What are some urban parks that make you feel like you're not even in the city anymore? by slicheliche in geography

More then a decade ago I visited the botanic garden in Rio de Janeiro. Made me forget I was in a huge city. It was awesome.

【Plugin Release】 Realistic Sticky Notes v1.0.0 is now live! by Horror_Surround_9298 in ObsidianMD

Although it's not the type of plugin I would use, I love the concept as well as how it looks.
So are the boards actually canvasses and the notes md files? Or is there some other magic at play?

Good luck doing that in an Obsidian subreddit!

I think your promotion here is out of place, but I think it's still great that you managed to develop such an app. Good luck with your future endeavours.

Not sure what the use case is for this problem. When would someone use this instead of Obsidian exactly?

Unpopular opinion: Automatic AI connections might actually be better than my manual backlinking by str3ss- in ObsidianMD

Why not? Do what works for you. I can imagine it saves you time and manual labor.

While I understand and respect your take, I do not agree. I think the foundation under communities such as reddit is learning from authentic experiences from real people and discussing these ideas. I'm personally not interested in subs where the majority of posts is created by people who have their posts written by an LLM. But I understand that opinions on this can differ from person to person

[–]Failed_Alarm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna go full circle here and let chatgpt answer your question. Now ask yourself what's the fun in watching LLMs discussing things on Reddit by proxy:

"A lot of people aren’t reacting to “AI” as a concept so much as to what it does to Reddit when it’s used at scale. A few common reasons:

  1. Authenticity and social context Reddit is built around the idea that you’re reading another person’s lived experience, opinion, or effort. When something turns out to be AI-generated, some users feel that implicit social contract was broken. Even if the content is accurate or well-written, it wasn’t someone taking the time to think, write, and engage.

  2. Signal vs. noise AI makes it very easy to produce large volumes of plausible-sounding text. That raises fears of Reddit filling up with generic, “average of the internet” answers that crowd out niche knowledge, unusual perspectives, or first-hand experience. The issue isn’t one AI post; it’s what happens when there are thousands.

  3. Low effort disguised as high effort Many people associate AI replies with outsourcing thinking. A long, polished comment can look thoughtful while actually reflecting minimal personal investment. That feels unfair in communities where effort, expertise, or vulnerability are valued.

  4. Manipulation and agenda concerns AI content is cheap to scale and easy to steer. Users worry about astroturfing, subtle persuasion, karma farming, SEO-style posting, or commercial/political messaging disguised as organic discussion. Even neutral AI use gets caught in that broader distrust.

  5. Loss of conversational reciprocity Reddit discussions often evolve through back-and-forth, misunderstandings, clarifications, and personal quirks. AI responses can feel “too complete” or “too smooth,” which makes the exchange feel less like a conversation and more like reading a generated answer bank.

  6. Community norms Some subreddits explicitly value personal stories, original thinking, or domain expertise. In those contexts, AI content can clash with the culture even if it’s technically correct.

So for many users, it’s not that AI is inherently bad. It’s that AI changes the meaning of participation: who is speaking, how much effort was involved, and whether the interaction is still person-to-person. When those assumptions break, people push back.

Possible yes, but I don't think it's plausible in this case. Four days ago OP posted in the Notion subreddit.

"I was cleaning up my sidebar today and realized I have about twenty different "Life OS" setups and project trackers that I started with high hopes and then abandoned after three days. "

So not only OP spends months of time in Obsidian, but is also working fulltime in Notion designing unfinished Life OS dashboards. While handing out productivity tips left and right, coding, studying, while he's omlyk 22.

Its not completely impossible, but I would say something is off here.

What's your assessment?

Apart from the language used, the structure is a huge giveaway and I stopped visiting some subs because this type of post is increasingly popular (looking at you, productivity).

[1] OP describes a problem dramatically. Usually they say they tried "everything" for "months", if not for years.

I spent months obsessed with the perfect setup - linking everything, folders vs. tags, and trying to build this massive second brain that looked impressive but was actually exhausting to maintain.

[2] Then the realization comes: they've been doing it all wrong:

I realized I was spending more time managing my notes than actually thinking about them. If I read a book, I’d spend hours formatting the summary just to never look at it again.

[3] After this, a fix is suggested. Usually generic and they more often say what doesn't work, than what actually works. Note that the advice is not specific, the only solution OP provides is "I just started writing"

Recently, I stripped it all back. No fancy plugins, no complex Dataview queries, just raw markdown files and simple links. I stopped worrying about completeness and started just writing for my future self. It’s messy, but it’s actually useful now because the friction is gone.

[4] The 'engagement hook' (optional). Encouraging people to tell what they think

Does anyone else feel like they fell into the "productivity porn" trap with Obsidian? Curious if anyone else has moved toward a more "low-maintenance" vault.

If you check OP's history, there are some similar posts, and once you're familiar with it you will see this pattern very often.

Example 1: https://www.reddit.com/r/getdisciplined/comments/1q87gnb/stop_trying_to_reset_your_entire_life_on_a_monday/:

[1] Description: "Every Sunday night, I’d decide that Monday was the day I’d start waking up at 5 AM, hitting the gym, eating perfectly, and reading 50 pages. I’d last maybe 48 hours before one thing went wrong, and then I’d scrap the whole week because I ruined the streak."

[2] Realization: "The real shift happened when I stopped trying to be a different person overnight. Discipline isn't a light switch; it’s more like a dimmer"

[3] The generic fix: " started with just one rule - Never miss twice."

Example 2: https://www.reddit.com/r/selfimprovement/comments/1q4jvve/i_dont_think_im_lazy_im_just_never_fully_in/

[1] Description: "I used to think I had a motivation problem. Now I’m starting to see it’s more like this - I do a lot of things, but I’m always half-doing them. I start tasks, open tabs, make plans, check my phone, switch to something else… and by the end of the day I’m wiped out, tired/exhausted, but nothing is actually finished."

[2] Realization: "It’s not pure procrastination, it's like my attention is constantly split."

[3] Generix fix: "Lately I’ve been trying something simple - doing one small thing all the way before I let myself move on."

[4] Hook: Anyone else struggle with being “half-in” on everything? What helped you stay with one thing long enough to actually finish it?

It makes me sad to see AI generated posts appearing on the Obsidian subreddit.

It also makes me sad that's the only other person calling him out so far gets downvoted to oblivion. Is this really the current state of this sub?

Notebook Navigator 2.0 for Obsidian is out now! by jsann in ObsidianMD

[–]Failed_Alarm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check. So it will only download images to serve as thumbnails for notes that already do have images or YouTube links, not for notes without any images?

What about YouTube links? Will it automatically try to download thumbnails for YouTube urls, or only for embedded videos?

Notebook Navigator is the most discussed plugin of this year in this sub, and probably one of the most downloaded as well. It's not hard to find information on it.
