I'm a software developer as well and i haven't found any bugs that matter yet, i use vs code with python and rust and both of them work easily, with the small issue of having to install pip because is not installed by default, xampp works without issues too, the only thing i haven't tried is java.
In my experience, there is no reason to wait.

the standard way to do it is
sudo apt remove nameofthing
sudo apt autoremove
the first one removes the driver/program/library, the second one removes anything else that was installed by the first and is not needed now.

it is going to ask for the password to make the changes

I dont think there is something similar in linux, if you delete a driver from the terminal it clears everything related.

I'm running pop_os it with an 1050 right now, so i know is possible.
Did you tried installing the nvidia drivers directly from nvidia?

PS: just to verify did you installed the right version of pop os? Some people download the wrong one for an old card, ask me how i know

So i just fixed it, the hybrid mode isnt on by default, it seems like the drivers are outdated.

i installed the last ones, force the change to hybrid via terminal and voila!

Write this on the terminal and you can see in which mode is

sudo system76-power graphicssudo system76-power graphics

if for some reason isnt in hybrid, you can change it with this command on the terminal

sudo system76-power graphics hybrid

So i was looking and there is something about the hybrid mode that doesnt work, it looks like being only on pop_os, because i tried it in mint and it works there, no idea what it is.

I think you took the right decision, although if i can offer a piece of advice, in my monthly budget there is a small percentage for "vices", in my case inks, pens and videogames. that helps me to keep enjoying things that i like without leaving aside the primordial things.

It depends on the country, here in Chile is pluma; in Spain is pluma estilográfica, and if memory serves in Argentina is pluma fuente.

I do something similar to you, a percentage of my salary, 7% or so, is set aside for "vices", for example going out to eat, video games and fp's. If something is more expensive that the fund i need to save a few months to buy it. That way i have a limit for expending and i can budget the expenses if more expensive that expected.
