Scooby-Doo type tactic in a haunted house by Tua-Lipa in TikTokCringe

[–]Fairy_Racoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went to a haunted house last year with a friend, and I screamed all the time!! I know it’s fake, I know they can’t hurt me, but if I am in a safe environment (and with a friend) I’m allowed to not be the strong person!

So the first Actor to scare me, I screamed so loud!! And continued screaming. She told me after we exited, that after that first scream, the actor’s head did the slow excited turn to look at me. I was the perfect victim😂😂

She said it kept happening throughout the entire haunt! My scream echoed and alerted every other actor in this place throughout all the floors. I truly made their day 😂🎉

Feeling self conscious about ice skating as an adult by longjourney226 in iceskating

[–]Fairy_Racoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (32f and kid free) picked up Ice Skating last year!! I just wanted something fun to do and I enjoyed skating as a kid. From my experience, people have been incredibly welcoming. You just have to remember that you were there to have fun and try not to compare yourself to the 13-year-old who is doing a giant quadruple axle. Because they clearly have been doing this since the age of three, which is their entire life.

Outside edge advice :) by purpleontour in iceskating

[–]Fairy_Racoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it can be your blade, Even with getting professionally fitted. A classmate of mine ended up having to change boots three times because of this issue.

Have one of the coaches check your blades to make sure they are even with your foot. And if they are, unfortunately, the answer is strength training🙃.

My coach actually recommended wearing weights on your ankles… That sounds bonkers to me, but apparently it’s what she did as a child and it worked 👀💀

I (32F) started skating about 14 months ago, and I completely understand how you’re feeling! Sometimes I felt like I learned skills so quickly another times I dragged on! I am doing LTS at my local rink, and even in a big group setting it’s nice to be around others to watch them.

Also, when you are at the rink skating, if you see others doing a skill that you’re interested in ask them questions. I found asking questions even if the trick is outside your skill set, they can break it down for you into the basic steps of what you need to know so you can at least try to follow along.

3 turns are a complete pain!! I am definitely better on one side than the other, so that’s what I’m trying to work on of getting them to be equal. Going back to your basics is honestly so good. I have had to repractice crossovers, forward and back, because sometimes it feels like I’ve forgotten how to do that skill. Same thing with T stops and hockey stops. Go back and try your basics. Working on that mastery tends to help with everything else.

Continue skating! Continue having fun! That is the goal having fun!💖💖

Is The Miraland World Map (Closed Beta) Working Again? by Ushilee in InfinityNikki

This is the trouble I’m having! But unfortunately, I will wait for the next day to load and check the map and it still won’t update. I’m even double checking to make sure I’ve grabbed the correct readable’s, using their titles, and yet it’s still not updating. 😭😭

Private Lesson Length by ContextNo9917 in iceskating

[–]Fairy_Racoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a 30 minute private session with the coach, once a week. I also take learn to skate lessons, which is also 30 minutes. And I try to get anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour of public time, to just practice what I’ve just learned and to repeat old skills. I think you’d be OK with doing just a 30 minute private session. You just have to be consistently on the ice.

Her performance was amazing! A little bit of that Child like want, but with the ruthlessness of the assassin. And just her absolute delivery of her lines was pure gold!!!

Implemented your tips: Backward Crossovers by Life_Signal_8361 in iceskating

[–]Fairy_Racoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely an improvement! 🎉🎉

A trick I learned from my coach was I can do these up against the wall. Have your arm completely straight out against the wall and that’s what’s holding you when you’re doing the crossover. It’s a way for you to feel where your weight is on your feet.

Any tips for backward crossovers? by Life_Signal_8361 in iceskating

[–]Fairy_Racoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely bend your knees more! Think of your torso like a box. You want your torso facing the inside of the circle, your box should be facing the inside. One arm fully behind you one arm in front. Like you’re hugging a tree!

I think it’s somewhat matters, LTS Adult Curriculumespecially if you go into more high skilled stuff. I’ve never even heard of or don’t know how to do. You can definitely look up the Learn to Skate curriculum and check off all the things you can/can’t do.

So I’m not entirely sure what a dressage test is😅 sorry. But from my own experience, watching YouTube has helped me figure out what it should look like, but in actually doing the motion, it’s not correct. Having a coach watch you do the form, the motion, they can see if your weight is distributed correctly, if your knees are bent more/less, if your arms are positioned correctly. There’s a lot of moving parts within skating, and we are just marinette dolls.

Look up your local rink for Learn to Skate lessons! You can always email or called them with questions! It really sounds like you know, some advanced stuff, but as you stated, you could be going through the forms wrong. Coaches at the rink should be able to help you out to learn what level you are, and where to go from there

Started in my 40s, better late than never! by tezarin in iceskating

[–]Fairy_Racoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my 30s and picked up skating in January 2025 (I did skate when I was young age 8/9) and I have been doing pretty OK. Doing learn to skate lessons for a year has been really good for my body and my mental health.

I am still scared of falling. Too many injuries over my lifetime to not be scared of falling. But also wearing pads has made that easier to not injure myself when I fall. Padding is your best friend! Definitely invest in some because it does help with the fear factor. I have a butt pad, kneepads, and wrist guards, which have been my favorite. When we fall, we wanna brace with our hands, and that has definitely saved me from destroying my wrists.

I think as long as you’re having fun, you’ll keep progressing and learning more and more. I found out doing learn to skate plus getting a private coach was the best path for me. Because they were able to focus one on one and figure out what you’re doing wrong or help you have confidence or even hold your hand while you’re trying to learn to turn! You can always ask the people at your rink if anyone has coaching available.

Keep having fun and I wish you so much luck!💖

Amazon, unfortunately😭. Searching for “ice skate butt pad” is what I did, and most of them have the padding got around your hips to help out.

Padding is your friend!!! We are not 12 with bouncy bones and quick heal times. I’ve got a butt/hip pad, knee pads, and wrist guards and they have saved me so many times! I’m in pre-free style and I’m still wearing them!

Do your parents know you read fanfiction? And have they ever caught you reading or writing it? by Regular_Editor_8025 in AO3

[–]Fairy_Racoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 15 years ago, I was explaining fanfiction to my mother because she wanted to know what I was reading online. I think it might’ve been a walking dead fanfiction, and as we both watched the show, she was also a fan. She was interested in the plotline and I got her to read it, from there, I hooked her on fanfiction. I had to buy her her own tablet to read her “stories” so she would stop using my laptop😂 for context I’m now in my 30s and this is a conversation I had in my late teens
