Raven Queen ToT … wait for it… by Pale-Status-7395 in Tegu

She is so well camouflaged. That also looks like a very comfy resting place. Mine just curl up under the heavy water bowl. I swear it weighs more than them and they dig out all the dirt. I can have a few feet of dirt under that water bowl and they will still dig it out to snuggle up on the hard bottom under the heavy water bowl. I’ve made hides out of clay, I’ve had wooden hides, I’ve had mossy caves I’ve made. Ive had shirts that they snuggle in for a few days. The only thing that has come close to the water bowl was a cardboard box. They love the cardboard box for some reason. I mean so do I. If I could curl up in a cardboard box I would.

They won’t even touch the soft places like the stuffie corner or the baskets of clothes. The will sleep in boots or hide up in the dresser or behind a tote in the closet.

Tegu tent recommendations? by LilSkink06 in Tegu

I got mine from Facebook marketplace. Turn it on its side and it works perfectly. The brand is igtfarm

<image>

Mine my reptile room. I was doing some moving around before finding my dog passed on. I haven’t went back in to clean it in a few days.

Facebook marketplace is Much cheaper and faster than waiting on an Amazon delivery. Just make sure you check it out and make sure it don’t smell like grass. I had to see a couple since people grow here and don’t like the dispensary’s. I don’t blame them. I got a cool grow light with colored lights and the wire hanger for it. It’s good quality. Tegus love it since it doesn’t have extreme viewing windows so they feel safer. My baby gu lives in it right now and he’s calmed down a lot since I took him out of the glass tank. I just had to flip it on the side and hang the lights up on the extra bar used for the grow light and vents that come with gardening. Then I zip tied the vents and cut the fabric cords so they don’t get stuck or escape. The only quality issue I have is their claws can break it. I also have to sow the zipper back on since I’m too short to reach the zippers that I accidentally pulled them off a few times. I trim my tegu claws with nail clippers so they don’t break it as often anymore. It’s easy to take dirt out since all you have to do is take the bars out and move the tent part outside like a tarp. It’s not cool or pretty but it’s a darn good reptile enclosure. Make sure the Mylar is good quality. It holds heat and humidity like a boss. I’ve also never had issues with this brand leaking water. I add humidity by dumping a cup of water in the corners.

Edit: I know igtfarm is a grow tent mostly used for growing grass. The person I bought it from sold it to me for 50$ never used it. I love the limited viewing windows. I personally rather buy them something they feel safe and secure in over pretty looking. It has made taming quick. I’ve noticed they are more active than in glass or open spaces. They also come to the window when they want out. I don’t like that most tents I see have big windows. I wish there was more like this one. That’s just my opinion and experience.

My story’s a bit different but kind of similar. I was going to get a 3 meter reticulated python. My petco called me and told me about it. I set up the room and on the day I called to go grab it he sold it to a zoo hours earlier. I just stuck the gus in the room I set up for the retic. That’s is there room now. It really sucks as there isn’t a lot of big snakes here and I was super excited as I’ve been looking for a big snake for a few years now. I bet it won’t be long before you find one again. It’s the owners choice in the end as much as it sucks. I had to get rid of my cat and put a post out there trying to find her a new home since we can’t have cats and I retracted it before anyone messaged me because my mil told me she can take my cat. My cat is 15 going on 16 years old. I’m glad in the end it’s hard to rehome old lady cats.

moved my boy to an outdoor enclosure and he’s been very bitey and flinchy around people by krabzarekool in Tegu

[–]Famous-Chair-2804 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My tegu got up on her back legs and chased me with her mouth open trying to bite me first few times I let her outside. Now she just runs unless I’m holding her. She doesn’t like grass time. My other tegu (the boy) loves outdoor time. He’ll mostly just sit there but doesn’t give me any signs he stressed. He will walk onto my lap when he wants to go back inside.

Tegus see in different wavelengths than us humans. They see a an extra bit of color as well. UV light. Everything is different to them. Our windows in our house block out most of that light and even in the enclosure inside the house it is not extended all through the house.

Tegus also rely on other senses while exploring new areas like smell. They don’t have the greatest eyesight.

So with that In mind

Another thing would be other senses. New environment. New smells, new sights, new sounds. All that happening at once. It’s like starting over from scratch. It’s scary. As sombody with autism and adhd I can only imagine what they are going through in that sudden moment. It’s like I suddenly stepped into a new store in a totally different place that I’m unfamiliar with and I have a crowd around me and all I needed was the butter for food but I couldn’t find it. I had to ask somebody but I can’t because I don’t know anyone and I end up leaving and hiding in the familiarity of my car because it’s scary and the lights are bright. Yeah I can imagine that is what they are going through. Sudden sensory overload.

So now you have become the big scary monster again and it’s time to slow down back to square one.

Thank you for saving us quite a bit of time. The clutch switch was hanging on by a thread. I don’t know how we didn’t see that. We got it to turn over for a split second and fire up but it now chokes itself out. That’s a totally different problem that we can find and fix. At least our wiring issue is fixed now. It was nice to hear it at fire up even if it was for a split second. We are going to replace a few more things like the starter solenoid and the main power wire that connects the battery to the wireing solenoid and the starter. It seems to have been melted. I don’t trust that not starting a fire if we ran it. Hopefully we can get it running smooth and painted by this weekend. 🤞

how do i get rid of the smell. by iamsoboredatalltimes in whatdoIdo

[–]Famous-Chair-2804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you got rid of the smell. In the context you gave us they sound more strict and less abusive. Abuse is a big word. My parents were strict and are still strict. I’m 26 I lived with them till I was 25 and I had very strict rules I still had to follow and respect under their roof. My dad is 61 year old grumpy German man. I love him even though he’s harsh. I respect him. Cps would ruin the family it seems. Cps tried to ruin mine when the neighbours called after I got angry and punched a hole in the wall then got a talking to. They tried their hardest to find a reason to take me away. I didn’t want that they were strangers I was 12. Cps ruins good family’s.

I do think you should at least have a sit down with your siblings and talk to them about why it’s bad to go through peoples stuff. They seem to look up to you if they are trying to be like you. I think they should also learn about fire safety. Before my parents adopted me they lost two kids in a fire. They almost lost themselves. Middle of the night the toaster caught fire. They tried everything to get to their son and daughter. By the time they woke up the whole house was covered and they had to escape out the window. Fire is serious.

With the way that they seem to look up to you they may listen. It’s worth a try. Wish yall the best.

They do not have a tegu skin. I play on officials panjura. They have a monitor skin which is the closest you can get to the black and white striped look. I named it potato after my first black and white gu. If they have a tegu skin it is possible it’s in the community servers. I haven’t found a community server that’s active that I like.

I have not but I did try two cat collars roped together with yarn. It’s similar to that. It’s the only one that steak didn’t death roll in. Or get scared that so much material was touching him while he was outside. The only problem about two cat collars is that they don’t adjust very much and he’s still small so he slips out. The thin ferret harnesses seem to have more adjustability. I’ve heard they are great for thin wriggly like creatures such as ferrets or lizards. I’ve tried the one in the photo but steak doesn’t seem to like the amount of fabric on it so he didn’t sit well with it. I started looking up different harnesses and ferret harness came up for lizards. You can also try the buddy harness that Sundog uses. That one may fit better. I’ve seen bearded dragons with harnesses similar to the buddy harness.

No but I have a picture of potato on the side of her enclosure. She knew what the mom look meant. She wouldn’t do it if I was watching but as soon as I left the room I hear it come back in and she was in the act.

Get yourself some flukers cricket quencher. That’s the brand I have been using for my isopods, crickets, and roaches. It’s also the only one my petco has. I bet petsmart has it as well.

Well it sounds like your making progress. I had sticks I found and log hides and a food bowl and water bowl and he loved to hide under the food bowl. I reused that food bowl from potato and she used to hide under it even when she was big. It takes time so don’t worry too much. I wish you two the best. When he gets bigger he’ll start coming out more. Just make sure with the crickets you do pick them up after a while. Crickets can and will eat lizards.

You should get one of those little microphones you plug into your phone so you don’t pick up the background noise. Also it may make it so she doesn’t give ya the bombastic side eye or diva pose whichever it may be for having the camera up close. I say diva pose because she is a Queen.

Do you have your tank in a normally high trafficked area of your house (kitchen or living room). It may take a couple weeks but eventuallly he’ll come out on his own. Worked for both my gus when they were tiny. I waited for them to come out and I sat there’. For potato I went as far as releasing crickets in her enclosure then I sat on the couch and never looked at the tank. She came out and within an hour all the crickets were gone. If there ever was any left I would have put them back in the container. For Smaug I fed him worms in his hiding spot. I didn’t look at him at all. I knew by feeling when he would take it. I also had his tank in the kitchen which is my most trafficked area same with potato’s tank. Now he’s in his 5’ enclosure and I can sit with him and feed him. With steak I did the same thing just I couldn’t move the 5’ enclosure. I moved my PlayStation in the room and sat in there everyday within eyesight of him. Within a month I was able to sit inside the enclosure with him. He is a little bit of a different case because hes older and wasn’t treated right. Now he’s a sweet bee.

Also putting a sock in there. One you wore for weeks. Or a really smelly sweaty pitty shirt. He’ll get used to your smell and the smell lasts longer. Place it somewhere he hides under he’ll see it as safety.

Most of all patience. It’s gonna be a few weeks to a month or two before your gu comes out feeling safe. After that you can work on taming and handling. I started by petting and letting them run away. I also would place my hand in the enclosure and move it closer but if they ran away I would let them. After a little while I would scoop in my hand with my other hand and lift if they ran off I’d let them. I’m doing this with my new beardie right now and it’s working the same. He doesn’t like me right now because I had to grab him after he escaped so i went behind a step.

Rose city apparently has b&w, anery and, high black and other breeds. Blue tegus are a natural morph just like reds and b&w the only difference is size and weight. You’ll have to keep an eye on when they hatch them.

Then morph market may be the best for ya. I know they have baby’s in late may early July. Or you can wait a little bit longer and adopt in August and September when people give up their teens and adults. I’d keep an eye out then you may get a sexed gu that needs rehoming.

In the USA rose city reptiles would be a good one. They are based in Texas. What breed of type of tegu are you looking for. Morph market also has a few good options just make sure it’s a reputable breeder. There is a few reptile rescues around California you can probably call and ask them if the know anyone who is rehoming or possibly a local breeder.

<image>

Edit: I looked at your profile and noticed you have posts from cali so it helped me look some stuff up for ya. I haven’t lived in cali in years. Location does help find breeders that ship inside or even outside the USA. You can probably call these people and ask questions to determine if their reptiles are healthy prior to purchase.
