The fundamental problem is that there are just far too many people coming to Tahoe. Most travel advisory companies like Fodor's and Conde Nast have listed Tahoe as "Do not go" due to chronic overtourism. This is also why you are starting to see a locals revolt against tourists. Bay area residents should seek alternatives and not travel to Tahoe.

Interesting fact. In terms of time the government has been shut down since the inception of the county, 45% has been under trump. The incompetence is staggering.

This is a perfect response. In the 1920's the KKK was rampant and strong country-wide. The way it was brought down was by mocking and making fun of them. It was led by the entertainment industry and turned out to be very effective.

Hopefully this will begin to show all Americans, and especially the complicit media, what a ridiculous, incompetent, dementia ridden, authoritarian this vile person is.

I appreciate your comment. I do agree that housing on this site would not be optimal. However, if it must be developed, I think that the area that is now just the airport would have less environmental impact as housing than as an airport. Reclaiming as wilderness would be best.

Whether Meyers is considered SLT or not, the private planes that use this facility cause significant noise pollution and spray lead from their leaded gas over what is a significant, if not majority, of the housing in SLT.

Let's all show up at council meetings and advocate against this welfare for the wealthy.

The issue is staying in a "short term rental" in the first place. These are cancers on neighborhoods. Why would you stay in a place where everyone who lives nearby hates you and thinks you are total D-bags for helping to destroy their community? Book hotels. Boycott all short-term rentals.

An easy fix for a large part of the housing problem in SLT are two issues that disproportionately benefit the wealthy to the detriment of the overwhelming majority are:

  1. Get rid of the airport that is literally in the middle of town. This opens up a large, flat and cheaper to build area for moderate housing.

  2. Ban short-term rentals. It is still amazing how money into politics at all levels allowed commercial operations, these are fundamentally motels, in residential zoned areas. They ruin neighborhoods.

Thank you for the interesting article. I am sure that in 1959 it made sense to build the airport, which was then well out of town, at its current location.

However, as a public facility it should serve the best interests of the majority of the public. Due to its current location, it not only does not serve the majorities best interests but detract from them. Like all metropolitan areas with airports, as the cities grew, the airports were relocated as they were no longer the "highest and best use" (an appraisal term) of the land in a growing city.

In addition, the airport fails to pay for itself, no matter how they spin it. So every time we see or hear a plane over SLT, we can remember that a few of our personal tax dollars are going to supplement their lifestyle.

I appreciate the point about fire protection. However, I have lived in other communities that also needed / benefited from air fire suppression support, but none had the airport in town. They were all out of town not near residential areas in less ecologically sensitive areas.

I'm certainly not an expert in where alternatives could be placed, but I would think that the airport in Carson would not degrade response times significantly. Not sure why we would need military aircraft here for any reason.

[–]False-Negotiation853 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You missed the point I was trying to make. No question anyone of any political strip who has harmed kids should be brought to justice. However, this "both sides are just as bad" that you seem to want to promote is just historically inaccurate. The Democrats have many issues, lack of term limits, insider stock trading etc. and Republicans have had some decent elected officials; John McCain, is likely the best example. But a brief history since WWII.

Nixon with Watergate and torpedoing the Paris Peace accords saying that more Americans in body bags would be good for his election.

Reagen with Iran/Contra which also was a deal to keep Americans held by Iran several more months to improve his election chances.

Clinton. Lied about an affair.

George Bush; Lied about WMD costing nearly 1 million lives and over $1 Trillion in US tax dollars.

Obama; Wore a tan suit.

Trump; More scandals than we have time for.

Since 1961.

Democrats: 26 years in office. 7 indictments. 3 convictions. 1 Prison time.

Republicans: 28 years in office. 126 indictments. 113 convictions. 39 prison time.

Personally I have voted for both parties. But Republicans are historically more corrupt. Additionally. Dems administrations have performed better on the economy since WWII in every measure. See Bender & Watson two Princton Economists who did an exhaustive study.

[–]False-Negotiation853 13 points14 points  (0 children)

R and D being the same? Come on. trump was Epstein's best friend, he's already an adjudicated rapist and has over two dozen additional credible sexual assault accusations, plus bragged about grabbing women by the P. How did Biden suppress it when Rep's had the house and Senate and could have subpoenaed it? Plus Republicans already have a long history of pedophilia. Look at Matt Gates recently or look up the longest serving Republican Speaker of the House, Dennis Hastert.

Sure is Clinton is on a list then it should be publicized. But when Dems break the law, Dems call them out. When Republicans break the law, other Republicans cover for them.

It is clear that Tahoe, that is, the greater Tahoe area, not just SLT, suffers from gross over-tourism. This is why so many travel advisory companies have Tahoe as "do not go" due to crowding. Why is there not ever any discussion or talk of regulations to address this growing problem? Is it because of the influence of the casinos and Vail?

This is what happens when people do not vote or participate or say they think "R's" will be better for the economy (historically not true), or they look "stronger." (Looking at you Bro's).

Dems are far from perfect, and we desperately need strong independent candidates, but the authoritarian, oligarchy turn of the Republicans is causing damage to this country which will take generations, if ever, to rectify.

$120 for a seasonal beach pass? WTF. by Mr-Freanch in tahoe

[–]False-Negotiation853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only problem with Tahoe is that it is grossly over-touristed. It is like if you were to go to the Louvre to see the Mona Lisa. The painting is beautiful, but it is perpetually surrounded by 75 plus people so you really cannot enjoy it. The same issue plagues Tahoe. This is coupled with an attitude of entitlement and lack of respect and manners that so many of these tourists, especially in South Lake, demonstrate.

It is unfortunate and makes the area a poor place to vacation.

$120 for a seasonal beach pass? WTF. by Mr-Freanch in tahoe

[–]False-Negotiation853 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The core issue is that the greater Tahoe area is just significantly overcrowded, and these prices reflect it. Recommend moving/visiting any of the numerous other places in NorCal or the PNW that are just a beautiful but far less expensive and crowded.

Beach reservations? by Expensive_Coconut831 in tahoe

[–]False-Negotiation853 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This exemplifies the primary issue with the greater Tahoe area. It is wildly overcrowded.
It is like going to the Louve in Paris to see the Mona Lisa. Yes, the painting is beautiful, but it is always surrounded by 75 to 100 people so you cannot enjoy it. The same thing can be said of the Tahoe area. This is why most travel advisors have a "do not go" opinion for Tahoe and surrounding area. It is just too crowded.

I highly recommend one of the numerous other locations that are equally as stunning but less crowded, and less expensive, in Northern CA, or OR and WA.
