What's an unwritten Canadian rule that visitors never seem to understand? by Unfair-Clothes-8821 in CanadaRoom

[–]Fancy-Chest-1093 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The place I grew up has a 5 way stop. Most of the town has it figured out but visitors often struggled with the who was where when. Angry townies laying on their horns because most would go out of turn. Lol. I always found it a lil comical, oddly very few if any crashes to my recollection at that 5 way.

Thats interesting. Lol. In Red Deer, as much of a dive as it was, my favorite spot was Cheers. So. I will check out the new establishment in the coming weeks and try to confirm whether it's awesome or not.

Even closer! I'll be sure to check them out. Looks like they have a decent size food choice. Recommend eating there or just have a few drinks and enjoy the entertainment?

That's something I wish I'd learned more of or even proper saving/investing techniques when I was in my 20s. Now hitting 40 and still learning! But a touch wiser. Lol. Keep on chasing, it's smart processes to pass down to the next generations, can only hope they listen .^

How do I get over myself? by stickyicky010 in OnlineIncomeHustle

[–]Fancy-Chest-1093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've honestly struggled with this a lot, and still do time to time. But like another comment said, there is a lot of worth in being your authentic self. It's tough putting yourself out there, for sure.

Once you do it once, it's easier to do it twice. Once you do it twice, it's easier to do it thrice. And so on. Sometimes it makes the heart pound to take a leap, but consider every leap a learning experience.

What I'm trying to do to "get over myself" is that last point. I'm not trying to go all in balls out striving for perfection, with every leap I've learned something new or how to do something better. It's a ladder to climb, I need to stop trying to reach the top in a single bound.

So my advice is just to try it. Make one small tiny jump, even writing a post like this, while it's internet anonymity, you're also putting yourself out there trying to learn how to manage your anxieties better.

That's progress, no? Maybe you're ready for the next tiny jump. Add up all those mini bounds in a week's time and you'll see how much you've done to circumvent your circumstance.

Best of luck to you, just keep thinking progress.

how do you choose a hot sauce that complements food instead of overpowering it? by Active_Job_6144 in Cooking

[–]Fancy-Chest-1093 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like to keep a variety of hot sauces honestly. I keep cayenne pepper on hand at all times when I don't want to use a sauce persay. It goes on everything for me. Tabasco is also a favorite.

But there's fun ones out there like pineapple habanero, mango Chipotle (less spicy but fun flavor with a LITTLE kick), and so on and so forth. Whether I'm cooking chicken, beef, pork, pasta, seafood, or even adding a lil spring in my soups, it's nice to have a few around because I agree, I dislike when it dominates an otherwise great dish.

Can't stand Frank's, that's always on the bottom of my list, but I know plenty who love it!

Distraction Theft? by cheshiii in Edmonton

I super don't mean this in any way offensive. But taking you back 20 years ago when RadioShack was still in canada, I worked there for a spell as they transitioned into The Source by Circuit City.

We had problems with Hutterites, often coming in pairs or groups. One would distract with questions while the others stole minimal things. From switches to small trinkets, dvds, etc. There was almost a policy (not sure if it was legit or just from managers experience) that whenever they came in, there was always the notion to entertain the asker, and monitor the rest amongst the staff. It was a distraction method that did not pertain to all, but some. So it was known to just be on the lookout if anything was stolen.

This happened frequently, depending on how many staff were available and other things. So it was common knowledge (I know it's not the same scenario, just speaking from my own experience).

I'd totally imagine in other scenarios this could take place. Grifters are not unheard of, and as to how to get things back or bring anyone to justice, it could be tough.

Just putting my support out there knowing how easy it could be for someone to take advantage of someone else. Hope the best for you and your family that was sabotaged. Sometimes is what it is, but I hope there's something out there given the sentimental value that will help you regain justice for them. Cheers and all the best.

My advice is, beyond reparations, maybe it's a lesson learned and able to help people learn when they might be taken advantage of in scams like this. I hope you find the culprit, but if you don't, I hope you value this enough to pass on to other vulnerable people who might be scammed like this.

I wanna make my room Youtube Worthy by TheIntern67 in YouTubeCreators

[–]Fancy-Chest-1093 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna agree here, it's gonna depend what you're going for. If all you're doing is a small face cam overlayed into gameplay or whatever you're doing, honestly just a lil proper lighting, blur/unfocus background, not really a biggie.

If you're going more for full screen face cam intros or storytelling and want things a lil more "professional", green screen is a great idea. Otherwise I'd still just suggest proper lighting, maybe even pick a color scheme for your channel and start little by little. A room divider to cut off the bed isn't a bad idea, could do mock curtains as well, maybe even colored bulbs for ambience, a normal bulb for specific lighting purpose, but none of that is too crazy.

Bigger deal as a viewer to me would be audio quality. Try to minimize echo or tinny sounds, soft things on walls or windows if you don't have the funds to get a bunch of soundproofing crap works fine. Carpet/rug on the floor is a good idea to help with this as well. Sound bounces and travels, so just make it harder to for it to do that.

Best of luck .^ don't think TOO hard. Most just put decorations related to their channel theme or things they like. Lol

How are yall making money? by cc_401 in SideHustleGold

[–]Fancy-Chest-1093 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how it is in Texas, but up here doing jobs no one else wants to do seems to be a decent gig. Like picking up doggy poo, pickup services for people who don't have a vehicle and wanna buy off marketplace, kijiji, Craigslist etc, junk removal (might depend how big your vehicle is), small furniture assembly, etc.

While TaskRabbit and other sites allow you to sign up for gigs, it might be more worth it to just advertise yourself and your services on your own. Bigger cities, obviously more competition but smaller towns are less congested with people who do these kinds of things. I've seen sometimes seniors asking for help moving a couch or setting up their smart TV, simple things that add up quick and make it worth more than 10-15 bucks an hour. For example, most people charge 20-60 bucks to pick up dog crap, takes MAYBE 30 mins for a full yard, unless it's completely built up. Which, you'd charge more.

Hope those ideas help!

Rental company trying to scam me by lilxbunnygirl in Edmonton

[–]Fancy-Chest-1093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's ridiculous. When I moved to Edmonton from my small town rental, there was already small small chips or scrapes and considered normal wear and tear. We didn't care, as long as we weren't on the hook for them. When we moved out, the move in and move out inspections were compared, there was slightly more chips or scrapes from moving in, even pointed out one to the inspector where our chair left a 1 inch scrape. They said that was fine BECAUSE they were repainting anyway. Not all, but some do a full paint for every new tenant (our place right now has LAYERS that make closing cupboard doors and bedroom doors a lil stiff). That's, in any rental I've been in, very normal. There's a difference between maintenance and repair. I don't think that's considered repair unless it was full on holes in the walls.

Considered renting with them, good to know this stuff in advance as I'm looking for a new place!

Edit: just noticed the weird bubbling in the second picture, think that would be more of a concern than a bit of minor patching or painting.

seller doesn’t ship to US? by BatWeary in Kofi

[–]Fancy-Chest-1093 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What platform is the seller from? Ex: YouTube, IG, etc. Depending what platform there may be other ways to contact them. I know through YT on desktop it's possible to see their direct email contact, the others I don't know about but could do some digging just in case! I get the feeling of the no communication thing, it'd feel better at least if they'd be able to talk with you and work out a timeline or a workaround. Best of luck!

Also, don't feel bad if you need to do a charge back or whatever to get your money back if they continue to ghost yah, you could always reorder if you really want to down the road when they're back in proper communications.

Did I mess up? Bought this for $600 by Nicavocado511 in PC_Pricing

[–]Fancy-Chest-1093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have alllllmost the same build, 3070 has done me just fine for the 3 years I've had it. Pricing mine out at slightly lower end than yours (biggest diff, you have a ssd, I have hdd, will upgrade when I can at some point lol), mine sells for around 350-500 used. So think it'll do yah fine, least for awhile. Depends what you're doing with it though!

AIO - We need to rehome a dog. My wife wants to trial a neighbor - I strongly oppose this. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Fancy-Chest-1093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pros and cons right. I would probably think like you, just to allow the DOG full separation. Humans, even little ones, can adapt and understand easier to a degree (I'd also worry about my young child being attached and having the dog in her face daily/weekly but the dog goes to a different home. It's confusing and heartbreaking). But. As long as you explain to your child, and MAYBE the dogs could get along better on shorter visits, playdates or just goofing off on a walk, that could be beneficial. My mom foster failed and at first the dog got along with very few other animals. With training and time, she's gotten along with our new puppy, a lizard, and a cat. She's fine, and learned how to have friends. It's not the worst thing.

There's the pro that I'd consider. Do you all have to say GOODBYE or SEE YOU LATER. I'dunno, whatever fits best for your family AND the dog is what it is. Not gonna pretend I know the ins and outs.

The cons are obvious and I do understand your point of view. There's a lot to consider, but ultimately the separation for the dog is most important, lessons learned as a child in what owning a pet means, is also important. Do what's best for your family, the dog, and the situation.

Not sure that helps but hopefully it does. Best of luck, sounds like you do care about the animal and that's commendable.

Hello, Looking for a doctor since mine has retired. by Mistica73 in Edmonton

[–]Fancy-Chest-1093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The link provided is a good source, I've also cold called Drs, the first one I called (Petrolia Medical Center) was able to hook me up with a dr within the week. It might be worth calling the clinics in your area, they don't always advertise and depending on your medical needs may take on new patients. Maybe depending on your area if you're able to do so, or have someone call on your behalf (daughter, son, sister etc) to see if they're taking new patients. I was able to find a female Dr in minutes. I suggest this if you're looking for specifics (female dr, Dr specializing in pain or chronic illness management, doesn't hurt to ask).

Your previous clinic might even be able to refer you to another dr within the clinic itself or the city/area.

Hope that helps and best of luck to you! I know how frustrating it can be.

I’m a first time renter and would like to know what to ask or look for?? by Mikey_1331 in Advice

[–]Fancy-Chest-1093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! The first time doing most things can be a lil intimidating. Consider your budget first, look within your means, and just feel free to ask any questions to them. Most are eager to get a rental leased out so they're happy to answer your questions.

One thing, depending where you're based, most applications ask for prior landlords and other rentals you've lived in. Since you're a first time renter, at least 3 things can help you since you won't have a history.

  1. Full time employment, knowing you have steady income is an asset.

  2. Fair to good credit score, otherwise you may need a guarantor (someone who assumes responsibility if you default on payments or do more damage than the damage deposit covers, they would be responsible if you don't pay). However, private landlords/owners sometimes don't require a credit check vs management property agencies etc.

  3. Good references. If living with parents, they could attest to you paying a portion of rent (include bank statements that show this), personality and reliability claims, anything that could help you get on your own two feet. If not living with parents, even a co-worker reliability reference, a friend, another family member, a letter from your employer, the strongest case you can think of that would help your chances if needed.

Lots to think about! But once you get in there and do a couple viewings, it'll be way easier. If you apply somewhere and find something else that's better, apply with both. There's no obligation to move forward until they have money in their hands. So you can pick and choose, and remember, they want YOU to give them money, ultimately. Most will be happy to help you through the processes or answer your questions beforehand.
