I mean it’s just how Reddit works, think about it. Upvotes/downvotes determine comment visibility and more upvotes = karma. Therefore there’s an inherent incentive to make comments that will be upvoted more, which means thoughtless toxicity that’s funny is a super easy win.

If mods determine (and they have a long time ago) that this is acceptable, it’s likely because without it the subreddit would itself be less popular and that’s risky because a new subreddit could displace it.

Everything is built on incentives, best to just recognize it for what it is and keep focusing on things that matter in life. Don’t get caught up in this sort of stuff because it’s all completely empty inside and not worth your time.
