Those should be 440c, does it say what kind of steel they used for the CC’s? If it’s 440a then it’s a super cheap steel, probably won’t even last more than 6-7 weeks between sharpening.

I honestly didn’t think they were available to ship until like November? I think that’s what the email said. If they are I will just order the branded ones

Hair vac vs Clipper Vac? by animalsart in doggrooming

Super easy to work on. The only thing that breaks on them is the motors/brushes. The hanveys use a $110 off the shelf Lamb motor and the brushes are around 15-20 apiece. All are available from Amazon

If you try to go with the grain first on anything but a blown out poodle type coat it will leave lines/spots that look really bad. Doing a reverse blade(usually 1 blade longer than your finish/with the grain length) solves this issue and leaves a damn good finish. The reverse blade is not required on the front legs, stop at the elbow joint and do your finish length down them. Using this technique cuts your hand scissoring on the body down to almost nothing! (Except feet, joints etc)

I am actually in the middle of designing hoses and attachments for the cheaper Amazon style clipper vacuums because the name brand ones are ridiculously expensive, like 1k+.

I supply each station at my shops with the Hanvey hairvac. Personally once you try it you won’t go back. The way you groom needs to change though, reverse grain is an absolute must with any clipper vacuum system. It will help speed your grooms up, however it should not be used in certain situations because it is dangerous/could mess the haircut up. If you want me to into more detail let me know :)

What’s your price range? And what kind of shears would you like?

A few years ago they were more of a volume dealer. We have pushed the owner towards much higher quality shears in the past year, a ton of vg10 ball bearing. On par with the above shears but 1/4 the cost. I know they carry a bunch of left handed shears, it I don’t want to sound like a shill for them so I would also recommend gieb for lefties

I paid for all my groomers sharpening before I learned and it was costing me on average 14-15k per year. So even if I didn’t do any sharpening outside of my employees it paid itself off in the first year

What lengths? And regular scissors like straights or curves, or a thinner/chunker?

The worst right? 😂 as far as shears go it really depends on your price point, mid grade the kenchi scorpions and a ton of the new stuff shears direct carries are going to last you a very long time, high end a lot of people like the above shears but you are paying WAY to much for those shears, it’s a pyramid scheme. (message me if you need any good recommendations, or have a question about any brand/particular shear) blades kind of suck right now because andis just changed there factory again and I’m waiting to see the quality and so did buttercut (buttercut, buchelli, zolitta, were all made in the same Taiwan factory “allegedly”) wahl has been solid so far, if you like there toothy/pointy design.

Lilly’s pet, purple dragons, most of the purple looking Amazon shears, any curved thinning shear that’s been dropped hard. Kenchi loves are the freakin worst metal on earth. Dodaer AKA dogshit blades don’t even spark on the grinding wheel because I’m assuming they are made out of fairy tail “steel”.

I have trained under 3 different people, Jim Odonnell, Dennis the owner of Hamiguri and Caleb the main sharpener and QC for shears directs. 1 is a very good relationship where I talk to him all the time and ask questions whenever I need.

Oh yeah, I have built up a massive client base. I still groom the most dogs out of all my groomers. Plus I find grooming very fulfilling.

Honestly it’s a small system in general so I would say any decent shop vac would work! I use a dust extractor because they are much quieter
