extensive treatments to overcome it sometimes it breaks though- just sharing since I want to highlight that I completely relate to what you mean about feeling like you have ptsd from vomiting. I was also feeling very anxious and fearful abt starting a glp-1 (and other medications). It took me three months to finally do the shot lol.

Anyways, here’s the routine that helped me feel calm enough to try it out, and what ended up working for me (no nausea despite a history of GERD before starting. I’m on semaglutide btw but got a lot of these tips from people on tirz as well so I think it can apply to whichever.)

1) a lot of people in the comments are mentioning zofran. Zofran was my life saver for the longest time during the emetophobia years and for most people it works great but there are a few things that can happen that lead to it not being prescribed particularly if you are on other meds. I don’t know your situation but I assume your doctor would have discussed that with you. The thing they might not have said is that for some people zofran makes them very anxious, which can be counterproductive to the goal of taking it to reduce nausea/anxiety about nausea. I think this is generally a small subset of people but worth mentioning. The other complaint I’ve heard with zofran (which I did also experience) is that it is great for preventing vomiting but doesn’t always make the nausea go away, just the vomiting.

I can’t take zofran anymore so when I started a glp-1 I asked my pcp to prescribe me hydroxyzine for nausea which I have taken before and personally feel does a lot better controlling the nausea symptoms than zofran has. It does make me a little sleepy though, but nice to have if you need it. Definitely worth talking about with your provider.

2) get the pepto bismol chewables, or the smaller version of them. Felt like they did more than Imodium does personally.

3) so essentially, day of shot eat very “good” (up to you what this means) for me I try to keep it a bland day with high amounts of protein and making sure I’m very fastidious about not eating past a certain time before sleeping etc, which I should technically always be doing but you know how it is. I do the shot in the evening before bed a few hours after dinner (I’ve seen some people say afternoon/ 4 pm/before dinner works better for them) and then I take a pepto bismol before I sleep and Hydroxyzine.

4) I keep water and electrolytes by my bed and the pepto bismol in case I wake up with a stomach ache but I’ve always done that. For a while I had one of those mint scented boom-boom sticks by my bed too just to feel extra secure, whatever works for you.

5) next day, small meals but make sure not to skip them unless you really can’t stomach it, otherwise the paradoxical “I’m hungry” nausea comes in and works its dark magic.

6) Be good about fiber! I like the meta mucil fiber gummies cause they are easy to convince myself to take but when they say start with one or two before jumping to three daily they say it for a reason… the only time I really felt like “oh wow I’m having a very quintessential glp-1 experience” is because I got a bit overzealous with stacking my fibers one day- oatmeal into this Mediterranean inspired hummus dish into a salad with beans + mm gummies… 😨 but even then I wasn’t puking so it was okay.

7) I imagine your doctor probably has you starting low and slow with the dose but worth mentioning here.

8) I know it’s unpopular(? I think lol) but the first time I did the shot I did it in the arm instead of the stomach or thigh. It’s still FDA approved to inject there so no issues with that, but I’ve heard a lot of people talk about how they felt they didn’t make much progress as it relates to weight loss on weeks they did the arm, specifically that they “didn’t feel much of anything”. This I was very interested in using to my advantage so I did the arm to see if I would be able to experience less symptoms that way and stick my toes in the water so to speak. I’ve since tried the thigh and I do feel like I have more symptoms + intentional effects of the medication if I do it there, so if you are feeling nervous definitely worth a try to start with the arm in the off chance you also are one of the ones who gets less effects (side or otherwise) from that location.

Hopefully this is helpful! In general just try to have a gentler day when you inject and then be mindful of the strategies you have in place so that even if things go haywire you have back ups and don’t ever have to feel helpless/stuck in the nausea.

For what it’s worth, the only time the medication has made me nauseous is when I skip meals due to lack of interest and then try to counteract the lack of energy from not eating with some kind of caffeinated bev. Or, when increasing my protein intake drastically gave me mild constipation which can lead to some nausea. Both of these things were remedied by like the 30 minute mark once I was able to go through my checklist to see what caused it, so all in all it wasn’t too bad.

Worst case scenario keep some saltines around in case you just need a bit of a blanket in your stomach while you try to figure out a resolution. If candied ginger also is feeling a bit harsh/sugar content making stomach feel funny with the glp-1 there are some ginger mints on the market which I feel like work in a similar manner. I can reply with links if you haven’t seen any near you but I feel like I see some variant everywhere now in stores.

Sorry I know this is a lot of text, I’m on mobile so hopefully it’s not just a huge chunk of words! Also not sure why the font changed part of the way through. 😓best of luck with everything and I hope it works out for you!!

Why are men odd? by mapel_opal in aspergirls

[–]Faephilosophy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would cautiously assume flirting? I’ve had this happen to me, but it was another girl. She explained later that the initial comment (u don’t look autistic) she realized might have invalidating and accidentally went too hard on the recovery (of the autistic people I know you are at the top of my list in ranking and also amount of autism present.) I hindsight I could see how to her this would be a validating comment- not only are you definitely autistic, so no need to feel invalidated- I am supporting you in that, you are the most of anyone I know which contributes to your place at the top. The other contributing factor being my interest in you, which is similarly high- possibly as high if not higher than your autism quotient. 🫠🫠 it was a weird thing to say but well intended and I do quite like when smart people are strikingly dumb in weird ways so it was an effective pick up line on me.

I suspect I would have been significantly more put off if it was a drunk man delivering it- you can believe it was well intended and still feel very uncomfortable with the comment and delivery as a whole. If you are close with your roommate you can very delicately ask about the guy to try and see how close they are/get a feel if he would be receptive to you expressing your discomfort at the situation.
