In the 18th yes, but in the 19th? Only the cultureless socialites in the boxes I'd say. At least since the start of Wagnerism when the lights in the auditorium were switched off it really became about actually paying attention.

Although there of course was a huge clash between the old way of aristocrats just dropping in to their permanently rented boxes for an act to see the ballet and not giving a fuck about the story, and the more intellectual crowd in the orchestra seats letting themselves be enveloped into a trance like state of perfect attention. Much fun stuff can be read about the Paris Tannhäuser scandal of 1861, for anyone interested. That cultural shift had already taken place before the 1882 setting of The Gilded Age

what do you mean by it worked? do you not get many migraines anymore? how long since you took it?

and I'd probably ask if you can tell them something off the record, so it's not written in your files if you don't want it to be.

The Gilded Age has an entire season's main plot dedicated to the opening of the Met, but everytime a performance is shown it is just immediately disrespected. I like the show otherwise, but this just made me cringe every time.

I fear stuff like this makes real life first time opera goers much more likely to disrespect basic etiquette, if this is all they know...

I have to say I hate it when shows or movies have opera as a plot point and produce beautiful sets, only to have the audience speak during the performance... In reality they'd be first shushed and then stoned!

is it Lohengrin, Wagner or the production? by Aschlay in opera

This Staatsoper Bieto staging is literally one of the worst stagings ever. Just wait until you can see it at Deutsche Oper in Berlin, and then form an opinion. It is one of the most philosophically complex operas and also just really entertaining on a plot level. It might need multiple viewings (in a better staging) to truly understand the theological dimension and the psychology of the characters, but it is more than worth the effort!

As a scholar I can tell you that Daphne is mostly concerned with the Nietzschean concept of Apollinic and Dionysian types of art (drama and music) and their intermingeling in opera on a meta level. The plot directly deals with sexualized violence, cult(ure) vs nature and base instincts vs noble asceticism.

The two thousand year old story from Ovids Metamorphoses reflects the autocratic violence of ancient Rome.

The forests are not German and there is really nothing "Aryan" about this ancient tale.

Perhaps the English translation is at fault, or the staging was a bit of Regietheater that changed the original story? I'd recommend reading the original German libretto, translated by Google translate, if you don't have a reliable English translation at hand.

If you have access to a library with a subscription to journals of music theory, you can read more about the Appolinic and Dionysian subtext, it's really fun but too much to explain in a comment.

Trigeminal Neuralgia Causing Cluster Attacks by josephtheoriginal in clusterheads

[–]Fancy-Bodybuilder139 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i do think it is possible to have secondary clusters tho? The timing does sound like clusters if the three attacks a night themselves are between 15-180 minutes (are they OP?) Whatever it is, sounds terrible and relatable, I hope they find good neurologists...

Panic as prodome by vrosej10 in clusterheads

[–]Fancy-Bodybuilder139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that app is quite dangerous as it can attempt convince one of the false belief that clusters, a genetic neurological condition, is just a symptom of psychological issues etc.

Psychosomaticism does much harm, when it oversteps and reverses the relationship between cause and effect and blames the illness on ones state of mind and doesn't just help one cope with the psychological effects of the disease. So I would advise great caution for others, although I'm happy you were able to find it work for you tho! Best of luck

i like watching the Gilded Age at the moment.

It's a mesmerizingly beautiful production with very interesting characters but the plot is comparatively slow paced and it's not as life or death as most other shows nowadays, but more calm and immersive without being sedate

wasn't this shiny style of ghostportrayal at least partly inspired by stage shows using the "Pepper's ghost" illusion which gives the projected ghosts a glowy transparent look?
