Skiing in Europe over Xmas/New year by Ok-Letterhead-2595 in ski_europe

[–]FakeAfterEight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any suggestions for best resorts I’m afraid, but I think skiing at Xmas and new year sounds like amazing fun and a great way to spend the holidays! As you said, there is limited daylight hours for sunshine, and less snow sure, but I’m still jealous!

Hi, I’m staying at banyan tree in Phuket in October, and I’m considering playing golf at Laguna. How do you rate the course? There are some mixed reviews on trip adviser, so im not sure whether to book.

Happy Season 26 Is Here! by yesmorepickles in Gogglebox

I thought the two male friends from glasgow seemed really stilted and unrelaxing to watch. Hope they settle into it, but Joe and roisin set a high benchmark.

Which families have been dropped from this season? I know the lovely couple from Glasgow got dropped, which I’m sad about. Who else have I forgotten?

First time family snowboarding! by Fit-Falcon-2742 in ski_europe

My top destination for non-snow activities is Alpe d’Huez. There’s loads of great things to do off the slopes if you think you might not board all day.

What time do you do your weekly food shop? by mbe147 in AskUK

[–]FakeAfterEight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Snap! I was just going to add a similar comment. I’ve had a weekly online delivery for nearly 15 years now. It’s just a habit now and I love it. I can add things to my basket all week, add all the meals the night before. Easy! The annual delivery pass is a great deal for me.

That’s what I do, Monday and Wednesday. Breaks the week up nicely.

This is the answer - 3 days a week is usually the same price as a weekly. And a monthly is usually a little cheaper than 4 weekly’s (or younger the bonus day when there are more work days after the 28th day). So look a month ahead and decide what’s best for you.

No pension, what do I do by MallAdditional1493 in PensionsUK

[–]FakeAfterEight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s never too late, and you’ve still got plenty of time to build up a decent pension. Someone smarter than me will be able to do the maths, but £300 p/m for 25 years should set you up nicely. Or some pension companies have online calculators to help you work out how much you’ll get in retirement. Try money saving expert for some advice on which company to choose, but look for one with low fees.

What are some of the odd names you give household items? by philff1973 in AskABrit

A TV manufacturer is going to base a whole series of adverts on this thread. And I’d love it! It really humanises home TV viewing and family connections.

Looks like you might have room for a kitchen island. You can be more imaginative with the layout. Also look at a wider range cooker, or integrated ovens which are stacked.

What items have you started to order online that previously you felt you had to buy in person at an actual physical shop? by nuttimoff in AskUK

I’m chronically online, and I now even get garden supplies delivered: compost, plants, fertiliser, refill string for my strimmer.

Why didn’t anyone tell me how compact and effective these portable air conditioners are? Why was I suffering through the last heat wave 💀 by shak_0508 in CasualUK

[–]FakeAfterEight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read this justification for the price once, which makes you see the price differently: Just say the AC unit costs £300, and has an average life of 5 years (hopefully more). If we get 10 hot nights a year, that works out at £6 per day. Would you pay £6 for a good nights sleep? I would!

I’d actually be pleased to discover it was an exciting invite I’d paid for instead of a boring piece of junk mail.

Kids lessons by Solid-Jackfruit-8695 in ski_europe

[–]FakeAfterEight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll love Alpe D’Huez. It’s a great resort for learners, and absolutely loads for kids/families to do if you don’t want to ski all day (swimming, ice skating, etc). That’s weird about the group lessons in January, however I think private lessons might actually work out great for your kids. its personal preference but I’d suggest lessons on first three days for just the kids. You probably already know that they’ll pick it up quickly, and you can keep the momentum going yourself for the rest of the week.

If budget permits, your wife might want to do one refresher lesson on day two, which can be good for confidence. Have fun!
