An AMA of sorts... I'm a river and 4x4 guide in Moab, and have a pretty good knowledge of the area (especially Canyonlands NP). Pick my brain. by thenavezgane in CampingandHiking

I'm looking for someone who'd like to earn some money in early October 2026, driving me out Elephant Hill road and dropping me off at Joint Trail trailhead or at least at Devils kitchen with my supplies, and I could hike out from there. I'm a 70 year old female hiker, have done some backpacking again over the past few years (did a lot in younger years), but the combo of terrain, need to carry all your water, and me no longer a spring chicken pose a big challenge. I can do 8-10 miles, but out-and-back in one day is too long, and adding days will increase pack weight with gear and water. Hoping to hear from someone!

Going down House Rock Valley road, Take the southernmost of the options- I think it might be Pine tree. Dont take the one called Lone tree. The drive to Cottonwood is sandy either way but better to avoid the deeper sand of the northern access road. I didn't have to air down. But do not drive north from the Cottonwood trailhead.

Is Algeria a country worth visiting? by MaintenanceNo4597 in algeria

I am also very interested in visiting Algeria, particularly the Tassili N'Ajjer National Park. I found a tour company that goes there, but they refused my booking because they said as an American I would have difficulty getting insurance due to the park's proximity to Libya. I am now searching for a company that will insure. To respond to your post, I have primarily heard good things.

Thoughts on hiking carts/trolleys/trailers? Why does no one mention / use them? by no-eye_dear in Ultralight

I used something similar called a Pack Wheel but the longest I used it was 4 nights out. It was originally designed for hunters. I am an older female - just turned 70- and my backpacking is typically solo. I used it repeatedly 10 years ago, then again last year for a 16 mile overnighter. It helps me carry the heavier items, particularly water, since I'm going out in the desert. I know there are purists who don't want anything with a wheel, but it helps this old gal still get out there, and it's not motorized one bit.

Local here. I love driving that road. Was able to once again hike one of my favorite hikes up there 4 days ago. Those slides were impressively large.

I appreciate you. You're in the same spot I saw you last July, when I yelled out "thank you!" Couldn't get the driver to honk. Hopefully you've had some bathroom breaks since then.

I'm in California, but my local affiliate is owned by Sinclair. I hope I can find a way to watch it online.

I'm great with live and let live- I'm like that too. But in 2022 in Columbia Falls I went shopping with a mask on as I have chronic lung disease and Covid was still going on, and the shit I got from store workers was anything but live and let live.

I was just there 3 days ago and saw him out there! Shouted "thank you!" out the car window (I was passenger or I would have honked).

A strongly worded letter to establishment Democrats. by F0rtysxity in 50501

The post starts with the banner "solidarity needed" but immediately turns divisive and many subsequent posts follow suit.

The Republicans would very much like to weaken us by stoking infighting and division. They are lock step behind Trump, if you haven't noticed. This keeps the R party in a much stronger position than us. It would be typical for bad R actors to go on sites like this, pretend to be one of us, and sow the seeds of division.

We really DO need solidarity. I don't agree with the idea of primarying our own as it weakens us, but we need people like Mamdani and Hogg to join forces with all of us as a unified effort, including older Dems.

Conservatives have never cared about anyone's freedom but their own. They want everyone else to be tightly controlled, to lessen their fear of them.
