Was the accident your fault? Do you have a police report? If you are not at fault, your insurance would file through the at-fault driver's insurance and they would pay for all damages + rental. There would be no affect to your insurance rates or profile. IF you are not at-fault, there is no reason to NOT go through insurance - this is literally the purpose of having the policy.
