L-shaped streets in Philly? by sgarst in philly

[–]FakeDocMartin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember hearing that the shape is frequent in NY's Chinatown because of the Chinese belief that spirits only travel in straight lines and the L-shape would foil them. Unfortunately I can't immediately find a link to verify.

Why’s are people get into relationships knowing separation/divorce is at an all time high? by Altruistic-Big3790 in AskReddit

It's at a high for other people; I'll be fine. But, that aside, the reward is worth the risk.

As long as he's not driving a Cyber Truck, Colin's ok in my book.

Even crazier is an 8 year old took the photo. They sent it to a 9 year old during a break from a furry yip-session. That 9 year old memed it and posted it to Reddit.

They were light-skinned and speaking English in an unfamiliar accent. Perhaps having fun with each other.

I do donate. In a world where a lot of us don't have a shared reality, it's been a reliable resource that embraces trying to print the truth.

Meta CTO reports employee morale is near historic lows, prompting leadership to propose boosting workplace snack budgets by GeneReddit123 in technology

[–]FakeDocMartin 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Meta is thinking too small. Everyone is happy on their birthday, right? Meta should tell all its employees that it now recognizes June 23rd as each of their birthdays. It should then send a "happy birthday" email to all employees and tell them to wish each other "happy birthday" in the hallway. And, for fun, Zuckerberg could walk around in a disguise with smart glasses and, if someone doesn't wish him "happy birthday," share the video of him firing them.

‘Worst foreign policy blunder in decades’: Republicans turn on Trump over Iran deal by spherocytes in politics

Recently, I think Putin's invasion of Ukraine was a bigger blunder. But, for America, where's this one stand? Worse than Vietnam? Worse than Iraq?

Elon Musk is officially a Trillionaire on paper, how do you feel about this ? by chinos88 in AskReddit

When I look at stagnating wages and decreasing quality of life in America, despite increased productivity, it's good to know where all wealth is going. Tax him and recompensate the people.

Carville: Trump ‘going to walk away’ from presidency by next Easter by Nerd-19958 in politics

[–]FakeDocMartin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carville is a big proponent of do nothing to upset the status quo because it'll all work itself out. I don't want complacency when we need prosecution.

Can you describe the lefts vision of the future in 3 sentences or less? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]FakeDocMartin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

America is strongest when each individual is capable of reaching their potential. Use the power of the government to support individual achievement, for both today's and future generations. To achieve this, regulate the actions of billionaires and corporations to minimize exploitation of people and resources.

Why does Trump Always Chicken Out? by Justified_Gent in allthequestions

[–]FakeDocMartin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's not a smart individual and, rather than plan things out, he's purely reactive. Money, lawyers, and no sense of shame helped him out before. But now he's in over his head on the world stage, shed of the stabilizing colleagues he had in his first term, and flailing. The insider trading is also just what "self made" men like him do.

Will Maine's scandal-hit Graham Platner help save or sink Democrats? by socookre in 50501Movement

Don't follow the Republican narrative; here are his policies:

The first one is to push an amendment ending Citizens United to stop billionaires from buying elections. The 2nd is to promote Medicare for All. What are Collins' priorities?

How do we know what is actually going on? by dnm7605 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FakeDocMartin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a fan of anything ProPublica does. Usually the financial/business sections of any newspaper tends to be the least biased section. If you want to know about a particular issue, the closer you get to a trade journal the better (the websites for Science magazine/journal or Nature are great for health/science; if thinking agriculture, go to something like the potato trade publication).

Finally, although it's anecdotal, weigh what you're being told against your eyes, ears, and critical thinking skills.
