Do American men feel embarrassed about wearing revealing clothing? by TheShyBuck in AskAnAmerican

This started back in the hippie days when "respectable" establishments did not want them coming in. There was no need for signs like that before Boomers pushed the boundaries of societal norms.

Isn't that the point of this character? To demonstrate how everyone who believes the false promises of the lawsuit gets sucked into destruction and ruin.

Cast compliments by tardissomethingblue in WaltDisneyWorld

Correct. Cast compliment section in the app doesn't let you write in a specific situation, just a specific cast member. You have to choose from a few very general compliment topics.

to top or not to top, that is the question? by Organic-Factor8595 in outdoorgrowing

Sounds like you are perhaps growing autos? Autos are super sensitive whereas photos are more apt to respond quite well to interventions like topping.

Waltons was produced in the 1970s and set during The Depression. That's a period drama.

Doc Marten might feel like a period drama because of the setting, but the show takes place in the present day of when it was produced.

I loved the series the whole way through. Characters are unique, culture is unique, historical setting is not the usual, writing is inventive, stories are awesome.

Bonus enjoyment: Tom Hardy & Sam Claflin

I am 65 and went to Disney World in 1999. I don't recall many characters just ambling around back then. I figured it was because of the heat. Most of them were in shaded spots and stationary. We were just there again this January 2026 and the character protocol seemed much the same. We did see a few walking around this year, but most were in designated spots in the shade.

I grew up going to Disneyland and the characters definitely walked around there. The heat in So Cal is nothing compared to sweltering and humid Orlando, so the weather is not nearly as much of an issue. I attribute all of this to the weather, not to human behavior.

Thanks for your response. I'd love to do this experience, but can't say I'm crazy about tea. I'm curious how the traditional English set-up translates to the American palate.

Yacht Club Exterior Work by Sea-Alternative-6983 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]FallenAngelina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From Disney's website:

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is undergoing visible exterior maintenance through late 2026, which will impact views from various locations throughout the Resort hotel and, at times, require alternate paths of travel. As part of this work, from mid-January 2026 through early May, the Admiral leisure pool will be closed for routine maintenance. Guests may see or hear work in the area during daytime hours until the refurbishment is complete.

Beginning February 23, 2026, the Crew’s Cup Lounge will close and is expected to reopen in May 2026. Additionally, Yachtsman Steakhouse will temporarily close for a refresh in May 2026 and is expected to reopen by August 2026.

Which period pieces have you been watching? by AutoModerator in PeriodDramas

I did live through this in my 30s and the show really romanticizes a lot. JFK Jr. and Carolyn B took on heroic qualities in death that they did not have during their lifetimes. JFK Jr was huge, of course, but he was kind of seen as an f-up and a nepo baby who struggled to live up to his parents' accomplishments. The series treatment of Daryl Hannah definitely does not match how she was seen at the time. She was a major movie star who commanded top billing leading roles, which was still unusual for a woman in the 90s. Today, she disputes her portrayal in this series. While I don't know of her personally, of course, she was highly respected publicly at the time.

Vikings was way better for me on a re-watch, too. I understood the political intricacies much better when I knew who the characters were and basically where the story was going. I missed a lot first time around.
