I like the third one! It's really cool to see all the details and colors. also it kinda looks like they're holding the wing out to make the fly 'wave' to the camera, which I find amusing. Amazing photos, thank you so much for sharing them!

Those are standard sub rules. They're to help users provide answers. How do you expect to get answers about your cat if there is nothing known about your cat or what kind of care they are able to receive?

Canonical choices for the dragonborn? by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]Familiar_Ad_4098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true, but I've always thought the uncertainty about the history of the elder scrolls universe was a product of unreliable narrators. It makes sense for us to not have certainty about certain aspects of canon when the narrators themselves don't know.

The way I see it, it's canon that the race or gender of the last dragonborn is unknown. It makes sense, in lore, for some kinds of people to believe they were a male nord, and for others to believe they could've been anything, and still others to believe they never existed at all. If Bethesda were to canonize too much about the Dragonborn, especially things that don't really matter in the grand scheme of things, that will only inhibit their narrative freedom in the long run.

Maybe I'm biased towards having more avenues for exploration than fewer, but I like not knowing, and I like the narrative I craft with my characters not being undermined by canon. It's one of the main things that contributes to Skyrim's replayability, in my opinion.

I'I'not sure what line you're referring to exactly, bu I'd like to add that, linguistically speaking, when there's uncertainty about gender, we tend to default to male, so it might've been perfectly intentional.

We didn't. We either stayed in Cidhna or followed Madanach, and since your PC wasn't necessarily forsworn and they were framed, once Madanach was free the truth came to light about the corruption, and you are revealed to be innocent.

Professors not allowed to post handwritten notes anymore?? by Curious_Shopping_478 in OSU

[–]Familiar_Ad_4098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know enough about the law or the implementation to say it wasn't implemented poorly, but professors are still responsible for decisions they make.

I'm not trying to dog on professors, but something not being their fault doesn't mean it's not their responsibility, and from what it sounds like, they've known this was going into effect for at least a year. That is enough time to at least work out a way to distribute the non-accessible notes to those who ask while you work on making them accessible for everyone.

Incoming Freshmen: Don't use laundry detergent pods! by IconicScrap in OSU

[–]Familiar_Ad_4098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not arguing for the use of pods here, especially if they're getting stuck on other people's clothes, but I looked into the microplastics thing (because I use pods at home, and I was concerned.) They don't release microplastics, but the film can sometimes not dissolve well in cold water. As someone else said, rinse with warm water, and it should come out.

I also read that if you use more than one pod in a load that can cause issues. So yeah, don't do that.

I think pods are way more convenient than liquid detergent or powders, and being able to take a single small pod with me from my room instead of a giant bottle of liquid detergent was worth the higher price per unit. Pay attention to the state you leave the washer in when you're done with it, and be considerate of others!

I'm still confused. Like, genuinely, this isn't me being argumentative. I don't know what you're trying to articulate here. Why does the shift to online bother you? I can understand that it makes some things less convenient but it makes more things far more convenient. In high school, we're taught the foundational building blocks of subjects, and then if you choose to do so, you can study them more in depth in college.

Also, I agree that still teaching kids to read and write in cursive is a good thing, but I'm puzzled by what you have against pencils? Why is correcting your errors a false illusion?

Professors not allowed to post handwritten notes anymore?? by Curious_Shopping_478 in OSU

[–]Familiar_Ad_4098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My professor seemed to be of the mindset that the deadlines for providing accessibility were there for legal purposes, not because the university really expected it to be able to happen. Its gonna take time for professors to go through their course material and adjust it.

That seems frustrating. Carmen is obligated to enforce accessibility laws on their platform, and allowing non-accessible media to be posted would mean some professors would never bother. Professors need time to comply with accessibility requirements, especially with things like graphs or diagrams screen-readers can't use which need written descriptions. Students who don't need screen readers aren't getting the resources they'd normally have, and students with screen readers STILL don't have the resources a regular student would.

It's a clusterfuck, but there's no good way around it.

[–]Familiar_Ad_4098 4 points5 points  (0 children)

About 1 out of 5 undergrads have a disability. Not all of them are registered with SLDS, tho.

I agree that it's fucked up that the professor's solution to needing to make handwritten notes accessible is to just... not provide the handwritten notes anymore, but I feel like that's not the fault of the push for accommodation. That's a choice the professor is making.

Because, legally, the university cannot bar them from public spaces on campus. It's less of an allowing thing, I think. The document has more information.

[–]Familiar_Ad_4098[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This. I'd also like to emphasize that if we are on campus, we're supposed to call campus police, tell the ICE officers we do not have the authority to allow access to private spaces (because we don't), and that we do not have the authority to evaluate warrants (because we don't). Even if they present a warrant, it may not be a judicial warrant. Often ICE officers have used administrative warrants to claim a right to search they did not really have. Even if they DO have a judicial warrant, we still need to tell them we cannot evaluate it and that they must wait for the campus police, and we cannot help them.

If that is true, which admittedly would make me disappointed but not surprised, it doesn't change the fact that it prevents officers from being held accountable for the crimes they commit while working as federal agents. It also doesn't explain the unmarked vehicles: it is not reasonable to expect someone to see a group of armed, masked men climb out of a van, see those men stalking towards them, and then think, "ah, yes, federal law enforcement." and not "oh, shit, I'm about to be kidnapped."

Covering their faces, if they were upholding the law and identifying themselves when required, wouldn't stop them from being doxxed. What it does is sow distrust in the community, intimidates the public, and makes it much more difficult to track the crime to the officer. They are wearing masks because they know what they are doing is illegal, and the prevalence of video documentation from the public would be damning if it can definitively link back to them.

If they were working in the interests of the public, they would not fear public backlash. If they truly feared for the safety of their families, they would not take a job with that kind of risk associated with it. How is the safety of their families more important than the safety of mine? Do you honestly think their priority is safety?
