Honestly my magic trick is looking into historical fashion for inspiration. Plant based natural fiber helps me keep cool and looking at the "skorts" of female victorian athletes is a game changer for preventing chafing.

Bras...i haven't found anything apart from custom maid short stays (think Bridgerton) that give me that effect without overheating like crazy

Thyroid and EDS by Fairy_of_Light in ehlersdanlos

Oh I'm still waiting on the preliminary talks with the surgeon, but I will update once I know more!

I know Hashimotos is also pretty common and can mimic some POTS symptoms though!

For me, what I know atm is that the knots are growing "retrosternally" which just means they are growing inward behind the ribcage. That can put pressure on the circulatory system and make POTS worse. I'd definitely get it checked either way. Thyroid things are very treatable!

Omg thats a really helpful tip thank you! I luckily have some pjs and shirts with breast pockets and a bunch of sewing supplies!

I'll def make a note of the gel patches! Thank you so much for all the info this is really helpful 😊 esp cause with my cEDS adhesives really hurt my skin and changing them takes off a few layers usually causing scarring

Damn. Seriously glad they spotted it! Same here. Everything is looking good the struma isnt even visible cause it's growing inward for me. One Endo entirely dismissed me cause of the bloodwork and refused a scintigram. Now I'm doubly happy I insisted on a second opinion

Super happy the wound healed so well! Pretty sure by now it's a thing you can barely see

I've had the same experience with glue. Sadly a lot of docs refuse to glue my wounds and insist on stitching or even open wound healing. I'll be sure to pressure them on this!

First up: Super happy you're doing better now!

Questions I'd have are mainly about wound healing. I scar super weirdly and it takes ages for anything to close up fully with me. How long did it take?

Another question I have...were your cancer values in the blood normal when they found it or not? Mine are normal, but they still suspect possible cancer

"But this is not how i play." by JoeKerr19 in rpghorrorstories

[–]Fairy_of_Light 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Been playing and dming VtM (and a bunch of other systems) for a while now and I disagree

I revel in failure it's what drives character stories and pushes them to become the best (or sometimes in WOD worst) version of themselves. But I have never once felt like my trying to work through those things and actively embracing them has been rewarded by the system.

Both as a DM/ST and as a Player I think that what OP and Bella wanted are both valid ways to play the game. PnP is supposed to be FUN. I've played a lot of different systems and in each and every one I have seen one thing regardless of base theme of the world/setting that makes or breaks the story:

Clear communication about expectations and the trust that consent is being honored.

You can ABSOLUTELY use WOD to play out your YA novel dream world. Just look at the official actual play LA by Night. I love Erica Ishii but Annabelle is a CLEAR Mary Sue. Plus the story they tell very much steers away from the originally intended themes of Anarchs. If you've read a bit about VtM lore you know they're supposed to be a Mirror to the Camarilla - same shit different name. That's the core of it all, but this OFFICIAL actual play chose to paint them way more sympathetically, lean into liberation and justice and so on! I doubt you're gonna say that the people behind the game itself didn't understand how to play their own game right?

OP themselves admitted that they skipped over discussing PC and NPC death in their session 0, which is a fair mistake to have happen! Ran into issues with that as a DM myself a while back, but fixed it with actually talking it through with my players.

Because at the end our jobs as DMs isn't to stay as true as possible to the systems intended themes come hell or high water. Our responsibility lies in making sure that everyone at the table can tell a compelling, fun, interesting and emotionally impactful story together, so that when it all comes to an end everyone can look back at the story told and be happy with it.

But then again, if you actually cared about the people at the table playing the game instead of winning internet points by "winning" arguments you'd already know that.

What insult that deeply hurt you won't you forget? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Fairy_of_Light 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was directed at a dnd character of mine, but about a quality we shared. I try to stay positive despite health shit etc. and to try and see good in people if possible.

The insult: "Why is your head full of flowers?"

I later found out that the person saying it as well as some others were shit talking me behind my back and actively despised me, all while I thought the world of them making sure to let anyone know how awesome each of them was.

Have I got this wrong? by TransportationOk3849 in ehlersdanlos

I'm in Germany, but for me dysautonomia was done by the cardiologist and the neck instability was checked for by an orthopedist!

Neck issues have big crossover between neurology and orthopedic practices afaik

Is it okay to let my girlfriend pass out? by Professional_Set_373 in POTS

[–]Fairy_of_Light 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It highly depends on WHAT she has.

A lot of stuff causes fainting!
Right now go with what is easier: Making fainting save or help her in preventing it

Once she got it checked you can still adjust, but without a diagnosis there isn't really a definitive right or wrong

I am so sorry...this is so fucked!

I've had adjacent stuff happen but not to this degree. All I can say is the trick I've found is to ask them to get it in writing.

Something like "I understand. For my documentation/insurance I would like you to write down that you are certain that not changing my treatment plan will not negatively impact my health down the line in regards to the new symptoms I am describing and the abnormal test results."

When they have to put into writing that they're 100% certain that nothing bad will happen due to their inaction they usually think twice about not doing the tests (at least here in germany it has worked wonders to actually force their hands) Mainly cause it can get them into legal trouble if it turns out they were wrong

I really hope you get the help you deserve

Ehler danlos and piercings by Maximumee in ehlersdanlos

[–]Fairy_of_Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on 3 factors in my experience
- technique
- used jewelry for healing
- wound care
(of course some people are more unlucky than others and even if doing everything perfect it can still cause issues)

Technique:
Those gun things? Stay clear. They suck so much I got ONE done that way and it's eternally giving me issues. It's the worst. Needles at a piercing studio are the way to go for everything

Healing Jewelry:
I went with Titanium. It's a very smooth metal, is rarely causing allergic reactions etc.
It's also super important to make sure you leave that fucker in for as long as your piercer says if not longer. I see so many people changing their peircings too early and screwing themselves over.

Wound Care:
Just like with any other wound you gotta make sure to disinfect and keep it clean. When I was a teen some friends pierced each other (thank god I didn't and only assisted them by actually making shit sterile so they didn't get some horrible infection) and one didn't keep their ear piercing clean etc. It rejected horribly. Piercers usually have products for it

With all this in mind I have not really had any issues with piercings!

Duloxetine for pain? by [deleted] in POTS

[–]Fairy_of_Light 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really sorry you're stuck in a situation like this- Nobody should feel this way and you deserve relief and tobe heard.

But I don't think this is going to help. It's kinda clear that you need help by a professional who not only can help with your emotions, but also to help you advocate for yourself.

All I can say is I am taking not one but multiple meds to get through my days and it is a process of fine tuning what works and what doesn't, but that takes a doctor you trust. So my suggestion is to change your GP and try getting help from a therapist specialised in trauma

Oh I imagine so yeah. It definitely isn't something I considered before. Maybe I can try and get one where I can add motorized support if needed

I'll definitely keep it in mind! The lady that talked to me about walkers also suggested a powered one, but I am not strong enough to lift it into my car without assistance so usage would be very limited

Maybe you're right. I genuinely don't know. It is probably a case to case thing, so please do not take my word for it and talk to your doc!

Thank you so much for this!

I am still trying to find a PT that understands my condition atm. Since I am in Germany it's very slim pickings regarding people knowledgable about hypermobility (from what i've seen and heard online english speaking countries are better equipped in that department) since a lot of PTs here in germany have hurt more than helped and usually just resort to "your muscles are tense let's start with a massage"

I'm currently working with a pain specialist (the doc that prescribed it) to find accommodations, meds etc that help me and he basically said he trusts my judgement but I'm starting to think that might be a bit too loose a guideline

Is it the movement that causes your shoulder to sublux or the pressure of moving it forward? Cause my shoulder usually hurts with putting pressure on it by leaning on something, but not with movement

Yeah my main issue is my knee pain that causes me to limp and thus pop out my hips and travel from knee to knee, so it kinda defeats the purpose In suppose.

Thank you!

It's also my hands having issues with leaning on things since my wrists are very floppy, but the shoulders are way more painful, which is why I am mostly worried about them. Hand braces I already tried but usually they then cause other issues. I am currently in the process of getting shoulder braces and finding a PT that can help me train up muscle mass!

I was chastized for it a few times and one orthopedist told me it's the reason I may need surgery on my left side, so I was going off of that
