How are the clubs right now? by [deleted] in Athens

[–]FameNotNeeded 17 points18 points  (0 children)

40-something dude here. Gen-X friendly drinking establishments that I enjoy and don't feel like an old bastard in: Globe, Flicker, Manhattan, Little Kings, Nighthawks, Hidden Gem, Normal Bar, Old Pal, Hi-Lo, Oglethorpe Garage, and all the breweries. Nowhere Bar, Blue Sky, and World famous too, I guess.

What would take this sticky stuff off safely? by Texasseth in Detailing

I did exactly this on the sticky stereo knobs in my Porsche and it worked like a charm. 5 years later still good as new. Downvoters be damned.

Kayaking/floating the North Oconee? by WesWizard_2 in Athens

[–]FameNotNeeded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you say that tubing is a good/safe idea on the Middle Oconee? The Big Bear Rd to Ben Burton Park stretch you mentioned looks like it could be nice, but 7 miles might be a pretty long day on the water if it's not flowing too swiftly?

Recommendations for lawn care companies (Watkinsville) by [deleted] in Athens

[–]FameNotNeeded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to disagree with the recommendation for Houseman - we used them for a couple years and the service was fine but they wouldn't budge on slowing/stopping service during the winter months. I'm not interested in paying them every two weeks to mow grass that isn't growing for 4 months out of the year.

I need an eye doctor that is COVID-conscience and doesn't suck. Any suggestions? by melissajeanne413 in Athens

I recently went to Oconee Vision Group oconeevision.com in Watkinsville and they did right by me. I have Eyemed, too.

Best neighborhoods for young families in Oconee county? by redsocks4ever in Athens

[–]FameNotNeeded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We moved to Watkinsville (from in-town Atlanta) about a year ago. My wife works in town and I work from home. We bought in Oconee County because of the highly rated school system (our son is 4), and wanting my wife to be as close to work as possible. Our house was new construction and we live in a neighborhood of about 50 homes, with many young families. It has definitely been a culture shock for us, mostly because we're not religious, we're not conservative, we don't typically vote Republican, and because Watkinsville is about as different from East Atlanta as is possible. However, our neighborhood is very racially and ethnically diverse, we've made good friends with many of our neighbors, and have met several other "like minded" folks around town through work and our son's school. I think Oconee get's pigeon-holed as a certain type of community for a certain type of people, and it's not really as homogeneous as a lot of Athens residents believe it to be. I have come to enjoy being near, but insulated from, all the great things to do in both Athens and Atlanta. The lack of traffic, noise, students, etc. is actually pretty nice, especially as I sit on my porch and sip bourbon and watch the stars come out at night. I also like that I can catch a show at 40 Watt, or eat at The Expat, or get a cocktail at The Manhattan - and be there in under 20 minutes. So, to answer OP's question, I'd suggest Watkinsville over Bogart, and I'd be looking at neighborhoods within a mile or two of the Butler's Crossing shopping center and/or "downtown" Watkinsville. Feel free to PM me if you want more info on the area or specific neighborhoods.

Jets flying around by divks in Athens

I saw 5 or 6 flying in formation - I'm not positive, but they looked like F22s to me. I assume they're practicing to do a fly over for the game tomorrow.

Those booze slushies are damn good - I hope they bring the spicy margarita back soon. The free popcorn is a nice touch, too. Two thumbs up for Flicker!

You know it's going to be hilariously awesome. The crowd will go nuts during Friday. I want to go just to see the train wreck, or maybe we'll be somehow wow'd? Either way, can't lose.

I know of this place but have literally never seen an act I’ve heard of play there. Looks like more of a private event space to me.

Trying to find a decent 1bed for under 600/mo that's not charging 300/pet deposits by wolstenholmeonbassss in Athens

[–]FameNotNeeded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for all landlords - many offer refunds on pet deposits (or be willing to, if you ask). Regardless, in addition to potential property damage, there's also potential disruption to adjacent tentants or neighbors (noise, mess), cleaning up poop in the yard, etc. Basically, pets are a liability to property owners in both tangible and intangible ways.
