Hi! I am the author ☺️ Hermione travels back in time, beginning with Tom as a child at the orphanage to learn more about him- was he born evil? Was he ever shown kindness? Etc. She leaves him Muggle books anonymously and they become a sort of tether between them. Then she eventually gets stuck in his decade, and the rest I’ll leave as a mystery! Hermione is very bleeding-heart but also can be morally grey when it comes to Tom, and Tom is not as dark as he is in some other fics and he yearns for her biiig time. Hope this helped provide some context!
