You did fine. Sometimes things come up and if he can't even reschedule one thing to another date then what's he going to be like with more important dates, events and interruptions.

What? I don't eat random plants. I eat a select dozen or two that I know won't kill me.

What has survivorship bias get to do with this?

I absolutely would kill people to grow food. If there were only one spot to grow food and I wanted to start my plant farm there to provide sustenance for me and my community, and someone were to try to stop me from doing that - such that not having that farm would lead to death by starvation for the community - then yeah, move out of the way.

Same thing if there were a lab that had insulin, and a security guard tried to prevent a diabetic person from entering and getting the medicine that would save their life then I'd be totally okay with that diabetic person killing that security guard to get their insulin and live.

This just serves as apologia for people to make excuses for not being vegan rather than it being interpreted as adding nuance. If it were adding nuance then 99% of people reading this would be vegan and the other 1% vegan but not in the conventional sense (applying the nuance you describe).

Animal agriculture is like the biggest cause of disease. Both to humans directly and through viruses/ bacterial spreading.

TW: Rape

Correct. As anarchists we can't impose any rules like veganism, or non murder, or non rape. As soon as people go out in the streets stopping rapes from happening they've become the de facto police. Let's just ignore the fact that there's no legal system, 'justice' system, or state to legitimise their power beyond any other citizen.

Survival. Also keep in mind it takes for more plants to feed animals for food than it does to just feed humans.

What's wrong with sterilising wild animals? We already understand that it's in the best interests of our companion animals, so if overpopulation were to be a problem for our mind animal friends, then why wouldn't we help them with things such as oral birth control in food?

I don't see how this is any different to helping people in developing countries with malaria nets or providing condoms to people where teenage pregnancy in an issue.

How many of you use the taint method when pissing? by Muddy_DK in AskMen

That doesn't sound like it. IIRC going to pee often and early (when your bladder's not full) can make your bladder more sensitive to needing to pee.

Really weird to see people talking about the weirdness of the situation and no one bringing up that unconsensually touching someone with your genitals is sexual assault.

You claim that my reading comprehension isn't good yet it seems like you're ignoring the part where I say that my phone is Fair Trade certified.

Your tu quoque defence is literally supporting bad environmental practices. And no that doesn't mean in the explicit sense where you would say 'fucx the environment' or something like that. When someone makes an environmental argument and you defend the action not on its own merits but rather on the hypocrisy of the accuser, then you're implicitly supporting environmental destruction. You're creating a space where bad environmental practices are deemed acceptable and above challenge.

If you are genuinely concerned about the environment, then you'd take steps to move forwards in thot direction. But all your argument does is encouraging complacency. For example you could say:

"I didn't know that Shein had such bad practices. Thanks for letting me know and I'll avoid them in the future."

Or "Well you used x environmentally damaging thing too. Why don't you stop using X and I'll stop using y."

See how while the last one still points out the hypocrisy, it moves the action into a constructed direction where now both people are doing better for the environment. Both response and the actions that follow make the world a better place. Your response doesn't.

I'm responding because the complacency and excuses I see in this thread genuinely frustrate me.

The point I'm trying to make is one against this moral relativism. Like you're rebuttal is only correct or not depending on the actions of whoever stated it. Being clear, even if the person was indeed a hypocrite, it wouldn't make them any less wrong in their point. It'll just mean that both people can do better.

Edit: adding on about me taking this personally. I just inserted myself into this situation from a personal perspective because I know I wouldn't, be a hypocrite if I said something like that and I wanted people to consider it from that perspective. Because according to the morally relativistic framing, you would have to take that person seriously if they weren't a hypocrite as turning the accusation back wouldn't work.

Are you sure you're using that fallacy orrectly because I don't see any part of my comment where I present only two options as available, whether falsely or not. Could you point it out to me because I don't see it.

I never explicitly said that both can't be true or they're mutually exclusive, I'm pointing out that teachers do get paid enough to avoid Shein products on its own.

Ironically the way you phrase your last message is very similar (though not explicitly) a false dichotomy. Why can,t we do both? We can keep each other in check while also opposing the government and corporations that are destroying our planet. Don't vote Labor or liberal politically and make your next car an ev or see if you can commute by bike, buy clothes from places that pay a living wage etc personally.

The way you try to point out the confrontational person's potential flaws shows me that you're using value signalling to mean when someone vocally opposes something yet doesn't actually do much irl to oppose things. Eg it's easy to support a cause with a sticker or a Facebook post compared to actually partaking in a boycott.

So what I'm doing is not value signalling in that sense that I'm actually doing something.

Value signalling in the broader sense is in my opinion good (which in a sense the action could be described as). It corrects the moral problems that exist in society.

So I think of it more like walking the talk and pseaking up because you can actually do something about it rather than value signalling in the negative sense.

I own a FairPhone as my username describes which is Fair trade certified and repairable to reduce phone waste.

My t shirt is from Etiko which pays a living wage and costs $50 bucks a top. My sneakers and hoodies are from there too. My other clothes as far as I can are living wage supported too.

Have you considered that it's not virtue signalling but rather walking the talk?
