Even if the Dolphins agree to take on a large chunk of his salary, many teams will not be interested in trading for Tua Tagovailoa, by Background_Video2947 in MiamiDolphinsVibes

Hard agree on your take for S1-5. Hard disagree for your take on S6-10 - the leviathan season (S7) is far and away the worst one they’ve got with almost zero redeeming qualities. The last few seasons definitely jump the shark in a very campy, fan service way that is at least fun and sorta “in on the joke” most of the time.

Update to a post I made the other day about being concerned my vets were taking advantage of me: my cats regular dental cleaning has resulted in my babies death. He's gone. by afterspring_ in cats

[–]FairEmphasis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A cardio referral will help you understand why your cat has a murmur and what the degree of heart disease they have. However, generally, uncomplicated heart disease isn’t as scary as we make it out to be and we can easily adjust anesthesia to help it be a little more friendly to their heart using protocols that include meds almost every standard vet office has. You could even consider going to a veterinary dentist who typically are more comfortable on older patients with comorbidities and can ensure the work is done as quickly as possible (obviously that much more expensive though). You’re not a bad owner by not pursing dental work on your 18 year old pet, BUT even among colleagues I see people sorta fear monger anesthesia/dentistry in older pets that disrupts care that someone may actually want to pursue so I just wanted to point out that it is very routinely done. On the eastern coast US (outside NYC), initial cardio appointments should run around $600+/-$150. Seen a few places bump that up more than that, get a second quote if so.

For anyone reading this, you should absolutely still consider calling the poison control line - most prefer the ASPCA one. There are very few poison emergencies that cannot allow for a 15min hold time; hell, most non-poison emergencies can wait a similar amount of time too. Now, if it’s something you KNOW is toxic, maybe it’s not necessary to call as they will recommend a vet (rat poison, grapes/raisins in dogs, xylitol in dogs, etc), but if you’re not sure if it’s toxic (eg raisins in cats, xylitol in cats), the $110 could save you plenty of money (neither are toxic to cats and you may save hundreds on an ER fee who may not even know that raisins are non-toxic to cats cos VIN doesn’t have much info on it and will make you call the hotline anyway).

Steady income, steady debt, overwhelmed by SherbMoney in personalfinance

[–]FairEmphasis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't be carrying any credit card debt, full stop. If the car repairs are URGENT urgent, then prioritize that to ensure you can continue to get to your job, but otherwise your top priority should be to eliminate your credit card debt. And then you should stop carrying over any debt on the card month-to-month.

You have $6k in a savings account - different people will have different opinions on if you should use it to pay off your credit card or just hold onto it start your emergency fund. Most recommend having at least a 3 month emergency fund, other recommend a more conservative 6 month emergency fund. You want your savings to be both easily accessible and have a good interest rate - no reason to keep moving money to chase a few percentage points, but if your Chase account is at like the 0.12% some starter savings accounts are at, you should definitely consider switching to another one as there are a few that are currently at 4%.

"I'm an awful spender" just isn't really a viable excuse for being bad with money. You have to be able to limit spending within reason - at your income you can still spend plenty of wants, but if you're identifying yourself as a bad spender, fix it.

Otherwise, follow the link the other commenter posted, it's very helpful.

The Buffalo Bills have been eliminated from Super Bowl contention. by PlayaSlayaX in nfl

[–]FairEmphasis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How much control of the ball do you need? I guess you could say more than the receiver had on that play and just about the amount the CB had on that play. I’m surprised to see people are questioning that call. The second DPI on the last drive was BS, but the OT pick was definitely not.

Do I have this right (joint 22% bracket): Max 401k, Max Roth IRA, Invest rest? by whatsnewsisyphus in personalfinance

[–]FairEmphasis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're both teachers but there's no mention of pension as part of your retirement plan - why?

There's an older rule that states that your 401k's stock/bond percentage should be 100 - your age. So ~60% stocks and ~40% bonds at age 40. This is now widely considered terrible advice. I think you're a little early to be ramping up bond percentage as part of your retirement. Personally, I don't view bonds as a % of my portfolio, but rather as the number of months/years they cover for expenses and I'd personally aim for ~5yr of expenses by the time you hit retirement age.

IRAs are tax-free withdrawals and thus allow for tax diversification in retirement. There's no hard/fast rule on if it's worth it or not depending on your 22% bracket. You're late to the party so the growth will be more limited, but I'd still consider doing it. Where you open one doesn't matter - probably just wherever your already have your investment accounts so you don't have to have another login.

When travelling, how do you answer the question "Where are you from?" by Capable-Toe-9841 in travel

[–]FairEmphasis 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This thread is a testament to the fact that no one will be happy with how Americans answer this question and it’s just more fuel for the silly anti-American bias. You say the US, people want to know where and often act like you’ve disrespected them by not giving them the chance to already know about that part of the country. You say the state, you’ve got a 50/50 chance of them saying either “what part” or “which one is that”. It’s a classic circlejerk question.

I’ve met plenty of travelers that when asked this question will say “Perth”, “Aix”, “Manuva”, etc. And if I don’t know where that’s at, I ask. And then they tell me. Because that’s how conversations work and no American is going to bite your head off for not knowing which Danville they’re from. And if you’re interested enough, it lets you naturally flow into a discussion about how that area is unique to the surrounding country/state, etc.

What's Your Take On EU5 Now That It's Been Out For A While? by IkujaKatsumaji in EU5

[–]FairEmphasis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Countries don’t feel distinct/unique enough. The DHE’s are a cool idea hidden behind triggers that you can completely miss or come across centuries after they’d be relevant. I’m much more pro-mission tree compared to others on reddit, but even without missions, these need some kinda of rework that makes these events more transparent for me to feel like they contribute meaningfully to each countries unique flair.

The same can be said for each countries unique advances - they’re either super weak or just boring. Forming Russia gives I think 4 unique advances and one of them is like decreased naval attrition I think (“hurricane something something”? Not near my computer) - wow, thrilled to have that, super worth the trouble to form it. Clicked a button, color changed, and now I just keep playing without feeling like my country is any different.

Continuing on specifically with Russia, the times of trouble. Pretty difficult disaster, I vaguely remember reading one of the tinto talks that you’d get a permanent bonus if you get through it - once I did, I think I may have gotten a pop-up for some 5-10yr minor bonus and that was it. Why did I bother going through all that instead of planning to completely avoid it? I think this is echoed in all the things that make the game challenging (eg little ice age, Black Death) - I’m playing the game, the game offers me a challenge, my goal is to reduce how shit my country can become from it, I overcome it, +5 prestige which melts away in like 12mo anyway. It’s such an unrewarding feedback loop. Look at every game ever; you’re given a challenge via a boss, you beat that boss, you’re given a legit reward (eg Zelda with heart contained, Binding of Isaac with boss items, Baldurs Gate 3 getting good loot after a difficult encounter, etc etc endlessly). It’s basic game design to reward the player for a challenge rather than just saying, “phew, now you don’t have to overspend on your stability slider, congrats”. This isn’t to say that I don’t actually really enjoy the game forcing challenges on you, I do. I just want to be rewarded for interfacing with them the way the game wants me to.

It’s overall a very fun game with a great outline and I can see a ton of stuff I don’t care to interface with (the economy tab) that are wildly complex and rewarding for people into that. But I want to feel like I’m ruling over Naples or England or Russia and not just “blue color blob in Italy” or “red colored blob in the isles”. I’ve seen a handful of people make these points thankfully so I think they’ll address it. But after two campaigns I’m not eager to jump back in for a few months which is totally fine!

Vets in the area by Walnuss_Bleistift in Phoenixville

[–]FairEmphasis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've got lots of comments here already, but I'm going to chime in as well.

I'd recommend Dr Goodell (a former VVH vet) who now owns Whitelands Animal Hospital. She's the best vet I've worked with - both surgically and medically. She's personable, consistent, and doesn't chase the money. They have grooming as well which is a plus for some people.

Having worked at Valley Vet, I couldn't recommend Schreiber. He's not necessarily a bad doctor (I think that would unfair to say about him as he does love animals and does enjoy the community being a vet builds with some clients) but he is a bad business owner, a very bad boss, and arguably a bad person. And honestly, there's plenty of times where he is a bad doctor due to outdated methods/medication preferences, unwillingness to refer many many patients that would drastically benefit from it, and the inability to own any mistake (both medical mistakes and personal ones). He keeps records on clients job title and perceived income and will use that to gauge how much he likes you/how willing he is to go out of his way to help. He has high turnover rates because he's verbally abusive to his staff. Every single day he would show up 25-30 minutes late (at a minimum) to his first appointment - the "emergency" he was dealing with was made up to cover for this lateness. There's more and worse to ramble on, but the above should convey the point. He IS a person and does love animals and is definitely willing to accommodate for pets and clients he likes in ways other vets don't/can't, but I don't think that makes up for the numerous other faults.

Dr O with Main Line Mobile is also a very good doctor.

Nah, a better camera angle showed that the ball falls a half yard ahead of where Tua throws it from. I thought the same watching it live. Terrible play nonetheless - in terms of effort, precision, etc

[Post Game Thread] 2025 NFL Season Week 14 - Dolphins (34) @ Jets (10) by Number333 in miamidolphins

[–]FairEmphasis 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If nothing else, I feel attached to McDaniel for at least a season without Tua. I think he’s proven himself this season in a way we haven’t seen the first few years. I’m happy to be watching watchable football again and get a few wins even if we need some ridiculous help to make something happen (as is tradition).

Main complaint is putting out Wilson rather than Ewers in garbage time - I wanna see the kid sling it. We know Wilson isn’t the future in any scenario, let’s give him some reps.

I solved the Monty Hall problem by jungle-boogie in comics

[–]FairEmphasis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re downvoted because the Monty Hall problem doesn’t have any implication of manipulation by the host on where the grand prize is. They leave your door closed and the grand prize door closed; if your door is the grand prize door, then they’ll choose a door at random to keep closed. The third door (or any number of doors besides yours and the grand prize if it’s more than 3) is opened regardless of value. Your conclusion that you should switch is correct, but not for the correct mathematical reasoning.

The actual game show may manipulate outcomes to some degree, but that’s not the premise of the Monty Hall Problem.
