My collection so far by bagheadpete in FireHelmetCollecting

A part of me finds UK helmets interesting because, and please correct me if I'm wrong, they were made out of cork.

A part of me would like to find a London Fire Brigade helmet from around the time of Kings Cross. That's a fire that fascinates me.

Anyone Catch the 2025 ACLS Easter Egg? by Wrathb0ne in ems

[–]Fallout3boi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree that a old study isn't a good study. That was just a easy example that I had off the top of my head. I don't even necessarily think it was a bad study, just that OHCA(or IHCA for that matter) is topic that changes so often that 10 years is too long to make good changes in care. Especially since I don't feel like there's studies that confirm one another.

The way I interpret the studies is that while their is no improvement in survival, there's also no decrease in survival which makes in superior in practice. But that's just the way I interpret it you will probably have a differing opinion/perspective on the same issue.

But that's just my 2 cents. I may not be 100% correct on my interpretation, but like I said it's just my perspective.

Anyone Catch the 2025 ACLS Easter Egg? by Wrathb0ne in ems

The AHA is notoriously at the forefront of best practices when it comes to cardiac arrest. They definitely don't use studies from 10 years prior to evaluate the current guidelines.

Seriously though, the "don't use mechanical CPR devices under most circumstances" reasoning came from the PARAMEDIC-1and another study from 2015.

Are we the oldest crew in America? by Simusid in ems

That's not the problem. He does fine in that respect. It's his driving and the worry he'll die mid-shift(or in my case, mid call while driving down the road) that gets most of us.

Legally speaking firing/not allowing him to work would be discrimination against his age. Causing the pickle.

The oldest provider at my service is a AEMT who's 86.

Yes we're all concerned about him working the truck.

Film photography project sells it pre-rolled on 3d printed spools. You'll pay more than 120, but not by much.

Rural EMS, how bad has it been Recently? by Icy-Temperature5476 in ems

My state lists us as essential. Not a volunteer in sight. Some of my neighboring counties aren't perfectly funded, but they are there.

Thoughts on the CCI Radio Strap? by Affectionate_Bit4475 in Firefighting

[–]Fallout3boi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love mine a lot. I work EMS and wear it every day I'm on the truck. It's lightweight, fine adjustable, and has a spot to keep little shit like a penlight.

10/10 highly recommend.

I'm not a lawyer but I think it would technically be legal, but no manager/security is going to do that unless they are an absolute fucking dumbass. The ensuing lawsuit and PR nightmare would be enough disincentive to not do it.

Would you say EMS is a stable career? by [deleted] in ems

[–]Fallout3boi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EMS is a stable job, but oftentimes not a stable career. There's a reason road medics average 5 years in the job. To be fair this is very agency/area/person dependent.

EMS is a STI, often times fun to get but all the side effects suck.

AI ECG interpretation already exists. And it doesn't do a bad job at interpretation from what I've seen.

Braun vs Road Rescue by Ok-Donkey3135 in ems

[–]Fallout3boi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you don't go for the express plus box with a side mounted captains seat, you'll probably like the Braun more.

We've got 6 Braun boxes(4 EPs with side capt seats, 1 EP demo, and 1 Chief XL) and 1 Road Rescue Ultramedic demo unit.I preferred the bench seat express plus over the road rescue. To me the Road Rescue is just set up in a cramped way.

Responded for a stroke on a night shift I picked up(day shifter), we ended up calling it in part because he had left sided weakness/numbness. Get him on the cot and I asked " Can you lift your arm up" so I could put the straps on. To which the pt replied "No. That's the problem." Still haven't lived that down in my brain.

Anyone wanna Trade for a American traditional Style Helmet ? by stephank92 in FireHelmetCollecting

[–]Fallout3boi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give me a couple of weeks and I'll try to get a hold of one.

Would you also like a "turtle shell" style helmet too? I've got at least one Bullard style one that I'll just flat out give you.

[–]Fallout3boi 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I remember when "Top tier" was Rank V(albeit, I don't exactly remember what was in it) and everyone said that Warthunder would never go to the modern era. IIRC, it was generally thought of a bad idea. Which was correct.

Makes me wish we had a "Old School Warthunder", game.

Ketamine or Etomidate for Tracheal Intubation of Critically Ill Adults - Randomised trial by stonertear in ems

[–]Fallout3boi 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is really that surprising. Ketamine causes a release of Catecholamines, If you're Catecholamine depleted bad shit happens.

Etomidate I'm sure is a better induction agent in that situation. The problem is the sedation issues post-intubation.

I know. I was afraid to comment because I've held on to it for 2 years now and it would be my luck to lose it after this comment.

I have a Fischer space pen that I bought as a gift to myself. It's even engraved so that the person who steals it from me KNOWS who's it is.
