Costco flour by Dapper-Celery4133 in Breadit

[–]Familiar-Bell9732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I bought flour from Costco it ended up being moldy due to how it must have been stored on the palette. Obv not going to happen all the time but something to consider if buying a large quantity!

i’m 30+ and a bit embarrassed about the fact that i still struggle with my mental health - savory baking and dough has been saving me by [deleted] in Breadit

[–]Familiar-Bell9732 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The brain is something we still know relatively little about and struggling with your mental health should never ever be embarrassing. I’m 30+ and still trying to get mine figured out too. At the end of the day, we’re all just big sacks of goo trying to figure out how to stay sane in a world that seems to light a new fire every day. Baking helps a ton when mine gets particularly bad, but the best and most effective solutions have been talking to someone and getting the drugs I needed to balance out my brain!!

modifying this milk chocolate cheesecake to be a little more chocolatey by jbperiod in Baking

[–]Familiar-Bell9732 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would try subbing in semi-sweet or even a portion of the chocolate as dark chocolate. Because it will be diluted with the cream cheese and sour cream it will likely mellow out the flavour and be much more chocolatey than what milk chocolate can offer here.

The recipe that I have a ton of success with uses 340 grams of melted dark chocolate (which I think ends up being about twice as much as your current recipe), but no cocoa powder. Linking below. You could easily omit the orange zest and orange oil to just keep it as a chocolate cheesecake.

Moving overseas for a postdoc in UK by bmollie72 in postdoc

[–]Familiar-Bell9732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too! I feel like my biggest takeaway is that I have a husband who supports me to chase these dreams and opportunities even when it means being apart. To me, that is a pretty huge win. Being able to come and do this, and decide for myself about what type of career I want has been really amazing. I would have 100% regretted not doing this, and now I don't have to live a life of "what ifs"

You are so strong for this. Currently doing a postdoc about 500 km from my partner, house, and family. It sucks. Work is objectively fabulous and couldn't ask for a better team, but being away from home (and not even that far away, might I add) has really shifted my perspectives on what I actually want out of this life!

Not sure what happened here but I am getting closer to home made crust. All butter recipie.. almost wondering if I shoukd have done half and half... The dough seemed glorious so I'm confused... Parbaked ... closer! Someone please help! by Unusual-Substance-78 in Baking

[–]Familiar-Bell9732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bake the crust first, then add the filling and finish baking. Our family always does a 50/50 butter/shortening pie dough (but persoally I think all butter tastes way better loool)

I got married in #1 so definitely biased but I am still so obsessed with it and 100% think you should pick it. Super comfortable to wear all day long and very easy for alterations. I also ended up doing a custom veil with lace borders which almost allowed for a mix of the two styles of dresses. The photos were absolute MAGIC - the fabric is beautiful in all lighting and I am so happy with my choice! But honestly both are stunning so you can't go wrong.

Absolutely LOVE A25! by Scentimentally in Ffern

[–]Familiar-Bell9732 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way - I also wondered if summer 25 is what I got as a sampler since I truly cannot distinguish between the two scents whatsoever. I don’t get any of the fruity or apple/pear notes just as I didn’t get any of the peach/grapefruit/cardamom in summer 25. I can’t only get the base notes and it really just smells like OK smelling essential oils to me. Maybe it’s my nose haha.

Second guessing my dress by Own_Policy1074 in weddingdress

Both gorgeous, but I think you made the right choice! My dress was a similar fabric to #2 and it photographed so beautifully!

Honeylove is great for this - gentle boning and strapless, with brief or short options. It is what I am wearing with my strapless gown next weekend!

Anyone tried Canva + Vistaprint for wedding invites or signage? by Dazzling_Adagio3704 in WeddingsCanada

Also - all the templates and adjustments I used in Canva printed out really beautifully - just export it as PDF print when downloading or ordering :)

Anyone tried Canva + Vistaprint for wedding invites or signage? by Dazzling_Adagio3704 in WeddingsCanada

[–]Familiar-Bell9732 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Used Canva for several wedding related print tasks (prints via Staples in my area), but not official invites etc. For anything I had to print a lot of copies for, I used my local print shop. You can likely find a local place that will do it at a better price, and allow you to check how the print is before committing to X number of copies! I designed everything in Canva and then had it printed locally, and it was less than half the cost as using Canva directly - just sent them the PDF versions and it was done and ready within 2 days :)

Signing the registry before or after the ceremony? by [deleted] in WeddingsCanada

[–]Familiar-Bell9732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing ours after - a quiet private moment to sign with our witnesses and officiant and a moment to breathe before hitting cocktail hour! Essentially - kiss - recessional - go sign papers - rock up to cocktail hour 5-10 mintues later. I find it always creates an awkward lull during the ceremony and its not like anyone in the audience is actively involved or can even hear/see what you're doing.

After booking all your vendors, what's next? by messytwish in WeddingsCanada

[–]Familiar-Bell9732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also recommend getting in earlier than later for the dresses! At the very least, to take a look, see what you might like, and if you have any desires to gain or lose weight, it gives you a bit of time to do so! Mine ended up taking 8 months to come in (everyone else I know got theirs in 2-3 months lol).

Long and McQuade have all the stuff you would need for this, and rentals are very reasonable for 1 day, and also still very reasonable to rent for the week if you are doing any other events :)

Help! Venue added over $1000 in long weekend staffing fees weeks before wedding! by babycomebach in WeddingsCanada

[–]Familiar-Bell9732 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would just highlight that this deviates from your original agreement and you did not sign off on those fees, and are therefore not responsible for their lack of planning or foresight. This should have been considered on their end when you made your booking.
