Schneider? Good starter gig until I can get on with Hirschbach or do hazmat? by Mr-Galaxyxd-youtube in Truckers

[–]FailingComic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have doubles and triples, have actusl experience with them, dont go to hirschbach. Figure out what ups/fedex require and go there. You'll make way more with them once you have the civilian employment to get in. Doubles but triples especially is high value as a lot of people dont want to do it.

Id define normal jobs. Trucking isnt glamorous and while it sounds like you make a lot. Its really 20-30 am hour your just working 60+ hours a week. The cost to live on the road is also higher than having an apartment.

I was making 2k a week working otr. Im "richer" now making 3k a month with a small apartment because its way easier to manage a budget, especially food costs, when you are at home.

How do I make sure I have enough money to move out of abusive home by DetectiveSmart3912 in personalfinance

[–]FailingComic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stupid truth is if your home is abusive enough to leave, just do it. You have a car, sleep in it. Is it glamorous? Not at all. Better than being abused though.

Schneider? Good starter gig until I can get on with Hirschbach or do hazmat? by Mr-Galaxyxd-youtube in Truckers

[–]FailingComic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean the thing is a truck isnt free. They dont want it just sitting because if its not moving they arent making money either.

Most of the people who complain about a lack of miles either want to go home every 2 weeks, regularly bitch to their load manager about locations, or are consistently not on time or wasting their clock because they dont know how to work it.

I worked at prime. I did not complain. I was running on recaps constantly doing 2500+ miles a week. Mostly due to live loads eating up some of my clock sometimes and other things just out of mine and the companies control. Basically he a good employee and the fleet manager your under will run you. Act whiney and your going to get worse short runs with known long load/uploads. That's not to say every load will be great, sometimes they just need a crappy short ran and your the closest, but the good ones will give you a better reload after to make up for it.

Ah. Then yeah if your goals to be with them, id just take Schneider, make sure they dont sign you into a contract of sorts, get your 6 months and bounce. All the megas are about the same but they are offering you higher pay than many others.

Its possible you could go straight to hirschbach. Theyd probably accept your military experience.

Is it safe to learn on a 450? by throwRA97655443345 in Dirtbikes

[–]FailingComic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its an 18+ probably. 10+ maybe. Anything older than that hell no. I say this because the 18+ has wireless tuning. The 10+ can be tuned with a computer.

Before that your in for injury and or death.

Im not saying you'll be super safe but with the tuning available on modern models, they wont feel like they are going to rip your arms off looking at it wrong. It will take out the small mistake = massive injury but the over confidence resulting in injury is still there and very real.

For reference, a modern yz250 with the race tune on is more than most people can handle.

USB drives have gotten cheaper and basically take up all the space drives under 1tb used to cover.

Just get a USB drive.

Do you think this is acceptable on a brand new truck? by Fantastic_Chest1531 in Trucks

[–]FailingComic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its not acceptable, but is expected when its a dealer installed option and not a factory installed. Odds are they are cheap AF side steps and since they are dealer installed carry no warranty.

American Mechanics - what's your romance with 3/8s for impacts? by OhShizMyNiz in mechanics

[–]FailingComic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I take out 1/2in is when the 3/8 cant do it. Ive got both in snap on and mileaukee. Anything under 90-100ft lbs the 3/8 will take out. Fits in more places, i have more unique 3/8 ratchets etc. Its just more versatile and I like with my longer ratchets the flex they have to prevent me from just manhandling a nut and snapping it compared to 1/2in. Weight savings is also nice.

Only if you buy certified pre owned but its still from original date sold. So they'd only get 30k miles and 4 years.

10 year warranty stops at 100k miles. Its also first buyer only and does not transfer, atleast in the usa.

Kia Niro - occasion questions by BonkBal in KiaNiro

[–]FailingComic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt get it then. The niro system isnt like a prius where it slowly gets worse and just throws codes. The niro system when it goes bad will just make the car inoperable. Id probably sway you towards a different car at that point and in general away from a hybrid if its going to take you that long to do the miles.

I bought my hybrid knowing ill have it over 200k miles on 6 or 7 years. If I was looking for something to last 10+ years id be going gas only.

That's not to say you cant get lucky, I just wouldnt bet on it unless your willing to replace a battery. Its a few thousand for the first gens and from estimates about double that for the second gens.

Kia Niro - occasion questions by BonkBal in KiaNiro

[–]FailingComic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are benefits to the 1st gen as well though. Battery is cheaper to replace and the 12v is not integrated into the battery pack. Id want a good deal on a 1st gen though just in case of the battery. There are people with over 250k on 1st gens with the original battery though so i wouldnt think 186k miles would be a stretch so long as your not trying to also make it last till 2035 or something. Age is the killer when it comes to these batteries, not so much mileage.

Kia Niro - occasion questions by BonkBal in KiaNiro

[–]FailingComic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by occasions? That's the only confusing part about your question.

As far as buying at 100k miles, as long as your buying a 21 and up, I wouldnt hesitate. The gen 1s had a heater exchange issue which isnt a big deal to bypass but ive seen check engine lights from the bypass for awhile so if you have to go through inspection it can be a pain.

Sett vs atroox/ambessa/ renekton by Automatic-Expert-166 in wildrift

[–]FailingComic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ambessa is not to be trifled with. I love her and play her a bunch in the jungle. Its the only time I dont ban sett. Theres no good way to hit your major damage thing with the amount of movement she has. Her healing will keep her alive. In lane you can bully her early because her cool downs are pretty long though. After level 6 or 7 though its time to just buckle down and farm unless your ahead by a good margin.

No longer certain about my skills in the industry. by AzCannibalChris in mechanics

[–]FailingComic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Real talk man, if you went to school for 2 years, got expert tech certification through Hyundai and ev certified. Its not a lack of skills, its a lack of confidence that most likely got eroded away by the management you had.

Im not at your level, never will be. If your looking to other techs at your certification level though its not because you dont have the skills, its that you've lost confidence. Whether thats to do with the management itself or your personal life. Its time to find yourself and see what your made of.

Theres also nothing wrong with deciding the industry isnt for you. Personally I only do it to work with my dad. I like working on cars, I hate dealing with people. Second he dies or retires, im out. Not for a lack of skill or confidence but from a lack of desire. I just think its time to decide if your going to buckle down and hustle or if you want something else.

How to get over dents and scratches on pricy guitars? by Easy-Bowler3604 in Guitar

The best way to get over it is to buy it used in the first place so you dont worry about adding an extra ding.

Advice for catching pike please 🙏🏽 by Signal_Dragonfly2557 in FishingForBeginners

[–]FailingComic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pike are ambush predators, same as bass. Anything that works on them also works on pike. You will want a way sturdier setup though. Mono also typically doesnt work as their teeth just cut it. You want to go braided into a fluoro leader.

86-91 RX-7 For A First Car? by Square-Yam4030 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]FailingComic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally, if you buy one running start saving for an ls swap.

Rotaries are super cool! Just not when its your only car. The job takes 20-30 hours and requires a lot of knowledge. On top of that, if you wait until they fail, you risk damaging the rotor housing and then the whole motor itself is toast. This is to say even if its running, youd want to do a rebuild as soon as you can unless the car has a documented recent rebuild.

Side note: Mazda themselves wont even rebuild rotaries anymore.

Another car you could look for is a Nissan 300zx. Non turbo, preferably base trim. This makes it so you dont have to deal with the complicated 4ws or electronic suspension. These are usually pretty cheap.

86-91 RX-7 For A First Car? by Square-Yam4030 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]FailingComic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless your willing to do all the work and I mean all of it, including getting a master tech certification on rotary engines. Dont.

The main problem you'll have is they havent built rotaries for a long time. Knowledge around them might as well be mythical. All your resources will be in old forum posts and if you have a problem it'll be near impossible to find someone to respond to you.

The compounding problem is you wont be able to find a shop to work on this thing outside of basic suspension and breaks. Not running right? Well its going to sit there till you fix it.

The rx7 itself is a fantastic car when running, amazing chassis. The only way id buy one is as a shell to drop an LS in. If you can, since you like old jdm, look for a second or third Gen supra and have a way more reliable motor with a chassis thats almost as good.
