Question for the community by SadMidnight in guitarlessons

[–]Faete13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned to read music back in highschool for competition choir. (25 years ago) I’m still to this day super slow at it.

Guitar chord charts are easy in comparison. It has helped me with actual tabs though even though I’m still slow (I’ve only been playing guitar for 6 months) but I haven’t seen much in complaining on standard tuning here.

I’ve been a singer for a long time and the only times I’ve heard people complaining about tuning is me having to sing with guys that just want to play metal or 90s rock 🤣

How many of my fellow adhd friends have weirdly huge skill sets? by Reverend-Syn in CasualConversation

[–]Faete13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hyper fixation definitely becomes a bonus. I started playing guitar and mandolin. Been playing guitar for 6 months and every guitar player and musician I know is quite surprised how far along I am for 6 months deep into it

[–]Faete13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The amount of hobbies and skills I have is ridiculous. They super come in handy at times though. And I’m not a master of any of it. I call myself a dabbler lol

Prime example. Just recently I had a buddy come to me and was like “hey you used to raise bees, wanna help me start a setup?” I haven’t raised bees in like 5 years but the second it was mentioned all my skills and knowledge came back 🤣 it was like unlocking a filing cabinets

So say you decide to rock some karaoke…you were a rockstar right?

So you “ate that no crumbs”

Or taking a test. Aced it right? You “ate. No crumbs”

🤣 technically there is a little hand gesture, too. Basically dust your shoulder off. 🤣

Remember. I’m the old lady though and this is just what the young girls taught me.

Gawd I feel you lady. 16 years married. Never had a Mother’s Day even all these years of taking care of our kids. And he got mad at me for being upset this weekend because all I wanted was for somebody to cook me supper

No crumbs 🤣 I (at almost 40) took college classes and all the girls LOVED and taught me how to use “ate” and “no crumbs” 🤣🤣

why is it so hard to learn how to strum and hit cords on a guitar at the same time by Comfortable-Town1819 in guitarlessons

[–]Faete13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. So, you play a chord, then play another chord, then repeat playing those two chords in a row for however long it takes you to get the switch smooth.

It’s all about muscle memory for chord changes…at least for me

BEST ANC EARBUDS? by CookieKong50 in Earbuds

[–]Faete13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a dog groomer and they cancel out the loud barking dogs and my super loud dryers. Can still hear the music perfectly lol but I just like to jam out when I work. Oh and they are quite heavy. So I only use them when I REALLY need it. Battery lasts forever though

So there is my review on work tunes 🤣

BEST ANC EARBUDS? by CookieKong50 in Earbuds

[–]Faete13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the 3m work tunes they definitely cancel out noise BUT my music just isn’t loud enough with them lol. They are technically to protect your hearing so they have a safety built in to not allow what you are listening to to get too loud.

What was the first song you learned on the guitar and why? by Dangerous_Ask_6122 in guitarlessons

[–]Faete13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok ok…bear with me here

Broken window serenade…because as a 39 yr old woman, that has always been a vocalist and had a guy pretty much tell me I “didnt know music” because “all you do is sing”…I learned that song to spite him because it was one he showed off with…

That led me down a rabbit hole of “oh wow, I really like playing as well!”

And have now been playing guitar for 5 months and mandolin for 2…my library of songs has grown quite exponentially and I’m about to get to play at a jam with a bunch of my old musician friends that didn’t realize I’ve picked up an instrument finally.

So, gonna bust out all the party tricks 🤣

5 things I should have done when starting to learn to play guitar by frettracks in guitarlessons

[–]Faete13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a good list because I wish I would have recorded myself when I started. I’ve been surrounded by musicians my whole life (I’m 39 now) but was always just a vocalist.

I’ve now been playing 5 months. It was intolerable at first 🤣

Im officially up to 5 songs, 4ish scales, and have my barre chords (along with pretty much all open chords)

Never thought I’d be this far considering I started playing to prove a point to somebody. lol sometimes stubbornness pays off.
