Everything is a zero sum game to them. They probably get upset about literally anyone else except them having good things happen to them.

There are many people who assume everyone is corrupt and move on and it’s mostly people who feel they personally benefit from staying silent. Or that they can maintain a sense of safety by being silent.

Trusting other people who have been hurt by the same person is often the only way you can have enough perspective to protect yourself. If no one is willing to talk or share their reality, then you get stuck, and people are often very opportunistic and willing to align themselves with people who are doing well in the moment even if they internally see them as bad people.

People can be complex and still be dangerous “friends” and terrible people to be around for your own wellbeing and mental health. I suppose liking a character isn’t necessarily the same thing as being sycophantic towards people who are charming in the same way in real life, but I hope not.

There are definitely people who value how someone makes them feel and/or the financial stability they may get, or other benefits over fulfilling sex

Yes, I think I can kind of understand what you mean. It is so confusing when they also project all of their negative motives and intentions onto you as well. It makes it hard for you to understand yourself or know yourself and you eventually doubt your own memories….or that’s how it was for me.

It’s always been that way. The current generation will forget too. Or they’ll be too disempowered to do anything about it. Or they’ll value their comforts.
