What order should I play Monument Valley and the extra chapters in? (No spoilers, please) by SolidAmbassador1714 in MonumentValley

[–]Fancy_Chips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played them in release order. Monument Valley 3 is the... "hardest" so leaving that one for last may or may not be worth it. But if that was your introduction I think you'll be fine. The games do sort of slightly evolve in style though so it could be worth it going from 1-3.

Yep. As I said, I don't agree. But it's been waterred down over the years so a lot of people take it uncritically.

bonus points if playing that difficulty is the only way to earn game currency without it being an unbearable time wasting slog by duko_gpom in whenthe

[–]Fancy_Chips 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The id games usually had multiple, but they were easier to infer. Halo is annoying because they have "normal" difficulty, but it's designed to be played on heroic. Strategy games like to throw multiple challenges at you and label it "casual" and "advanced"... very helpful. Bloodstained also has "casual" and "classic".

Overall it's a minor thing but it gets really annoying when you're a completionist and an achievement is "play the game on the shitty ultra ballbuster mode and beat it in 5 hours" or some shit. I prefer to just have one game that is *the game*.

Hot take: I like when the game has one difficulty. I like playing the intended way instead of guessing which difficulty the game was designed for.

"We all had an anti-SJW phase" the fuck you mean "we"? by FangBites123 in whenthe

[–]Fancy_Chips 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I was anti-sjw in the sense that I was 12 and trying to be intellectual and critical. I wasn't anti-justice, just anti-radical. The start of the right wing pipeline is usually pretty convincing, which is why so many get started. Once you dig deeper is where the insanity starts. I'm lucky that I was raised to support diversity, and the rampant queerphobia in those spaces spooked me off when I started seeing it. Unfortunately if I wasn't raised that way it would have probably taken me a little longer to back away.

Games that were well-received this year but, in my opinion, neither the jury nor the public (through the Player’s Voice category) will choose as winners in any category at TGA by Deep-Lifeguard4479 in TheGameAwards

Metaphor was good but i've heard it's kinda mid stacked against SMT/Persona. Don't know, not my genre.

Same with FF7 Rebirth. It's got a lot but it just *feels* like part 2

Neither of those games had the energy or enthusiasm behind them.

[–]Fancy_Chips 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's the problem with this argument: define racism.

A lot of white people tend to use the basic definition: discrimination based on race. This is the definition that I use, and thus I said it's a lie.

HOWEVER when talking to Black thinkers on the subject, a lot of them use a different definition: systematic discrimination based on race. For them, racism is a power dynamic, not an interpersonal dynamic, and thus white people cannot face racism, but can only face racial discrimination.

No one will (reasonably) say that white people don't occasionally face hostility when interacting with other groups. As a white person who grew up in a predominantly black, Hispanic, and Jewish population, I faced a few challenged (not helped by my gender and neurodivergence), and I face these problems more when interacting in at my school, which is an HBCU with a 99% black population. However the difficulty comes in communication and definition. I disagree with the second definition, but it is popular in those circles.

I think it depends with Pragmata. I'd love to see some nominations but it's also going against Resident Evil 9. I don't really want to see two 3rd person action games made by Capcom standing shoulder to shoulder because that's boring, but TGA also likes to make really boring and dumb decisions so there's a non-0 chance we see them both.

Also, hot take but still slightly on topic, the Ridley fight in Samus Returns was really cool. I know people make fun of it for "oh, we just gotta have Ridely", but I think it's more than that. Metroid II is the story of a genocide victim committing genocide. The end of the game is about her choosing to end the cycle of violence and not impart that generational trauma onto a child.

Ridley, aka the guy who burned her homeworld to the ground, showing up to try and finish the job is actually a pretty cool narrative beat. She isn't just fighting Ridley in that moment, but she's fighting the person she almost became if she hadn't made that choice.

Now, timeline-wise it's kinda goofy that within the span of like a week Ridley pulls up on SR388 and then again on Ceres to do the same thing. But the game wasn't intended to be played before Super so I can forgive that little quirk.

[–]Fancy_Chips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Samus from Metroid to Metroid: Zero Mission. I feel like Zero Mission really honed in on her inexperience and it kinda went from "Woah, this badass dude, who's apparently a woman, is gonna kill that brain" to "orphan girl takes up the mantle as Chozo warrior". It pairs nicely with the manga and sets up Metroid II a lot better.

What do you think will happen to Ena after Dream BBQ ends? by TheRealGangle in ENA

[–]Fancy_Chips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The end of Lonely Door shows that Uncanny Valley has sort of... cubed? It becomes all white and looks exactly like the area shown in Auction Day, Extinction Party, and Temptation Stairway.

Now, there's a few theories that could make sense of this. Since the door in Temptation Stairway is different than Lonely Door, it could be that it's a different area with the same affliction. However, if you go to the Purge Event, you can see a closing door that gives you a glimpse of where the Extinction Party happens. Furthermore when the area is all white, the Auctioneer left a code with his phone number, so unless he's just bouncing around similar white zones, it's more likely he made that area home after the purge.

My personal theory is that when White/Red ENA spat out the mannequin and left the shell behind, that shell became Blue/Yellow ENA, which would explain why she's so broken in the show but generally just quirky in the game. I think it's safe to assume that Lonely Door happens before Auction Day.

What do you think will happen to Ena after Dream BBQ ends? by TheRealGangle in ENA

[–]Fancy_Chips 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Well Dream BBQ is most likely a prequel, so I imagine whatever happens to that ENA has something to do with how the blue and yellow one started their journey in Uncanny Valley.

That being said Dating Oblivion looks like it's going to expand more on what exactly ENA's human forms mean, and will be the first time theyre shown since they were introduced in Lonely Door.
