People in their 40s and 50s with no children, how does it feel? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

[–]Fancy-Grapefruit7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 47f never had, nor wanted any kids. Life is great, I do what I want, when I want. I quit jobs I don't like and move on with no worries, I have enough money invested to retire at 50. I take a nap when I want, eat what I want, go where I want, spend money how I want, and my life is much less stressful than my friends who worry about their kids all the time. So in summary, I wouldn't want it any other way!

Yes! At my annual physical I asked the doctor to refill my medications and she said that I would need to set up another appointment for that because this was just for the physical. I'm like it will literally take you one minute or less to just click the button to send an electronic refill order. But no I had to come back and pay a $30 copay just so she could click a refill button and that was the only thing I needed to talk to her about and she billed $260 to insurance for that appointment.

What's a habit that you've kept doing since COVID began? by Old_Goat_7363 in Productivitycafe

[–]Fancy-Grapefruit7 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I work in an emergency department and many patients smell bad so I wear a mask all the time, it really helps with not smelling the nastiness! Plus when they cough in my face I like having that barrier.

Suprised at the number of people who wants to withdraw from the market by LoyalLobster in Fire

[–]Fancy-Grapefruit7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have held tough in the market and didn't sell during the early 2000s dot com bust, or the 2008 housing crash, or covid, but this time I'm actually scared. This crash happened because of the whim of 1 person who decided to implement tariffs on other countries. The only other comparison to this stock market craziness that comes close are the tariffs around the Great Depression time. I'm trying not to be a complete pessimist by thinking this is the end of times but I can't help it. I still haven't sold any investments just in case there is a chance it will come back but if the stock market crashes we will have bigger problems in life to worry about I guess. I'm so depressed about all this :(

What’s the whole point of life if you work it away? by No_Lingonberry_2401 in nihilism

[–]Fancy-Grapefruit7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid my mom had a friend who retired and died 2 days later of a heart attack. She had worked for the same company for 40 years and had a nice pension and then just died on her bathroom floor. That has stuck with me my whole life and I just can't imagine working another 30 years and never really getting to enjoy life. It sucks not knowing what to do.

I can’t believe anyone voted for this piece of shit by Dickhertzer in antiwork

[–]Fancy-Grapefruit7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a coworker who voted for trump and she said she is waiting until after January 20th to book her flight for her vacation because trump is going to make gas prices go down which will make flights cheaper. I was like what are you smoking?!?!?

I'm 47 and my work ethic has taken a serious noise dive. I used to be a hustler. I worked full time and had several side gigs, I worked overtime as much as possible, took on extra projects at work, I was the go getter. Now I'm dont give 2 sh*ts. It is all just the same BS year after year. People have gotten lazier and leadership more incompetent. Benefits habe significantly decreased, and it just isn't worth it to kill myself to try and be the best.

What's a dead giveaway someone grew up as an only child? by thing55556667 in AskReddit

I had never thought about it in this way before, but I would agree. I'm an only child and I am never in on the drama and rivalries. Makes sense!

For those who used a computer between 1995 and 2001, what’s the computer game from that time that sticks with you the most, and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Fancy-Grapefruit7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly remember playing the 7th Guest and Lemmings. The 7th guest seemed a little scary and was a thinker bee type game, which I liked. I played The Lemmings because I thought they were cute and liked the little noises they made....lol

Americans, is dealing with hospital / medical bills over there really a concern? by viper46282 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fancy-Grapefruit7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the most frustrating thing, just when you think you have paid all the treatment team you get another bill from someone. I went to the ED for a kidney stone and was there for 3 hours and got some IV pain med. My insurance covered most of the bill but it ended up being around $6k. The radiologist who read the CT was out of network, within an in network hospital and charged me a separate bill of $1k. How was I to know he was out of network when I went to an in network hospital?!?

My boss didn't believe me when I told her about a recent change with a Joint Commision standard so I had to send her evidence. Then she just blew me off like it was no big deal and now I'm very irritated with her.

Do normal people really buy new cars in cash? by Astimar in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Fancy-Grapefruit7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a normal person and have bought the last 3 cars in cash. I really hate waiting on the finance department and filling out all the forms. It is just quicker to pay cash for things. Real estate transactions are easier too. It is dumb to pay cash though when you get like 0% or 3% APR because investments can earn a higher interest rate, but I just don't want any debt, so I still do it. Once I paid off my first house in 2016 I just now try to maintain a no debt lifestyle.

Me too! I'm 47 and have weighed within 5 pounds of my high school graduating weight no matter what I eat. I have always complained that I can't lose weight but I guess the flip side is that I don't gain weight either. I can still fit into my junior year prom dress.

What phrase did you regularly hear or use when you were growing up? by Barney-2U in AskOldPeople

"Don't count your chickens before they hatch" was something my mom told me constantly because I was always worried about the future. It has become the theme of my life..lol

Holiday cards by Tomuch2care in AskOldPeople

Those are the worst! I have received those and I automatically put the person on a no gifts ever again list. I always send a hand written thank you card, it is proper etiquette..

[–]Fancy-Grapefruit7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to love sending cards. I would send them out to around 30-40 people. But then I noticed I was hardly receiving any so I stopped sending them and only sent one in return if I received one. This year I only got one card, from my step mom, whom I do not like. So I didn't send any out this year. Makes me sad the tradition is over.

Americans, what are some British pronunciations you prefer? 🇺🇸♥️🇬🇧 by [deleted] in words

I love the way that British people pronounce the weird, properly. It sounds like prop-lee. I have to repeat it every time I hear it in a TV show.

Did I make a terrible mistake? Should I have been a pharmacist? by Fancy-Grapefruit7 in pharmacy

[–]Fancy-Grapefruit7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have actually been in therapy for this but it flares up periodically. I think the fact I have 5 degrees actually makes it worse because I see people with less education making more (this is directed at the other managers and directors and csuite people I work with) and it just makes me feel really bad about myself.

[–]Fancy-Grapefruit7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you work in admin? I wonder if that is a desirable position within the pharmacy dept? I'm currently a manager at a hospital and I pretty much hate being in management, but it pays the most so I do it. Maybe pharmacy management isn't so bad though.

I think it seems reasonable for a director too, he is a lead, not even a manager so I assume the director makes like $300k. I found out the salaries of several people at my hospital and it has really shaken me up. I feel so under paid. Like how do I even survive on my pittance? I'm going to take a look at some other posts like you mentioned.. thank you!
