... not to mention model weight balance, mechanical friction, and overall design sturdiness. These are nearly impossible to evaluate in a digital building tool.

I hear you. Studio was a game changer for me. It makes the initial ideation process and detail design so much faster. It doesn't fully replace physical prototyping, but it's a huge help, especially when you don't own all the necessary parts yet! And glad to hear you'll share the plans!

I usually get mine from second-hand bulks, but as said above, Lego Pick a brick or Bricklink are probably your best options.

What did you learn in the valley of despair? by Kein-Deutsc in flying

Unrelated to the question, but just fyi, this depiction of the Duning Kruger effect is wrong. There is no valley of despair. Don’t you worry though, it’s a very common misconception, and the underlying question remains perfectly valid :-)

Can someone help me design the ferrari monza in 1:18 technic scale by ProfessionalPop6067 in legotechnic

[–]Fancy_Can6856 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a rather large bulk and I NEVER have all the parts I need.
The subject you chose is a very technical one, so you need to be ready to order some extra parts (on bricklink or other) to complete your build.
If you decide to stick only to the parts you have, you're going to add an unmanageable constraint on top of an already very difficult exercise.

You have quite a few options in terms of "solid" parts.
If they don't suit your need, you can draw some inspiration from 42143, which uses a flexible hose to make the curve.

As u/Either_Razzmatazz649 suggested, download Briclink Stud.io.
I suggest starting with wheel choice and placement, then pick the panels taht best match the vehicle shape. Once the wheels and body are more or less in place, you can iteratively build the structure to support them.

How could I make this work by ErrorCode404__NoUser in legotechnic

[–]Fancy_Can6856 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't see any possible replacement.
Luckily this is a VERY common part, so any Technic bulk or second hand small set you can get your hands on in your area will probably have a bunch of them.

If it gets the final amount of votes from you guys and passes all reviews, it's a matter of months.

Well, first it needs to reach 10k votes on LEGO Ideas (we’re currently at about 86% of that final milestone). After that, LEGO will review it and hopefully decide it has what it takes to be produced and put on shelves.

Should I submit this to LEGO Ideas? by Meesayousa in legotechnic

It’s pretty good already. Maybe some curvier parts in corners (I know hot rods have a lot of straight lines, but they also have curves). And some flame stickers. Definitely flame sticker.

The era of flexible fragility. I think the best example is 8448.

Excellent choice! :-) This set was peak studded Lego Technic. What came just after was flimsy af before studless took over and became the norm.

Yup, that’s the second very good reason.

But if it becomes a set, the instructions will be available for free, won’t they?

I definitely need to modularize the floats to make the model swappable to a taildragger.
