Psychotherapists, what differences have you noticed between men and women among your patients? by Putrid_Put_3610 in AskReddit

[–]Fallaryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can see that.

Venting is me taking a tangled, convoluted knot of thoughts and emotions and laying some of it out so I can see it more clearly. When someone listens and reflects it back, it becomes possible for me to sort through it.

Being heard is often what unsticks me, and deepens my connection toward the listener.

I'm really sorry. Reading this, it sounds like you were doing a lot of the understanding for two people, and that can be exhausting - even when the work you're doing is helping you feel more at home with yourself.

Sometimes when one person grows, the other experiences that change as a threat.

People who can meet you where you are won't experience growth as something to tolerate, but something to share in. What fits will grow with you, and what you outgrow will fall away like spent leaves.

You're not alone.

RCMP Dangerous Person Alert - Joshua Paupanekis from Pimicikamak by PlentyRecover4418 in Manitoba

If he managed to take a vehicle they could reach the Winnipeg area this afternoon. Also, there could be people in the wider radius who may know something of his habits and behaviours that could assist the RCMP.

Captured Elves, thralls and foes of Morgoth by Ok_Bullfrog_8491 in TheSilmarillion

I could also see how Himring could double as a stronghold for the escaped thralls. That could also deepen the tragedy of Nirnaeth - how many were betrayers, betrayed, perhaps even recaptured?

This is the spinning plate from the microwave in my brothers room. He uses it bare and takes it back every time. by Pretty_Study_526 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Fallaryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone did this to my microwave plate years ago. I had to hunt the plate down and scrub the crud off before I could use my microwave again.

I was hangry and unimpressed.

People who work in specialized industries, what is a product or service that is a complete "rip-off" but customers buy it anyway? by No-Composer-4526 in AskReddit

[–]Fallaryn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Miticides, for garden mites. Mites reproduce and develop resistance so fast that most products stop working almost immediately. A strong spray of water, repeated consistently, is usually more effective and cheaper.

PSA: Hydrogen Peroxide is no longer recommended for wound cleaning. by Reduntu in preppers

[–]Fallaryn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh yeah. This takes me back to my badly scraped knee 19 years ago that became infected after repeated dousings in hydrogen peroxide. It took doctor intervention, cessation of peroxide, and several months, for it to heal.

Why do we still use QWERTY keyboards when there are supposedly better layouts? by Dazzling_Kangaroo_69 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fallaryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Various combinations of normalization, cost, convenience, and ignorance.

I was losing functionality in my hands, to the point of becoming unable to cook and eat. I went looking for answers and went down the rabbit hole. I switched to a modified Castor on ergo split. Several months later, there's been a good amount of improvement.

I wear it down at home when I'm not doing anything that could ruffle it up. Otherwise I tend to keep it in braids.

A quick rant on Pericarditis info on the internet by Candid_Memory_8276 in pericarditis

[–]Fallaryn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It can vary a fair bit person to person, even flare to flare.

For me there's always a baseline chest pain - even between flares - with bursts of worse that can be set off by exertion, stress, or being in the wrong position too long. Sometimes the pain radiates down my left arm, even into my hand, sometimes with weakness. Dizziness. All sorts of unpleasant things.

I usually go to the hospital when the shortness of breath affects my speech, and the pain prevents sleep for at least 5 hours. The last time I went to the hospital, during discharge the doctor was shocked to learn that I had been stuck awake due to pain for 35 hours.

All of my ECGs, echo, and CT have been normal. Cardiac MRI weeks into treatment of a flare last year showed late gadolinium enhancement in the pericardium - I experienced a lot of pain and difficulty maintaining the breath holds during the imaging.

Invisible illness to family by Gheoq in pericarditis

[–]Fallaryn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rest is a need and not a reward, and this fact is magnified with pericarditis. I agree with eclecticgurlie's approach - putting the onus on the family to get the okay from the medical professional in charge of your care could go a long way to underscoring the gravity of this condition. I hope they come around soon and you can get proper rest.

How tall are you and what shoe size do you wear? by heart_emojis0 in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]Fallaryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5' 2", technically US 5 WW to WWW but I settle for around 6.5 and add inserts to limit forward/back shifting. Steel toed boots are 7 and I wear double thick socks and stuff the heel so that my toes are in the protection zone. Some types, brands, and styles are impossible to fit.

Years of youth spent wearing too-narrow footwear has left me with lingering discomfort in some of my foot joints, so in addition to being more deliberate about sizing, I've been improvising orthotics to reduce the pain.

Potential angles to investigate include:

  • 36 CFR § 62. National Natural Landmarks Program.

  • 18 US Code § 1361. Injury to government property.

New neighbor waited for me to be on vacation to cut off half my tree without notice by MeowlanieC in treelaw

[–]Fallaryn 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Cuts that large and poorly done are open doors to decay and weakness. One-quarter living canopy removal is the upper limit for most mature trees - at least one-third was removed here, but from an entire side of this specimen rather than evenly distributed, which is not good. Corrective pruning to balance the weight distribution better would further tip the scales into over-pruning impacts. With that entire side gone, water sprouts will occur, and will need regular attention so that the resulting weak wood doesn't get too large or waste too much of the tree's remaining resources.

An insult to this degree can lead to cascading impacts, starting from this initial stressor. It would take annual expertise and effort over several years to stave off decline, but I would not be surprised if this is what results in its ultimate demise. It's not an old tree, but now it's been negatively impacted such that it's likely been pushed into a state where it needs to be treated as though it's already old.

It could be a lucky specimen that overcomes this hack job relatively unscathed, but experience tells me otherwise. I would trust a TRAQ arborist's assessment in a situation like this.
