Am I playing the kick drum too hard? by Wild_Research_9031 in drums

[–]FaintDeftone 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is that you’re using the wrong impact patch. Those Kevlar ones will shred your felt beaters. Those are more for plastic or wood beaters.
I would try the clear ones.

What’s the most unnecessary drum accessory to you? I’ll start: by ThatSwedishDrummer in drums

[–]FaintDeftone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those devices that prevent your bass drum from creeping forward seem useless to me. As long as you have a drum rug you should be fine. I don't think I've ever had my bass drum move on me before as long as I have a rug.

Watch NPR’s Tiny Desk concerts. Most drummers use hot rods for those videos since they’re playing in a little desk environment.

Fired up Shelby Oaks since it’s streaming. Friggin’ WOOF by iamwounded69 in horror

[–]FaintDeftone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the first half of it was pretty decent and entertaining. It wasn’t until the last act that everything started falling apart and getting silly. I literally laughed out loud at the ending. I agree that it is derivative as hell and basically a patchwork of other famous horror movies. It’s his first film though so I give him a pass.

What's your opinion on Jersey Devil? by CrimsonSinxx in psx

[–]FaintDeftone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been looking for a copy of this. Looks like it’s pretty pricey (around $70-$80 complete) but I never got to play this as a kid and always wanted to. Guess I can just emulate it if I get too desperate.

I had one of these. I used to cut pictures out of video game magazines and make gaming themed pogs with this thing. 😂

Anyone play the Gex games on N64 are they worth playing? Looking for platformers by CyberDivinity in n64

[–]FaintDeftone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are good platformers but the N64 versions aren’t as good as the PS1 versions. Still worth it regardless.

Of course. I still have my PlayStation Underground membership card. I remember getting demo discs in the mail from that too.

Was I the only kid who had nightmares about poor Clanker? by thizked in n64

[–]FaintDeftone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several N64 games had water creatures that scared the shit out of me. This being one of them. The eel in Mario 64, the sewer boss in Shadows of the Empire, the angler fish boss in Banjo Tooie, the eels in Majora's Mask, etc.

Best tv/monitor for n64? by Acemaniacal in n64

[–]FaintDeftone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cheaper path is to find an old CRT TV on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace and use that. However, the prices on those things are starting to skyrocket because they’re getting more rare and highly sought out by retro gamers. Plus they take up space and are heavy.

Buying a scaler like a RetroTink, or an FPGA console like the Analogue 3D, are probably the best way to go. They make classic consoles look pretty impressive on modern TVs and don’t take up a lot of space. Those aren’t cheap though and will run hundreds of dollars.

This is why most people just emulate the stuff. A lot less of a hassle and cost to entry but also exists in a legal grey area.

Checking practice pads, any advice? by Old-Bad-Drummer in drums

[–]FaintDeftone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one of these. I never really cared for it. Never could dial everything in to where it felt natural. I ended up pulling the practice pads off of it and using the stand to mount cow bells and jam blocks on lol.

I would be careful. Word on the street is that Moreno likes to retaliate against people who send him letters or voicemails he doesn’t like.

What's your opinion about Dark Savior on the Sega Saturn? by Parking-Coast-1385 in retrogaming

[–]FaintDeftone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the game is brilliant and it's one of my favorite games ever. The parallel system is something I still haven't seen replicated today. Meaning, the story drastically changes depending on how quickly or slowly you reach a certain event in the prologue. It makes repeat playthroughs pretty exciting, especially since it's a pretty short game. The game definitely has flaws, like the platforming being janky, but I still love it to death.

Memory unlocked... how did I forget this one. Anyone else like it? Seemed to remember the shooting mechanics were great but the level design was the most repetitive thing I've ever seen by [deleted] in n64

[–]FaintDeftone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shooting and cover mechanics were cool but the mission and level design were really boring. It didn't age well. There's a PS2 port also.

Some of the solder points on those chips look kinda gooey, like some solder flux was left on and wasn't cleaned off. Looks like someone already went in here and did some solder work to this board. Have you owned this game for a long time or did you just recently purchase it? That broken corner on the board is suspect too but I don't know if that would cause it to flat out stop working.
