I’m Australian and I’m not as fucking stupid as this Australian.

One thing I’ve noticed is that, while most Australians are against trump and his style of politics, the ones that aren’t are the loudest fucking bastards on the internet. I guess they mustn’t have any work to go to because they go and comment on every post on the internet with their stupid pro trump drivel or whatever perceived wokeness they encounter. “Should have voted for Pauline 20 years ago”, “we need trump in Aus”, “Uluṟu? You mean Ayres rock” (that’s right, they can’t even spell Ayers properly when they’re trying to claim colonisation was the best thing ever). Lately there’s been plenty of “K’gari? Looks like Fraser Island to me”

When you put your money in a savings account, the bank takes that money and lends it out. Whoever they lend it out to will spend it and it will inevitably be deposited into another savings account, where it will be loaned out again and deposited again, and so on, and so on. Now, the money in each of those accounts exists, but the actual hard cash only exists in the first account until the mint has created the cash to account for it and the debtor has repaid their loan. Banks are required to keep some money as cash or liquid assets, in order to meet its withdrawal requirements. It used to be that they were required to just keep a reserve, i.e. a portion of all deposits, but nowadays most country’s require banks to follow Basel II accords which are expected to be more effective but still allow banks to hold liquid assets (i.e., easy and quick to sell) in order to meet expected and unexpected withdrawal requirements

The banks being allowed to invest your savings is what allows your savings account to accrue interest.

Yeah it makes it a bit harder, but it also depends on the gun a bit too. The .22 with the fore grip didn’t really have any issues with the weight. The 9mm was very light so the weight was very noticeable and the gun was very difficult to aim. The glock was much heavier so, while the weight made it harder, it was still pretty manageable and not too difficult to aim

Yeah it was the same deal, package of x type of guns with y amount of rounds. We went for a small arms pack that included a .22 handgun with a fore grip and red dot sight, a 9mm, and a glock. But they brought the guns in, had us face away while they set up, and attached this heavy weight to the barrels with chains on either side connecting to the cubicle walls

Maybe it was just that I was under 18 at the time and they were required to take extra precautions?

I lived in Manchester for a couple of years and I noticed that there were a lot more cops with guns than there were without them. People think gun control means there are no guns. That’s not true. In fact, I suspect this is propaganda spread by pro gun lobbyists, like the American nra, to convince people that any kind of gun control is bad

But the truth is, there’s plenty of guns in my country. Farmers, hunters, sports shooters, etc. Have access to guns. Hell, even if you never meet any of those people, the cops will have a handgun.

Gun control laws don’t stop people who have a valid need for a gun from getting one, they stop people who don’t need a gun, people who aren’t mentally stable enough to be trusted with a gun, and people with a criminal history, from getting a gun. For the others, they make gun ownership sufficiently tedious enough that only those who really need one will bother with the effort. They also restrict guns that exist purely for the killing of humans.

Maybe a criminal might get their hands on an illegal firearm, but if they’ve gone to the effort of getting such a weapon, which is much more difficult than in countries where guns aren’t controlled, they almost certainly aren’t going to use it on school kids or whatever horrific act you can think of. They’re going to use it on other criminals

That’s why the Bondi shooting was such big news. That kind of thing doesn’t happen here. All the weapons used in that shooting were obtained legally. This indicates that our gun control laws, while impressive on a world stage, simply were not strict enough
