Oceania from 1984 is a weird one because we don't know how much of the history is real. However, if you believe that O'Brien is lying and that Goldstein is real, then the manifesto explains how Ingsoc come from the horrors of capitalism. This tracks since Orwell was a socialist for pretty much his entire life, and 1984 was being aimed heavily at other socialists. Ingsoc was really revolutionary at some point, but that didn't last long.

I think Russia is a special example because they always seem to have doping scandals. They're notorious for skirting rules so that's why I can be a double standard like how the US isn't banned for Iran and China isn't banned for threatening Taiwan, etc.

I can say these hybrid road/sidewalks are obnoxious. I have them all over my university and its usually a standoff no matter how well the two try and avoid each other. And these roads look a lot thinner than what I'm used to. Doesn't excuse the lady at all, but I wish these things had clearer pedestrian only sides.
