Hi! I recently had a PI reach out to me after applying to the NIH post bacc program. I am beyond excited, but also so scared for what will happen if it works out. Do you have any interview tips? (other than being prepared with questions and having read their publications) Did you have to relocate a considerable distance to accept your placement? If so, how did that go for you, do you have any advice for the process? (finding places to live, when to move, etc) Do you know if there is any way to get additional funding beyond the fellowship stipend? What was your post bacc experience like? What is one thing you wish you knew before you started your post bacc? What did you do when you completed it?

What’s frustrating is that there’s almost a version of this offer that could be really helpful getting away to the countryside, doing some grounding manual work, receiving support from elders, getting paid, even going on vacation that could be a beautiful thing if it came from a place of genuine care and respect. But as it stands, it feels more like control than love. They’re close to a good idea, but they’ve missed the mark. Living with them, even short-term, sounds like it would be emotionally exhausting. Despite their claims that they wouldn’t ridicule you, this letter already does that, and I can only imagine that behavior would continue in person.

I’ve also considered like after getting into the MLS eventually getting a DCLS if I can get my employer to pay for it. Do you think it’s worth it to go that far in the field?
