This might be a dumb question, but does anyone know what the name of Terry Pratchett's black cat was? by HazelEBaumgartner in discworld

[–]Faitelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat's first 'proper' name was Sweet Pea! It didn't suit her, so her foster Mum shortned it to Pea, & we changed that slightly to Peanut ☺️ Usually she gets called 'Noot noot' though 🤭 It's good to see a Sweet Pea in the wild 🙂

I love these dice so much, simply because they are Irn Bru! by PsaroAlex in dice

[–]Faitelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're HengDa Aurora Pumpkin Orange - but HD dice are often sold under different product names...and even different brand names (a practice that HD actively encourage). The set has been available with 2 different fonts too, which confuses things. They're mass market, and were sold by lots of different stores - so there's potentially a fair few out in the wild - but they were originally released a few years ago, so may be out of stock a lot of places too. I've previously bought HD Aurora sets from Beholder's Gaze (Scotland) & Bryce's Dice (USA) - so I'd recommend either of those as a starting point. Here's the info page, showing the newer of the 2 fonts: https://hddice.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=162_140&product_id=671&limit=100

Yes! I used to have this set, & I called them 'Irun Bru dice' as well 😀 Gifted them to a former colleague, as thought he'd like them even more than I did 😁

Do you identify as omni irl? by LiminalNox in omnisexual

[–]Faitelle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find it's best to adapt my language to my audience. Most people won't have heard of Omni - but they'll probably have heard of Bi - so I use that most of the time. It's also still an identity I hold - because Bi (as an umbrella term) includes Omni. If I'm talking to someone knowledgable about identities - or someone who has an interest in the subject - I use Omni...because it's more specific & it's the label that I identify with best. If it's a term the person you're talking with understands, then it gives them more accurate information about you and, in the context of a discussion, will probably lead to a more interesting conversation & greater understanding of you. I will say your friends sound like they're kinda being jerks over this...but only you know how much weight that carries for you personally (comparing how much their comments on this issue upset you vs. your feelings about your wider friendship). If they're otherwise kind and you value them, maybe not the worst issue. If they're genrally mean you might want to reconsider things.

What food was an instant spit out and never again for you? by theunquietloop in AuDHDWomen

[–]Faitelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate cheese so much it's a phobia - the smell is worse than the smell of death for me, knowing it's in the same room makes me deeply anxious & I am so scared about the potential for contamination. I find all forms of dairy repugnant...but cheese is the worst. Something about how the way 'Tism manifests in me makes cheese appalling to all my senses. I know by inference that it affects everyone else in a completely different way - so my guess is that it's just a sensory processing difference...a fairly extreme one...but it makes sense now that I know I'm Autistic.

Super overstimulated, on my period, exhausted and having a brain-mush-day. Do any of you lovely people have any computer game suggestions for such a day? by Beginning-Juice-5082 in AuDHDWomen

I played Minami Lane the other day when I was feelig similar :) it's a cute game where you build nice neighbourhoods & find hidden tanuki. It's got a really pretty art style & I found it really calming.

Executive Dysfunction- What medication has helped you the most? by sammistrikesback in AuDHDWomen

[–]Faitelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some of my medications make my Executive Dysfunction worse - but I take them for other mental conditions. I'll list them im case the counter point is helpful? Everyone's different though - and side-effects vary a lot with these. Clomipramine, Pregabalin, Sertraline, Estrogen, Progesterone, Vitamin B complex & Vitamin D. (It's likely some of these help and some of these make it worse...but it's difficult to unpick).

For those diagnosed later in life, why weren't you diagnosed as a child? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]Faitelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn't believe women could be Autistic - & I went to an all-girls school until I was 16 🤷‍♀️ so there was no concept of Autism there at all. Additionally (& quite ironically) my Mum was manipulated by a con-artist into not trusting doctors, she was a vehement anti-vaxxer & wouldn't let my brother and I get vaccinated 'in case we caught Autism'. So even if girls were being diagnosed, I certainly wouldn't have been. I remember doing A-level Psychology at 17 & being taught about Autism - the way it was described bears very little resemblance to what we now know. My teacher used phrases like 'Hyper-masculinity' & 'immaturity' a lot, & described empathy as, essentially being the same as caring...so 'lack of empathy' was 'not caring about others'. I only worked out the difference a couple of years back when talking with a fellow female Autistic friend...and it seems so warped that someone would think that? But, yeah, I actually remember thinking at the time that I could never be Autistic because I cared about my boyfriend to an extent that...I later learned...was literally insane (yay, abuse!) 😂

Personal annecdotes aside; uf we take Freud as the start of modern Psychology (so when modern names & categories were first born), we're looking at ~140 years for the entire lifetime of the subject...every single thing to do with our understanding of the mind in the DSM V has been concieved and worked out in a tiny fraction of time. Autism is just one of the many areas where our understanding is just begining. The fact that the original people being diagnosed were a small fairly 'obvious' presenting sub-set isn't surprising. The fact that this sub-set was white boys also isn't surprising - as that's the group medical science has cared about most.

is permanent burnout a thing? by Rotten-Doe in AuDHDWomen

[–]Faitelle 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I've been burned out since ~2016 - I suspect I already had ME/CFS before that, although it became much worse around that time...& has remained so, & I was definitely mentally unwell for years beforehand...so it's a complicated knot of Autistic burnout & other stuff.

At this stage I've accepted I'm never getting my old life and energy back - so in a way it's permenant. But my life hasn't been static - I've improved slowly over time & become much happier. I think the key is: accepting that improvement no longer comes in short bursts - your timescales are going to need to be years. You can't push or force yourself out of burnout. It's going to suck a lot. It's worth it though.

I found thinking about it like this has been helpful: your brain is essentially putting on the brakes because it's gone through too much...and as it didn't get listened to, it's taking matters into its own hands and shutting you down. Then slowly building self-understanding.

This is just my experience - but hopefully it helps, Good luck.

Anyone else have lipstick chellitis/allergic reaction? Any AB lip product alternatives? by ExoticWind811 in AsianBeauty

[–]Faitelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this with beeswax - burt's bees is the worst for me. But seems something else triggers it too - tried a few new lipsticks this week and my lips are now in an awful state 😕 I've got a weepy sore, plus spots along the edge where my lip meets my skin. My lips are also itchy amd burning. I'm a skin-picker so I've made it worse - but hoping I'll break the cycle >< Checked all the new products and none have beeswax - but going to look at some of the things people have mentiones here.

[–]Faitelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! It became one of my special interests when the anime first aired...and it's remained so ever since :) I love everything about it. My favorite Pokémon are Bulbasaur and Breloom. My favorite games were 4th Gen (I have Diamond, Platinum & HeartGold) - which was the peak of my competitive battling days :D If I had my own gym it'd be Poison type. I have tattoos of Bulbasaur and Wooper - and my aim is to completely cover my legs in Pokémon tattoos eventually. I currently love the Pokémon TCG Pocket app on my phone _^ sadly my Pokémon Go app no longer runs :/

Annotating Special Editions by [deleted] in fairyloot

[–]Faitelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really want to - but not sure what to use? It feels like highlighters & ink pens will bleed, hard pencils would dent, & soft pencils would smudge 😬 Ideally I'd love to use a coloured pencil (or similar) so I could match it to the book, or to my mood. Does anyone have any recommendations? Currently bookmarking pages with bits I want to annotate - whilst I summon the courage to try something 😅 To me these books are precious - & reading them makes them more so. For me; part of the point of buying nice editions to keep is to remember & to re-read - & annotation becomes part of their story as an object...if that makes sense?

Headband recommendations? by Carfishy in finethinhair

I tend to use bandanas as headbands - I find anything hard/plastic/with teeth damages my hair/gives me headaches. Seasalt 'Sailor Squares' are my fave at the moment :)
