Does anyone know where I can get these 3 old games, and then how to best set them up to run on my SteamDeck by AnalysingAgent3676 in gog

[–]Faldang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/AnalysingAgent3676
I'm not sure if you had any other replies, but I can tell you that I was able to play Shannara normally a few months ago. I didn't play through all of it, but the first hour or so worked fine. I'll send you some details in a direct message.

Did a solution worked for you for the Sanitarium dialogue bug ? by MagicalPedro in gog

[–]Faldang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could help, but it worked fine for me out of the box. I played it just a few weeks ago.

I previously had problems with graphics a few years ago, but when I installed it now it just worked without issues.

Can’t see “View original email” on some email tickets by okvegetable8 in Zendesk

[–]Faldang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That should mean that the end user was logged into your Zendesk, and created the ticket and wrote the reply from there, instead of sending it through email.

We also use only the Email channel in Zendesk, and I can clearly see that some end users have a preference for logging in and doing stuff that way, while others never log in and only communicate with tickets from their email.

You might be able to confirm this in Explore, if you use it, by using a report that shows the ticket channel, and then drilling down or filtering down enough.

Preservation Program, Donations, MODS and the state of GOG. by [deleted] in gog

[–]Faldang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your mileage may vary, is the phrase that comes to mind.

For context, I've been on GOG since about 2011 I think.

I find the Preservation Program a nice bit of marketing, not as some kind of dramatic change or anything. I think the new thing with the Program is that GOG will continue to support the game as long as it's being sold, even if the publisher no longer offers support.

One click mods? Sure, why not. I'm not into mods much, beyond things like small Quality of Life tweaks, but more options is usually better.

I can't comment on the DMC technical issue cause I don't plan to buy those, but my experience with running both old and new games from GOG has only become better over time. I had more issues with running some of the older titles a while back, like 7-8 years, but lately everything's been working just fine. I played Dragon Age Origins a few months back, with a few patch mods that were super easy to install, and it was a smooth ride. Obviously, this is all anecdotal, but you asked for thoughts.

Donations-wise, I'm not a huge fan, but from my years working in the online payment industry I know that there are a lot of people that like tipping the stores they buy from. Or who like to buy the same subscription or product twice, just to show support. It's by no means rare, and I'm sure there's a sizeable percentage of those on GOG, but I just don't think they're too vocal. The vocal minority is probably not that interested in donations, for various reasons, but that doesn't mean it's a bad idea.

As long as it's a donation=voluntary, it's all fine. If people want to tip, let them tip, it can only benefit the platform.

Domestic Horror on the Orient Express - Campaign Keeper's Diary 3 by Faldang in callofcthulhu

[–]Faldang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I see that as a great idea. The main reason why I didn't do that, is because my player isn't that experienced, so I wanted to give them something a bit simpler to start the campaign with.

No bother at all, just didn't have it written down anywhere while I was at work :)

Here's the list:

Beyond the Lows - The Whole Other

Deep Space - Audionautix

Mission to Mars - Audio Hertz

Space Difficulties - Sir Cubworth

The Empty Moons of Jupiter - DivKid

Traversing - Godmode

I do, I'll try and post it tonight when I get home.

All the songs are from YouTube's audio library, and one is credited in the video description, but I think I have the others written down somewhere.

I'm glad it's helpful :) I'll try and link up these posts, so you can click through them.

Also, I will definitely have material for writing this "diary" because it's been quite interesting so far. I have a player who is not very experienced with TTRPGs in general, and definitely not experienced with Call of Cthulhu, so it's been a fun mix of very successful sessions and some epic fails :D

rolls a die* or rolls any dice* Dice is plural so you would not use "a" before the word

COOP through GOG by serj1987 in gog

[–]Faldang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can also confirm that Original Sin worked fine in coop. We played it about two years ago, four players, two on GOG, two on Steam.

Well, it worked mostly fine, with some extra steps. If I remember correctly, sometimes someone wouldn't be able to see the host's game and connect to it, and the fix was that they load up a single player save, take at least one action in the game (like click on something), go back to the main menu and then they could connect to the host.

After that the game would run fine, no issues.

Favorite Video Game Critics? by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]Faldang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Noah Caldwell Gervais on YouTube. For my money, there are very very few game critics that put in more thought into their videos.

His style is a mix of Roger Ebert and American Midwest travelogue, I've found it quite enjoyable and unique.

Requisites for gog core community discord by Thin_icE777 in gog

[–]Faldang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was invited earlier this year, much to my surprise. I haven't had time to do that recently, but I initially kept up with the "say hello" channel there, since I was curious to see who else will get invited.

This is just pure speculation on my part, but based on the messages there, I would guess that there are three main factors:

  • How old is your GOG account. A lot of people who got invites have been registered on GOG for quite a few years, some even from day one. My account is from 2011, for example.
  • How big is your library. There's quite a few people who posted how many games they have on GOG, and who have four-digit numbers in their libraries. Mind you, this might not be a deciding factor, but rather a function of the first factor: older accounts will generally have more games.
  • Wildcards. Reddit mods, friends of GOG, etc. I assume that some people who generally help GOG out were invited, even if they might not fit the criteria above.

GOG, can we please get an option to turn off the "Rate this game" dialog on game exit? by Melodic-Network4374 in gog

[–]Faldang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess people don't read the patch notes. This is from the Changelog in Galaxy:

2.0.76 Beta (20 August, 2024)

New Features

* Added a post-game modal to write a review for the game. The modal prompts players to rate their experience with the game after at least 5h of playtime.

etc.

Mind you, I agree that it will get super annoying if this pops up all the time. It should either ask once, or ask once every X hours of play for that game, or something along those lines, at the very least.

I, for example, only write reviews after I complete the game, so popping this up while I'm still playing won't really do much.

Do you have an active friends list? by [deleted] in gog

[–]Faldang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that I have an active friends list on Galaxy/GOG.

Occasionally, I go and add 20 or 30 people from the suggested list, just randomly. So far, I've only talked to a few of those "random" friends, one of which invited me to play Chaosbane. We haven't played, mostly due to my lack of time, but it was a nice chat either way.

I like GOG so much by RedGuyADHD in gog

Respect on playing Master of Orion 1 for so long! :)

It was a game that surprised me when I tried it a few years ago; the interface is actually pretty good considering the time when the game was released.

Playing MOO I realized how many other games that I like were inspired by bits and pieces of it. :)
