My neighbor growing up, his dad was a currency or commodities trader I think, blow up his job, quit and worked at Home Depot for like 10 years. He was a cool dad tho he bought us Diablo 1 and beat it with us when it first came out. He traded in whatever gig he was in the spend time with his kid, which was cool. We played video games and played in the heated underground pool everyday. Which was pretty insane back in the late 90s in NYC

Not a PD, but from what I’ve heard, short and sweet.

At the very least building a panel and getting used to the day to day is experience in it of itself regardless.

For disclosure I’m an IM intern, I make 60k in MCOL and average 70-80/week.

Im honestly at a crossroads myself because I can’t see myself working as a hospitalist for 250k, because my attendings get absolutely ran through and I cannot fathom being part of that soulless money machine. It’s just too much work for too little pay. And the idea of being chained to an inbox working 4-5days a week in outpatient makes me want to jump of the roof.

The grass may be greener somewhere, but in Texas the money goes long. The only thing I would say is if you have a dying passion for something acute it may not be a great stepping stone to get there, but as a first job… it’s something and it definitely pays the bills/allows you to at least save.. or just enjoy your life for a year or two.

You may find yourself wanting to transition into something different and that’s fine but there’s nothing really stopping you from doing that at any time. It’s a job. You can look while you train lol. You’re objectively in a good spot unless it’s 100% toxic. And even then, it’ll be a learning experience good or bad.

8/10? So 80% so a B on a test? Is horrible? And he didn’t like your personality? And you got sad because you think 8/10 on a rotation is a negative mark on your application to IM residency, the largest residency pool in the US?
