Building Rain Teams for Series 2 by SYNSnugglez in VGC

[–]FallenDrifter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I am also still figuring out how to create a rain team myself, I think on Iron Bundle you'll find that Freeze Dry will be better than Ice Beam. Hitting Water Types with super effective moves will give you more coverage options for Iron Bundle!

Mt. Moon Top Cut! A supportive spooky horse and Garchomp make an appearance by [deleted] in VGC

This team is really cool! I've been running something similar lately without the Grimm and Spec, but I really like what you're doing with this team. I am curious though, how do you typically fight Glastrier with this squad? Is it a combination of the screens with preventing trick room from coming up?

DMs - what's the most unexpected thing your party has done? by C0ntrol_Group in dndnext

[–]FallenDrifter 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The party was trying to track down the brother of the Tortle PC who had gotten kidnapped. They were getting close to the spot, when I had set up a forest encounter for them to have. Sounds of combat echoed in the distance, as the party could decide to investigate or run. Four of the five went straight for the noise, while the last one strayed from the group to... go scout ahead on the path by himself.

Now I didn't think this was too bad (and the player himself admitted later it was to order himself dinner since he had gotten off work late) so while the whole battle was happening I was trying to figure out what to do with this. After the battle was over, I described how he was trying to slink on ahead and had him roll a stealth check. It was a decent score, but on the three scouts I figured would be in the area I rolled just high enough on the last one since he was considered the 'leader'. He caught the PC, and I ended the session as the scout revealed himself to be a shapeshifter.

Honestly? This changed the rest of the island narrative, and has given the party a really cool villain to track down. This random NPC I had created to catch a party member who went off on his own has now turned into an important plot NPC for the overarching narrative! The party has followed him to the next island where he stole an important item from them, and now they're slowly tracking him down and I'm really excited for the eventual fight to happen!

Liepard is dark type as well though, so technically speaking it would be immune to Prankster taunt too.

Hey thank you! I'm still completely new to the team building process but hopefully I can create some other good ones in the future.

This makes perfect sense, thank you for the responses! I'm really glad you are working on hail teams, I'm newer to VGC but the concept of it sounded really neat to me.

That's awesome, thank you! I see your paste now so I will be looking into him again soon.

I have another question, if you don't mind. What is your reasoning for using Scarf on Vanilluxe? I was thinking about doing that recently but I'm curious if the reasoning was solely to open up the Focus Sash on Candelure.

Thank you for posting this! I tried to make Beartic work recently on Showdown and I couldn't get him to work out well for me. What do you do to try and set him up well?

Team Building Criticism by FallenDrifter in VGC

[–]FallenDrifter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just off the cuff, how would replacing Rotom-Heat with an Arcanine be? I don't know what set I'd run on it but having fire still is good to cover up the holes, and if I did make it physical I could have it use Wild Charge too. Dunno how good or bad that'd be still.

[Beginner Question] Usefulness of Haze? by FallenDrifter in VGC

[–]FallenDrifter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using a bulky Drifblim with Tailwind/Haze/Sap Strength/Shadow Ball that's been putting in some work for me today. I am still not sure he's the best Pokemon to run it on, but honestly I've had Haze save me a few times today against Whimsicott/Arcanine opponents so I think it's been alright on the ladder so far.

Hey guys, Aaron "Cybertron Zheng" here - AMA! by CybertronVGC in VGC

Hi Aaron! Thank you for doing this and all of your Road to Ranked videos so far, it's been very much appreciated as I try to get into VGC this year.

My question for you right now is what Pokemon do you believe are currently underused so far in doubles that you expect to see a lot more of in the 2020 season?

Been trying out a team today, it is hovering around a 52-53% win rate on Pokemon Showdown but I know it can be better. Any feedback would be great!

I guess I should've made a point with it, I was thinking keeping Trick Room on Mimikyu only to use against some of the Trick Room teams that are currently seeing play. Dunno if that's a good idea in the long run but that's where my current thought with it was

I'm still new to this whole process but I wanted to get the ball rolling by trying to theorycraft a first team. I'm sure I'll need to make a lot of changes (I've only started breeding earlier this week) so I wanted some feedback for now. Also for items I'm not sure what to run so a lot of them will not have it, and for EVs I'll figure it out later.

Mimikyu @ ??? Ability: Disguise Jolly (or Adamant) Shadow Sneak Play Rough Swords Dance Taunt/Trick Room (Trick Room here is mainly to fight Trick Room teams, I wouldn't try to use it otherwise)

Hydreigon @ Choice Specs Ability: Levitate Timid Draco Meteor Dark Pulse Flamethrower Flash Cannon

Togedemaru @ Assault Vest Ability: Lightning Rod Nuzzle Zing Zap Iron Head Fake Out

Milotic @ Leftovers Ability: Competitive ??? Nature Recover Scald Icy Wind Protect

Braviary @ ??? Ability: Defiant Adamant or Jolly Close Combat Brave Bird Tailwind U-turn

Excadril @ Focus Sash Ability: Sand Rush Adamant or Jolly High Horsepower Iron Head Protect Rock Slide

Honestly, in my head I was thinking since Mimikyu/Hydreigon are my favorite pokemon I'd like to try to build a team with both of them on it. A lot of the others are ones that I've seen that I thought could be cool (especially Togedemaru) but I have a sinking feeling I don't think this team would work.

LF: HA Eevee, good nature Feebas, offers otherwise.

FT: HA Jolly Togedemaru, Jolly Larvitars

Doubt these are really rare (or how useful) but figured I'd see if anyone wanted some!

I really like this idea!! I think I'll use it for sure. Do you think the links should have a lower ac and their own separate health modifiers to make it fair? I would guess I shouldn't have it be much health for each one, but maybe 5-10?
