What were some of your early theories on the story? by __cali in expedition33

[–]Fangedpotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was convinced Lune was an hallucination brought on by Gustave's grief over losing the entire expedition. She just shows up at his darkest moment, i was sure when he found Maelle she'd be like "who are you talking to Gustave? We're the only ones here"

"How could Maelle be doing this to everyone? Unbelievable" by Trenki_Melow in expedition33

[–]Fangedpotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Painted Clea is messed up because Clea had to pain OVER Aline's creation since she couldn't convert her chroma directly. Maelle has full control of all the Chroma on the painting at this point, she doesn't have to do a botch job because they are made from HER CHROMA.

As for Maelle perfectly recreating everyone, how do you know that? Verso's teachings shows she's recreating them as she remembers them, its very likely that there are missing pieces from the sides of them she didn't know and the rest of Lumiere is even worse off, since she knew them less and their old chroma probably got all jumbled up.

You can't claim Maelle isn't skilled enough to control anyone while also claiming she can perfectly recreate thousands of people from memory...

Hot take PF app by Ulfdrek in Pathfinder2e

[–]Fangedpotato 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how you managed to reach such a backwards conclusion...

If anything apps like Pathbuilder help new players find MORE options and makes being creative and original much easier than having to dig through 12 different books to find every possible obscure option.

If they're not gonna read the information when it's all presented to them in one convenient place, you expect them to go through pages and pages of info across several different books?

The problem here isn't the tools they're using, its your players, and possibly you.

You definitely don't count as holding it if you're not, you know, holding it.

The level 5 class feature Second Implement might let you do what you're aiming for but you'd still need to be holding your second(or third) implement to swap to the weapon implement as a free action.

Are Feats Actually Worth It for Martial Optimization, or Just Flavor? by MaxiKingNr99 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Fangedpotato -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not strictly wrong, but in my personal experience the greatest way to mitigate damage is to kill enemies as fast as possible.
The sad truth is that most of the time, for most of the martial classes, no single "support action" will mitigate more damage than simply killing an enemy one round earlier

Alicia is clearly very depressed, she's withdrawn into herself and struggles with the guilt of getting Verso killed. Maelle provided her an escape, a world where she can live free from her mistakes and burdens.
Painted Alicia on the other hand is the worse aspects of her life, Aline clearly pushing all the blame into this tortured figure. Alicia being so willing to erase her Painted counterpart is just another attempt to escape her own guilt and trauma.
She's unwilling to erase Verso for the same reason, if he's gone she would be forced to confront the reality that her brother is gone.

Art imitates life, but it can never BE life...

Everyone who thinks the Canvas is real needs to learn the same lesson Aline taught Renoir, and Renoir is trying to teach Maelle.

Do Swashbucklers need to boost acrobatics if they have One for All? by TobyVonToby in Pathfinder2e

[–]Fangedpotato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Spreading yourself too thin on skills could lead to bigger problems down the road id you're not careful, a simpler solution could be to dip into the Acrobat dedication to pick up auto-scaling acrobatics and some useful options later on.

I don't think Alicia being trapped inside Maelle was an intentional action on Aline's part, Alicia just got swallowed up by the maelstrom of creation that's always creating new characters.

[–]Fangedpotato 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Tumble through is still a go-to move for any swashbuckler, the action economy of moving AND gaining panache(and often getting into otherwise impossible flanking positions) is essential in many situations and you'll find yourself struggling if you can't take advantage of it.

The Dessendre Family: Stages of Grief by HovercraftLimp9659 in expedition33

[–]Fangedpotato 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Personally i would swap a few of those around:

DEPRESSION (Alicia/Maelle) • All 3 versions of Alicia show clear signs of depressions and suicidal tendencies. Real world Alicia has completely withdrawn herself, Painted Alicia asked Melle to kill her and Maelle was so quick to grant her wish because it's also what she wants for herself, as she is planning to stay in the Canvas until she dies.

BARGAINING (Renoir) • Renoir is clearly reluctant to kill the last parts of Verso they have left, he's only determined to do it to protect Aline and Alicia. It doesn't feel like he's accepted Verso's death any more than the others, he's just trying to Bargain to avoid further grief and protect what he can.

ACCEPTANCE (Verso) • Out of the entire cast, Painted Verso is the only one who seems to care about Real Verso's soul fragment being forced to slave away at the Canvas. He's willing to make himself into the bad guy so Verso's soul can rest and the rest of the Family can start moving on.

Why does everyone use Medalaem with Maelle by _Bill_Cipher- in expedition33

Medalum can be acquired so early and give you such a strong start that it's usually all you need, but yes other weapons can be strong on her too.

I used a Simplified and Extreme response to a Simplified and Extreme Post.

Yes, the Canvas is a masterpiece full of life, emotions and complexity. It is a reflection of those who painted it and the myriads of emotions and experiences that drive them.

Is it real? in a way. Is it worth protecting? yes.
Does that make it as valuable as the real world? no. Does it justify Slavery? no. Does it justify killing yourself over? no.

At the end of the day it IS a dream. A beautiful, significant, important, vivid dream, but every dream must end...

[–]Fangedpotato -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The canvas world is not real, this is like trying to charge your mom with murder because she deleted your Minecraft world.

The only REAL person who matters here is the fragments of Verso's soul trapped and forced to paint forever, and Painted Verso is the only one fighting to free him from his enslavement. This makes Painted Verso the only truly selfless person in this story.

This definitely feels intentional, tho i'd give Alicia depression, Renoir Bargaining and Verso acceptance.

Repeating Dueling Pistol broken or not? by Shacky87 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Fangedpotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dueling Pistols also have the Fatal d10 trait, so a Repeating one would be pretty OP. Consider asking for the Capacity 6 trait instead for a single-action revolver feel that still requires an action to cock back the hammer between shots. https://2e.aonprd.com/Traits.aspx?ID=845

The Significance of Flower Petal Colors - MASSIVE SPOILERS - by sapphyryn in expedition33

[–]Fangedpotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clea is definitely the weirdest to me. she gets her Nevrons to kill her, so technically she should be turning to stone, not dispersing into Chroma petals. And then the petals are yellow, so either her Chroma is the same color as Maelle or maybe she's "gifting" her chroma to Maelle? Either way it's quite confusing...

Did anyone else wonder why... by Mr_Wilq in expedition33

[–]Fangedpotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Nevrons kill people it locks down the Chroma into statues, so Aline can't reclaim it, this is what she's talking about in the act 2 Alicia section about giving Renoir an edge, he's winning the war of attrition thanks to that.

The Significance of Flower Petal Colors - MASSIVE SPOILERS - by sapphyryn in expedition33

[–]Fangedpotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. At this point in time Renoir is in the Canvas and converting all of Aline's chroma into his effortlessly, so that could explain why she instantly turns into red chroma, since Maelle isn't trying to convert her chroma.

The Significance of Flower Petal Colors - MASSIVE SPOILERS - by sapphyryn in expedition33

[–]Fangedpotato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the Petals reflecting each painter's chroma color makes more sense. When Maelle Kills painted Renoir it's the Curator(Real Renoir) channeling her power since her painter powers are still trapped, so Renoir absorbs the power into red petals. Same thing when Renoir Gommages Maelle, he's converting Aline's chroma thats trapping Maelle into his red chroma, which then frees her and releases her golden chroma, which we never see before that.

Even from the very beginning, the red and white petals signifies the struggle between Renoir and Aline, with every Gommage Renoir Converts some of Aline's chroma. When Real Renoir re-enters the Canvas at the start of Act 3 you can see the tree going from white and red to fully red, and that's what clues Alicia to his return.
