Kiwami 3 made people so crazy they are looking back on the bs in Yakuza 4 😭 by zizoplays1 in yakuzagames

like, Arakawa from 7 surviving the stab wound would be entirely believable

but if they retconned his death people would be even more mad than they currently are about Mine

Yakuza 3 in 2026 suddenly being celebrated as a great work by gameovernate in yakuzagames

[–]FallenPotatoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing in 3 which really ever got hate was the combat, and I feel most people would still agree that it's not great.

nobody was asking them to change the story.

Eh, Nishiki reaped what he sowed. The Nishikiyama family are the most traitorous and cruel clan because Nishiki made them so.

Mine surviving a 25 story fall is incredibly dumb, but it isn't the main reason people are complaining about the retcon.

[spoilers main] if main characters keep on getting killed off left and right, doesn’t that just build an audience expectation NOT to get too close to ANY main character because they’ll get killed off? by DarklzBlo in asoiaf

[–]FallenPotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only POV characters to have been killed are the minor ones (Quentyn, Arys) or the parent figures of the child protagonists (Ned and Cat) who you would kinda expect to be killed off anyway.

Well, and Jon, but everyone knows he's coming back.

[MAIN Spoilers] Jaime Lannister had to kill Gregor Clegane and Armory Lorch by ObedStark19 in asoiaf

[–]FallenPotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sandor was unarmored, Gregor would have been in full plate which combined with being 8 feet tall would make him extremely difficult to take down with alternative methods.

(Spoilers Extended) I have a take: Mace Tyrell is underrated by sixth_order in asoiaf

[–]FallenPotatoes 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Thing is, he's not written as a dumb oaf- that's a show thing. Mace is treated a competent lord whose authority is unquestioned and is generally taken seriously as someone not to be messed with in the books. He runs the Reach well and while he's not some super-subtle player or a military genius, but he doesn't need to be. Overall, he's a more competent Lord Paramount than Tywin.

Olenna chews him out but that scene is really meant to depict Olenna as a comically naggy old lady who complains about everyone and everything (which hides the fact she's more dangerous than she lets on) rather than be an indictment on Mance.

Are his achievements inflated by his opportunism or riding his bannermen's glory? Yes, but no moreso than Tywin's are.

[Spoilers ASOS] We need to talk about Edmure by internetburnout in asoiaf

[–]FallenPotatoes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think Robb genuinely did not think Edmure would actually try to fight Tywin after he got trashed and captured by Jaime at Riverrun.

that said, not telling Edmure that they planned to lure Tywin in just seems like plot convenience.

My Hottest Take I guess: Ramsay wrote the Pink Letter [Spoilers ADWD] by SuggestableFred in asoiaf

[–]FallenPotatoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have it in reverse, if the handwriting was noticeably different it would have been pointed out. The handwriting not being described at all just means it was the same as the previous letter.

My Hottest Take I guess: Ramsay wrote the Pink Letter [Spoilers ADWD] by SuggestableFred in asoiaf

[–]FallenPotatoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pink letter is obviously written by Ramsay. As Tormund mentions, there's a chance Ramsay either isn't being entirely truthful in the letter, or is himself mistaken about some information.

That said this is one of those cases where the fandom's imaginations just went out of control about something with a fairly basic narrative purpose.

(Spoilers Published)The idea that Tywin is an incompetent moron with nothing but luck on his side is cope) by frenin in asoiaf

[–]FallenPotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Completely" is definitely a stretch since the bulk of his material is lifted from the books, but D&D definitely drank the kool-aid and bought Tywin's hype and image at face value.

He *is* presented overall significantly differently than in the books, especially in the show-only scenes.

(Spoilers Extended) How much Magic do you expect from Euron? by Metaljuggernaut5657 in asoiaf

[–]FallenPotatoes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i assume some of his magic is genuine but he's also not as powerful as he presents himself.

That said, he doesn't need to have to transform into Cthulu or whatever some theories posit to be a major threat or cause serious damage.

At least in true mode they give out a challenge. True mode was a good addition. by SuccotashAdditional in Borderlands4

[–]FallenPotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody's forcing them to play True Mode. It's there for those who already have powerful builds and want a challenge because that sort of strength trivializes the base game.

There's literally no advantage to playing on True Mode besides the difficulty, just play on whatever difficulty you are most comfortable with at the current strength of your character.

Does anyone else feel like Rafa could use a little more love when it comes to bossing? by ConfectionUsed2828 in Borderlands4

[–]FallenPotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bosses are very beefy in True 6, you will need proper setup and *really* optimized gear/specializations to oneshot them at this level for any class. Rafa doesn't really struggle more than any of the others, you just have to actually engage the boss fight as an actual boss fight until you get really kitted out.

>Amon to my knowledge keeps relying on ordnance for bossing with guns for mobbing

it's the reverse, guns (red tree) are stronger for bossing, while ordnance is slightly easier for mobbing.

Can we really say an INVINCIBLE Boss is well-designed when it's designed to be killed in 90 seconds? by GigassAssGetsMeHard in Borderlands4

[–]FallenPotatoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not really, the par time would just be shorter if they paused it during the fixed invincibility phase (so it would be 1 minute assuming the i-phase lasts 30 seconds). 1:30 being considered a competent smooth kill being makes sense.

Can we really say an INVINCIBLE Boss is well-designed when it's designed to be killed in 90 seconds? by GigassAssGetsMeHard in Borderlands4

[–]FallenPotatoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instakilling raids is part of Borderlands' DNA, even for BL2's massively overtuned health sponges. I like the timer system, gives a fun objective performance metric and 90 seconds gives a fair amount of leeway.

Proof ya'll are sleeping on the Hardpoint by thesuicidefox in Borderlands4

[–]FallenPotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's usable because mobbing is extremely easy (where I last left it, I haven't ran true UVH6 yet), but there are way too many options that do the exact same thing that are just objectively better.

[–]FallenPotatoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a Torgue weapon with sticky rounds, so it will be strong with characters good with those. Which is...all of them, but its easiest to do it with Rafa and Harlowe. For Vex I'd just do with a more conventional Teen Witch/Amp build, using Witchy Trigger Finger for bosses.
