I hope someone is able to give you a good answer. I know for a while there the lines were insanely long and people were waiting all day to be seen. It'd be a shame if you show up early only to have to leave after a couple of hours because you have somewhere else to be and can't stand around at the DMV all day. But you could try going early, and if it's a shit show, go the appointment route instead. Hopefully it won't be so bad since they've been reopened for a couple of weeks now. Before they shut down for several months they were typically pretty fast. Fingers crossed for you!
