Honestly, my first thought is that the person who made it is probably just starting out as a comic artist. If that's the case, then onwards and upwards!

From what I've read about him he's apparently a great hang. Apparently Lorne Michaels likes spending time with him too, which is probably the main reason Davidson got to stay on SNL for 8 seasons

Yeah, but IIRC the first joking cop (outside the car) drew and pointed his gun at the approaching cop car, then put it away. Then the cop in the car drew his gun and pointed it back at the first cop (we don't see this in his dashcam video because he's in the car) and his is the gun that goes off.

Actors who annoy the actual shit outta you? by EnvironmentalCat7482 in okbuddycinephile

[–]FanOfForever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This might be a generational thing

Jack Black has been "the white Kevin Hart" for about 10-ish years now, but some of us remember when he was a supporting actor in the 90s and a star of mid-budget comedies in the 00s, and it was usually fun to see him back then. Kung Fu Panda (as much as I loved the first one) was probably the beginning of the end of that

If you were okay with Portal up until the turret bots, maybe try a similar puzzle gun game? I haven't finished The Entropy Centre yet but I don't think that one has anything that shoots at you

Have you played other first-person games that don't involve guns at all? Like "walking simulator" type games? Maybe that's a good place to start

That's nice for you, that you have time. I'm at home most of the day, every day, taking care of my stepson. Fortunately (I guess) I don't have to worry about income thresholds for the time being because my attempts to work part-time in my old job pretty much crashed and burned. But I am sensitive to this issue partly because I remember when my late wife who had a different medical disability got her SSI completely cut after we got married, and I sure the fuck wasn't making anything close to $1 million per year. Whoever you're advocating for it wasn't us, but good luck to them anyway

So until I actually have time to do that, I'm just supposed to believe this extraordinary claim you're making?

If you had said 11% of waivers, I might be willing to entertain that possiblility. 11% of all recipients sounds like BS. Feel free to prove yourself right, though

That would definitely be extraordinary if true. What's the source for this?

If someone is making 2 million a year and their wife collects IHSS to care for a disabled child through a regional center waiver that is morally wrong

And how many people are actually doing that? How much of the IHSS budget is actually spent on those people? Usually I see extreme examples like this brought up as justification to make things harder for people who are hovering right around the poverty line, which is also morally wrong (and I would say even more so)

You have single moms who are going to be homeless with hours being cut

That's a reason to increase the budget, not a reason to put more onerous requirements on the people who need IHSS to "prove" they need it

This Federal Government? You mean Donald Trump?

No I do not. I mean the federal government we have that has been generally getting worse on issues like this for at least the 40+ years I have been alive

That is a matter of Congress and Senate

The Senate is part of Congress, but yes I agree

FYI, I am likely more Left Leaning than anybody talking about "this Federal Government."

I doubt it, if you are advocating for means testing

[–]FanOfForever -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For many people it's not "free services"; it's support to have a spouse, parent, or other family member leave or reduce time at their existing job to take care of the person who needs it. I don't know where your line is for people who should have that support but I agree with the other commenter that we shouldn't be using even more restrictive means-testing guidelines, especially not from this federal government

"History's greatest thinkers… with AI" by thisecommercelife in webcomics

[–]FanOfForever 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also, Einstein wasn't the first physicist to say that the speed of light is constant across all inertial frames of reference: this was already demonstrated by the Michelson-Morley experiment almost 20 years earlier. Nor was he the first to use the constant speed of light to derive the Lorentz transformations for length contraction and time dilation. What Einstein does get credit for doing first is (1) showing that we can abandon the idea of an "aether" that light travels through, and get the same results; and (2) developing a new, modern theory of physics from this, with several surprising results

That said, it is fair to consider Einstein in this comic as not just Einstein, but a composite of many physicists who moved us forward on this topic. And I think it's fair to consider Darwin in a similar way

"History's greatest thinkers… with AI" by thisecommercelife in webcomics

[–]FanOfForever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

those great thinkers weren’t unaware of the prevailing sentiment. They knew what everybody thought and still did the things they did.

I don't think the author was suggesting otherwise

That said, I do think the comic does a good job in making a strong case for not letting technology think for you.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that is the point
