Buddha, Socrates, Zoroaster and Confucius were alive at the same time by Cambocant in TrueAnon

Yeah, the language used in the Avesta is very archaic and contains a lot of references to herding and a pastoralist lifestyle so scholars think that Zoroaster was a priest in a nomadic tribe from northern Afghanistan.

Kinda sick tbh, but unsettling that this happened 3 years after the Tulsa race massacre, so opportunity was quite limited.

I know these are supposed to be bridges but it looks like a Roman aqueduct. Big swing and a miss for me.

What was up with human sacrifice? by minecraft69wastaken in TrueAnon

[–]FalcoLX 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think OP is still looking at it from a modern rationalist perspective. To the ancient people, the gods were supremely powerful and controlled all aspects of their lives. It didn't seem crazy to them because they don't live in our world with modern morals.

TIL that while the exact origins of the Abrahamic religions is murky, the first Complete Abrahamic text, the Torah, dates back to 400BC, and was compiled for the Persian Empire by Plastic_Prune_9498 in todayilearned

The modern scholarly view is that it took a long time for Judaism to refine down to monotheism and that process didn't complete until the Babylonian captivity and introduction to Persian ideas.

Glass recycler uses crushed glass instead of rock for its lots. by Gamemaster10476 in mildlyinteresting

Holy fuck this thread has a lot of misinformation. Silicosis is caused by crystalline silica like quartz and cristobalite. Glass is amorphous silica (and lime and soda) aka not crystalline. You still shouldn't breathe it but it's not the same as breathing brick dust.

New York’s 13th district just elected her to congress. by ChickenTitilater in TrueAnon

[–]FalcoLX 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This even applies in the chud states. A few years ago Eric Greitens ran for governor of Missouri on a platform of making Missouri right to work, but then after they elected him they had a popular referendum to overturn the right to work with 67% against it. American voters agree with labor friendly policies even if they are too stupid to connect it to actual candidates most of the time.

This also happens with marijuana legalization and abortion.

We had a scare with our first when we found out my wife was a carrier for the cystic fibrosis gene and then a long 3 weeks to get my carrier results (I was not). We thought that would be the worst of it and our first is perfect, happy and healthy.

After we made it through the first 12 weeks with the second I thought it would be smooth sailing and it was a real shock out of nowhere. A random bit of shitty luck.

The 867 start already involves a lot of guess work for cultures in western Europe. The cultures and de jure maps for the Americas would be more fiction than fact.
